Good goal by Danning, he was well played in by Brosque. Smeltzy looked largely uninterested until the last 2 minutes. Hearfields sending off was a poor decision in my opinion, Brosque should have been red carded at the same time at least... Daniel looked average off the bench too.

What would you red card him for?
Was it not Brosque who caused the incident with Hearfield?

Then you give him a yellow for the tackle and a yellow for inciting a confrontation. Although to be fair, it was Hearfield looking for Brosque after he got up not Brosque looking for Hearfield.
No red there.

The Mythbusters would only be able to rate that myth as plausible but inconclusive!

Obviously it's not definite but that is my opinion.

hoenstly...we were not doing too much when we were attacking....we had the same amount of missed chances as sydney...i thought a draw would have been a fair result

TBH the Phoenix did SFA tonight knowing the desired outcome that was needed for us to push for a top 4 spot. There is no point blaming anyone for this loss as the team never pulled together and played as a team. You could tell in the first 15-20 minutes that they were looking a little sluggish and just didn't have that extra urgency in them but at the end of the day you have got to take the good and the bad in football..

You dumb c**ts blaming Hearfield for that loss are doing nothing more than proving you have the brains of 3 year olds, we loss because we couldn't finish, we lacked imagination, Sydney scored a good goal and we got some tough decisions. Not because Troy got sent off, grow the f**k up you stupid c**ts! f**k I can't wait for school to start again so you lot can get back to Mummy making your lunches and people wiping your ass for ya!

We lost that in the first twenty.  With a bunch of kids we needed to assert ourselves (like we did last time against Sydney) and they would have crumbled.  Instead we let them get more and more confidence so by the time of the sending off and Danning coming on the only results were a draw or them winning.

If....  If..... If....If Smeltz hadnt missed the open goal early...if the ref hadnt missed their early handball in the penalty area...if Gan had been penalised for pushing Smeltz in the box... If...

The reason we lost is...

It happens in football, we couldnt finish our chances and gave them some, and one too many in the end...

I completely blame Hearfield for that. Sure it was a soft send off but it could have easily been avoided if he'd just taken the free kick instead of being a t**ser. Cost us a spot in the finals. w**ker.

f**k off mate..wake up..smell the roses..he was the only playing well..is smeltz could finish..differnt story..

I'm not usually one to do this, but I completely blame Heartfield for this loss. He didn't need to do what he did, he should have just walked away, and we wouldn't be a man down. After he was sent off Sydney ran us all over the pitch and just made us look like amateurs. Well, I guess there's only one game left worth watching (and I doubt we'll do well in that). Can't be bothered watching us play Melbourne as we've got no chance and our playoff chances are finished.

Blaming Hearfield is like England blaming Beckham for losing to Argentina in 1998. Complete and utter crap! THE WHOLE TEAM LOST NOT JUST HEARFIELD!!!

No it's not. When you're playing the most important match of the season, you do not do something so utterly retarded as to give the other team a major advantage. All Heartfield needed to do was walk away, but instead he had to get all macho. You could see it on his face when the camera showed him off pitch that he knew he cost his team the game.

True or False
Hearfield being sent off was the major incident in the game (before the goal) which had an effect on how the rest of the game would be played by Wellington.

Rickie was quoted as saying we are getting 4 imports for next season.....bring it on. With Smeltz gone we need a clean out of our attacking players . Super leo would be the only one I would leave...hearfield in the squad probably. As has been pointed out we lack pace, creativity and vision. Get rid of the journeymen....we need some class.

Saying that this team has achieved close to its maximum. We have got by on guts and a never say die attitude. That will get you only so far....skill and class will get you into the top 4

Don't be a t**ser. We couldn't finish and we played some very average football but you can't deny that Hearfield's sending off was uncalled for and showed complete inexperience. Brosque baited him and he took it. Stupid mistake which had massive consequences for the final result.

Doesn't mean I don't support the team and doesn't mean I won't be at the next game. It's just the truth of the matter, and a damn shame.

I know I won't be able to sleep tonight until I get this off my chest...

Alex Brosque is a whining, cheating little lady-boy and Troy Hearfield is his bitch.

That's better!

True we cant even head butt with conviction!!

Herbert should really campaign for a return to the pass back to the keeper rule it suits his ultra conservative style ,we needed some controlled urgency and got, well basically a Monday morning training run !!

well said jose...we just arent good enough..no pace..no vision...and seemingly no plan...any reason why our young guys arent getting a run..no chance for draper all season in a team that cant score goals..as for dodd great stopper..damn shame he forgets who he is playing for when he passes..all in all a good solid season but we desperately need some players with a bit of spark to fire up the journeymen we possess specially with smeltz gone next year...as for the sending off well i think itll be a good learning experience for hearfield..

Dude that was a blatant cheap shot forearm to the head. Not cool regardless how you spin it. We are better than that and shouldn't lower our standards. Hearfield will be a marked man if not careful

not serious mate..brosque the w**ker obviously steps into him and hearfield just jumps out of the road..no blatant forearm..

There is no way you can justify that from Hearfield. I know you're his bum buddy but seriously.

neverthless rgardless of the result and my bitch about it the phoenix are my team and I will continue to take my seat with the yellowfever and hope that we can bring in a bit of fresh blood for next seasons campaign...PHOENIX PHOENIX
Shouldn't McFlynn have been booked for deliberate handball when he punched it into the goal?  If a defender had done that to save one we know what the outcome would be...

He was booked

i think we have probably done as well as our aqbility will let us..that goes for both players and  coaching staff..will reserve judgement on the management until we see the results of their recruiting this summer although seeing both moss and smeltz head off is not a great look however unavoidable...did we miss siggy today..seems to me he is the dude to build the spine of the team around

A headbutt is a headbutt whether it's a pussy one like tonight's or a full blooded flourish to the nut. Doesn't matter which one, the red card is the result. Dumb and immature

My god. The first post where you have actually made sense.
Had Williams gotten in there straight away and had the card out, the rest of the stuff may not have happened

It could be argued that Durante off at halftime changed the game, weakened our defense and midfield all at once I thought

Pull your tongue out of your mates ass already. Man up and admit what your friend did was foolish REGARDLESS of being goaded or not.

As for the forearm? Seriously, I bet you though Terry McFlynns goal was legit too right?

disappointed with Bertos's dead balls. Corners and free kicks hitting the first man. i think that cost us dearly. Lochy was garbage. Hearfield was looking good before he got sent off. I dont agree that he should have been. Williams was an arse to us all night. What was that drop ball all about? Durante was prob our best before he came off.
Well thats my thoughts in a nutshell
