Worst performance for a long while if not ever, the stadium wasn't the best to watch football but i liked the fact Beer was $5.00 a CAN (none of this plastic bottle crap) you could buy a slab of Beer, they had Hell pizza and other food besides pies and hot dogs  on offer and Security was pretty lax as well not that there was any trouble

how about that wind huh
oh and

What was the official crowd number? Was it around 6500 like Torne said?

When is greenacre back? His present has been missed. Ifill isnt getting any ball so he's going it alone. Crowther made some great saves but he still makes basic mistakes. It's a mess isnt it?

The Greenacre out thread says 2 weeks possibly more.

sh*t really? 2more weeks. Someone hand me another bottle of vodka!

Hester was sh*t. I wasn't complaining about it but I can't see how he could give that penalty and let McKain off with a yellow. It puzzled me but that whole phase wasn't dealt with well by him. He should have figured out Bolton much earlier than he did and one of the few descisions I could agree with somewhat was the red card. Then again perhaps I am bias in regard to the red.

while it was a sh*t game in sh*t conditions in s sh*t town with a sh*t ref - it wasn't the spanking many had expected - and to be fair the weaker team will hopefully be better for the run - THEREFORE - we will be too strong for Adelaide.

Its starting to show more and more that we have a lack of strikers in our team(and at times A-league atandard footballers to)  It certainly makes me appreciate what Greenacre does week in and week out, as certainly Ifil is not an out and out striker and doesnt look like one either, neither does Costa. I think that priority is to a decent holding midfielder and a real striker

Meh. I wouldn't say it was simulation... McKain did clip his feet as he came across. However, I think that Brosque was pulling his shirt ridiculously and the foul should have gone the other way before McKain even kicked him. Terrible performance and game though.

Simulation is the act of pretending to be fouled with the intent of getting your team an advantage. That's exactly what Brosque did.

The amount of contact that Brosque took is less than some of the contact Daniel gets followed with 'falling down' comments on these forums on a regular basis.

The fact is Brosque could have kept his feet, and continued playing. He chose to fall over in the box in an effort to get awarded a dubious penalty, and the referee obliged.

That's simulation.

Agree....Hester cocked-up with this......McKain was fouledl 1st, even if it was very minor....The Aussie then fell over when in a goal scoring position.....Penalty me-a_s [ STRAIGHT RED to McKain should then have been given] But the " old" Aussie cheat should have been booked for diving......and he knew it.   ChopperHarris2009-12-13 14:46:36

The Aus 442 report does everything but call it a dive:

http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/118682,evergreen-corica-strikes-for-sky-blues.aspx

Corica struck from the spot after striker team-mate Alex Brosque went to ground in the box and the veteran Sydney playmaker converted from the spot after 16 minutes.[q/uote]

[quote]Sydney took the lead in the 15th minute when Brosque fell in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, much to the dislke of the Yellow Fever fans who dominated that end of the stadium. Skipper Corica took the shot and nailed the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net.

Hey all,
Tonight was the first time I've gone to a Phoenix match (was great they made the effort to come to the grey wastelands of the Palmy, though I wouldn't blame the team if they didn't want to visit again haha), and yup a disappointing result for sure. Still, really enjoyed the experience and the Yellow Fever was fantastic.

Winds were pretty gusty which was always going to make things interesting but definitely not the highest standard of the play. The keeper certainly had some eccentric moments but made some good saves. Thought the ref was a bit average but of course they always are when your side loses :) Still reckon we could have nicked it at the end, had enough corners and the red card was a boost but never mind...

Still the team won a fan tonight (just watched em casually on the TV previously), and I'll have to get down to Welly to see the true Phoenix home ground. Frustrating night tho...

Welcome Giff..a convert after a game like that is a convert indeed.  There wil be better games in the new year...

Ha well the game wasn't much to write home about but it was being held in Palmerston North at the mighty FMG after all... reading some of the comments here it sounds like the Phoenix can only go upwards so heres to some better perfomances.

Nope, because he wasn't booked. McKain, Daniel and Lia were booked.

Now Lia is one yellow away from a 2 match suspension.

Have to say that the game was the worst part of the entire weekend, really poor stuff. Of course, it wasn't helped by the wind which made both teams appear like a bit of a shambles at times.

The passing from Phoenix was some of the worst I have ever seen, so many passes were too hard, too short, intercepted easily, we struggled to string more than 2 together in the whole game! The final ball was a nightmare too. Got into some half decent positions, and delivery let us down. This was summed up by Lia slicing the ball right out of play when he got in a good position on the byline in the 2nd half.

The entire performance I felt was summed up by us getting a free kick about 30 yards out late on and Daniel just belted it straight off Ifill's back! I think I nearly had a coronary at that moment!

Once again, 1 up front does not work, end of story. I realise we are rather short on strikers but I think Costa should have been up there with Ifill, even though neither are strikers. We don't have much choice though.

Will need to see the penalty again, my initial reaction was that McKain was lucky not to be sent off.

I really hope we can make some kind of guest signing sharpish.

The only card Daniel should have been given was a birthday one. Now that I have had time to reflect, the only thing I enjoyed about the whole event other than the Pizza, was the Fans in the YF area. The humour under such "testing" conditions was brilliantly funny. No trouble either and what? I saw a flag pole longer than 1 meter and there was no trouble with it. flags at Westpac are something the stadium Trust need to sort out. Everyone else allows them and they are no problem.

OK not the best time in the world although the pub afterwards was funny, but some of the locals loved it, these guys have never been to a home match and really got into it. (even the arsehole who threw a bucket that hit Vickmeist's aunty in the face). We bought the Nix to another place and I reckon we did a good job.

So rubbish performance and rubbish ground but quite a laugh I thought. Well done everyone.

I can't believe we've now lost three times this season so tamely to what is a very average Sydney team in my view.  Sure, Sydney didn't deserve to lose last night but did they deserve to win it?

Bottom of the league for Christmas after we capitulate again to Adelaide next week.  .  Same old, same old...

Sorry, just really f*cked off with it all at the moment.

I wasn't meaning like those rediculously sized Sydney ones. but there is plenty of room around the stadium for us to wave those big flags from the club shop that are about 3 feet by 6 feet. And a flag pole say 5 feet in length.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you to Melbourne for keeping CCM within our reach, one bright spot from yesterday is that we are still only a couple of points out of the top six!

Adelaide away will be tough tho....

I could not have said it better. It was the worst A league game of the year.
The conditions were bad but these guys are proffessional.Over 90m you would have thought that most of our players knew the wind was playing a major part, but obviously they don't have many football brains.
Sydney at least had a couple of guys that kept the ball on the deck.
Lochhead gave the ball away 4 times in as many min. in the second half. He was not alone.
Half the threads are happy about other teams not winning.
It is about time we stopped hoping these stupid ideas and got on with the job. The Nix, playing their best don't have to worry about the other teams. The problem is we don't play well enough, often enough.

All our strikers are short, not so much shortage of strikers. Why do we play high balls to guys under 6' in height against defenders usually 6'3" in height?? yesterdays game plan should have been play it along the ground.

If the game plan was for Tim Brown to save the day, he needed to be Steve Gerrard in disguise.

Not so much a shortage of strikers?!? Despite the fact that we started the game without a SINGLE recognised striker?

I think a game in Palmerston North was a mistake and nothing last night changed my mind.

I arrived at the bleak little hole they call a stadium only to find that although a Phoenix Lounge Member, wasn't allowed in the stand.

I got to my allotted area and it kind of looked like some prison in Siberia, so I figured no problem, will go and upgrade my ticket, pay the extra five or ten bucks and get in the stand.

Found the Ticketek "office" and was told by the woman running it that I'd have to wait in the long line to talk to someone as important as her.

I was then advised it was not possible to upgrade tickets, but it wasn't the fault of Ticketek as they were just following orders from Phoenix Management.

I then said "Flippin heck" and was told if I was going to swear they wouldn't talk to me further.

Judging by the number of people queueing to talk to the little hitler, I wasn't the only one who was not aware I couldn't get in the stand without paying for a new $30 ticket. Indeed the guy on guard at the gate said he has spoken to a number of disgruntled members.

So can't see me going to Palmy again and might just flag the season ticket if this is the treatment you get when you drive up to Palmerston for a game that should have been in Wellington anyway.

Don't think the venue did the team any favours either.

Haven't seen the penalty on TV yet but it looked like a big dive from where I was, behind the wire on that side. It also looked like an off-side for that matter.

Aarrgghhh - what a waste of an evening.

I would rather have travelled to watch the game at Park island in Napier! But as someone suggested, Porirua Park and a 5pm KO would've seen the game finish in daylight with a happy crowd and a lot better atmosphere than standing out in the barren waste lands of a stock car track.

Never again Tony, never allow this to happen again.

To those who had a bad time in Palmy: blames yourselves.

There was plenty of fun to be had after the match, as you can see here:

lol i realized i got sh*t tickets so i sat in the stand anyway. Luckily no one asked me to move  . I paid for good tickets at the rof (season pass) so why should i have to sit on bright red wooden stands held up by scaffolding that feels like it will fall any minute ??

sh*t Venue really.
