Phoenix Roar Back Into Dunedin
Thursday, 29 September 2011

Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert is delighted Dunedin has been given the green light to stage the week 10 regional round Hyundai A-League game against champions Brisbane Roar on Wednesday December 14 at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Dunedin getting this game against competition from Australian venues is a reward for the incredible support we received on our first visit to the city earlier this year, Herbert said.

It was humbling to have 15,000 fans turning out to support us and we are looking forward to playing in such a great atmosphere again, hopefully with a reversal of the August result.

The game is another coup for the Stadium and the fans according to David Davies, CEO of Forsyth Barr Stadium.

We welcome back the Phoenix, the Roar, and especially the fans to Dunedin for what we expect to be a very competitive game. I know the city will again get behind these teams and create another evening of noise, colour and football fever, Davies said.

Approximately 15,000 fans attended the pre-season football match in August and added passion and enthusiasm to really bring the Stadium and the game alive. Were looking to build on that success and cement Forsyth Barr Stadiums position as a premier sports and entertainment venue.

yeah, that will be a bit of a challenge for people to travel from other southern areas too- Chch, Invercargill, central etc, all of whom supported the earlier game.

That said- fantastic for those of us down here, and it is up to us to put in the effort to get people along to make it another success.

Very excited!

Last exams at Otago are on the 12th.  Hopefully this gives some people the incentive to stay around for a bit.

Good move by the Nix.
The Roar will be coming from about 30 degrees to about 20.

I'll organise a bus from timaru to come down. it would be nice to see ivercargill, oamaru and other town's supporters could try and get as many people to the game.

I dont mind Dunedin but what's with playing a game at Eden Park? FFS Auckland have already had two bites of the cherry and failed. Better off playing a game somewhere like Napier or even Hamilton where there is strong football support.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The chicken wire is a touch of class (might have been taken down for the egg ball games).

This is going to be a hard sell. Any genuine ideas appreciated. As time allows I'm going to try and make contact with tourism and council officials in the city. And borrow a few ideas from Wellington Tourism body - a group I admire. Anyone here work for them and want to PM me some help?

FFA Take Hyundai A-League Into The Regions

"THE HYUNDAI A-League will take the game out to the regions with five 'community' clashes confirmed today by Football Federation Australia.

The five matches in Morwell, Bathurst, Dunedin, Campbelltown and Launceston, come as Australian football tries to take the league to new frontiers.

Along with the announcement of the community games, Wellington Phoenix will also take a match to Eden Park in Auckland."

Nice to see that the FFA ranks Dunedin and Auckland among the finest Australian cities!!!

Would it help if the Nix wore the Romanian colours as a third strip?
