Come on Marco. We've all seen your silky football skills but now's the time to show us the qualities that will really carry you far in life.

don't have a picture to say it, but it seems as marco has been fed ideas that he's goning to be better utilised elsewhere, so fine you little snot, leave, it wasn't afterall the YF who discovered you and gave you your break in the a-league - hell you owe us nothing, go sit on the bench for melbourne and have a nice life.

"We appreciate everything they did. The opportunity they gave him was massive," he said.

"Hopefully they understand."

Yeah.Good luck with that.

This is not really the way to convince him to stay folks.

Let's keep the messages positive until we know for sure.

Love you Marco! Please stay!!

sunday news this morning pretty much says it all if the report is correct.....another teenager convinced he is better than he is tho having achieved nothing, owes nothing in  terms of loyalty and respect and thinks it is all about him....would love to know if he has talked with about his aspirations to be an attacking central midfielder....given that the phoenix offer was the best financially and given that we have lost mossy, smelltz and Kosta is there a problem with ricki and his management skills or style.....seems ridiculous every time we get a quality kiwi we lose them immediately...i realise Kosta was a bit of a different story but with the same result...so much for growing nz football thru the nix

His strengths are crossing, speed and dribbling which are all suited to a wide position. Why he wants to compete with Hernandez for CAM I don't know.
What is frustrating about this though is that Melbourne will probably get a big transfer fee from a European club after only having him for a year, which is hardly what they deserve

Until it is confirmed we could stick with the topic dudes.Transfer speculation thread's all go right now..........

Why not stick it out one more year here. Grow your game further with first team football every week, be loved by the fans for showing some loyalty and still get a decent slab of $ all at the same time.   Then go after one more after growing as a player and becoming more vaulable in all regards. It just makes sense to do this. The fans created your professional football career, at least give one more year. It's only going to do better things for your career. Win a war, not a battle.

excuse my ignorance but is this thread not about marco staying...which obviously means that he may leave which i would have thought was a valid point to comment on...

Welcome to professional football everybody. We lost a player to another club. It happens in every league all around the world. Yes, Yellow Fever were the reason he became a professional in the first place, but professional clubs lose Academy graduates to rival clubs all the time. As a player, you have to do what is best for your career based on advice given to you from those around you and from your own opinions. If they make a bad decision, how does it effect us? It doesn't. If the reason we keep losing young Kiwi talent is management at the Phoenix, then that is another discussion point. Let's focus on the club rebuilding for next season after what was a pretty average year for the club and move forward.

Even if we're being business-like about this: He should have been sold off, not sent away on a free.

Mike Ashley would have done better.Stripes2011-02-27 11:01:34

Then angst should be towards the club for their mismanagement.

And how would they do this? Force him to sign a new contract so we can sell him? Or sign every 17 unproven youth player with some possible potential to 5-7 year contracts?

If he goes the blame will lie with the music selection in this thread. To describe some of it as crap is being nice.

be good if he stays, he needs to develop more. Leanr defending - even attacking midfielders need to defend. Learn not to get pushed off the ball.

The lad has the ability, not sure if melbourne would be the place. He'd learn to be like their Muscat.

Whatever he chooses, he has given us some good memories. Personally, Marco has had plenty of game time, he has to wonder is the grass greener in the next paddock or will he be just another with potential. Here he was allowed to develop. I fera at Melbourne, he'll be just another.

And of course Kruse would get jealous of someone else getting the attention perhaps.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Wow.  When you put it like that, it's obvious that there was no alternative.  I retract, sir.  Thank you for sharing your god-like wisdom.  I can tell from your remarkable knowledge about football that; if you were managing the Phoenix, we would win the European Champions League every year, if you were the owner, we would be the richest club in the world, if you were part of the playing staff, you would be the player of the century.  Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you for explaining my errors.

Yeah.  You're right.  I'm sorry for being silly.  With aitkenmike at the helm, we'd win the ECL twice a year.  Maybe three times a year after a bit of investment in the squad.

Can't sell to a-leauge players.  Plus his contract is up.

How exactly are you meant to sell a player you don't own?

I'm incredibly grateful to you for the correction.  There are, after all, no other interested parties and the club never had an opportunity to offer Marco an extension until now.  I'm sure that you saw my grovelling apology to aitkenmike for my putting about utter nonsense upthread, so please understand that I sincerely appreciate the further correction.  Your genius and profundity is, perhaps, second to his, but this should in no way detract from our admiration.

Hang on.

1, The article posted today says the only genuinely viable interested parties are other A-league clubs.
2, It says the Phoenix have offered as much or more than anyone else.
3, Were they meant to re-sign him when he had played 30 seconds of A-League football and was recovering from ankle surgery that may never have properly heeled?

How's my driving? - Whine here
