Wide on the left from what I saw last week.

Can he be naturalized?

Good to see us win, Lia's goal sounded good, would kill to see it.  Was 3 News or Prime there I wonder.

What game were you watching numpty ?

As I recall it they started:

Crowther
Lia - McKain - Durante - Hogg
Hearfield - Eager - Daniel - Marco
Costa - Astroclaus

Suspect Stefan's fapping was in fact Marco...  VIllazon didn't come on until into the second half.

Marco played a great game. Full-time contract in the offing I hope.

Villazon did look good once he came on, played some excellent balls and has looked good each time I've seen him, but Marco was the star for chunks of tonight.  Superb.

Astroclaus looked patchy in front of goal and ran out of legs, hopefully just lagged and behind on fitness.  When he was on form, good in the air and quick, but as he says not the best techician in history.

Musn't forget the Latin American mafia for Lower Hutt, they and Sam Blackburn played some good football.

how long is the trial of astro?he seemed a little uneasy with his first touches? would be great to watch i reckon when he's feeling confident, he did seem like he was struggling a little with some sort of injury he took forever to get back onside alot of the time. either that or he is a little lazy? haha

Not exactly what we need then. Doubt he'll sign, no matter how good.

[QUOTE=loyalgunner] Can he be naturalized?

It's kind of pathetic that this is the first question asked when a foreign player signs for the Nix.

Villazon is a central player, not wide.

The left sided player was Fever Scholarship winner (bought to you by YHA) Marco Roja.  Interestingly enough similar backgrounds being Chilean ancestory but born on opposite sides of the Tasman.

My beloved Australia? What?

And every country doesn't do it. It's understandable that we would be interested in any player that could possibly play at a  professional level and be eligable, sure, but 20 year old Aussie kids? 21 year old goalkeepers? (when we have several more than capable keepers anyway) What?

Devalues the All Whites shirt imo.

With players like Mulligan/Christie pushing for spots in the All Whites it's more than understandable to want to naturalize anything that moves.

Agreed, and who has australia naturalised recently as a matter of fact anyway? It's really quite desperate...these guys are aussies!

Great to see Lia back and thought he played well.

Did not realise how big a unit Crowther was until saw him walk out at halftime beside Durrante dwarfing him.

Of the strikers on display thought the Lower Hutt striker, Corrales was the most impressive. Hard to get a gauge on Astro, he did some things well looked to have a fair bit of pace and did not get a great deal of service from midfield where I thought Lower Hutt tied Daniel and Eager down far too easily.

Agree with views expressed on Rojas he looked very comfortable with the ball and looked to have a bit of pace and flair.

Don't forget NZ Under-20 as well 2ndBest... also been known to visit this place from time to time.

I think he's 17, he's marginally too old for the U-17 World Cup.

Must say I thought that game was highly entertaining. Lots of movement, action and 3 cracking goals. Ferkin cold....was like being back in Christchurch on a frosty night.

Corrales goal was superb...great counterattack at speed and an excellent finish. Lia's goal was a beauty...25metres out, struck like a rocket. Daniels was a brilliant free kick, over the wall top right corner.

Other impressions.... Lia is a very good footballer....offers quite a bit on attack from right back. muscat is going to have a challenge to his spot. Daniel did some good stuff, ran more freely than last year.....looked more like the Daniel of season one.

I know its only early days and only a practice game but a few things need work. Like...how come we can't boss the midfield against a team like Hutt? Lots of passing accross the back but few killer passes forward. We need a playmaker in midfield. The service to Costa and Astroclaus was average.

on the good side the defense looked solid....everone looked keen and interested. I'm optimistic about this season

Agreed, he's a good player to have in the squad.  Scored a nice goal against Melbourne in season 1.  Disappointed that he was ruled out of the whole of last season.  He will definitely keep Muscat on his toes, not that Muscat needs motivation, he was consistent almost every game he played.

Oh Really?

I know you guys like to give Australia a bad rap here, but a quick check shows that of the 23 sqaud members for this June WCQ's, 21 were born in Australia, 2 were born overseas (Vidosic and Djite) - moving to Australia at the ages of 1 and 3 years old.

Not really the same as naturalizing a Brazilian now is it?

Yeah, I know I said naturalising but I meant fielding players from other countries.  I had Archie Thompson in mind. loyalgunner2009-06-04 20:15:17

The "Naturalizing a Brazilian" was actually a cheap shot at the situation with Daniel, but nevermind.

I didn't think of Archie in a national team capacity... but I believe he started his career in Australia so it's not so bad I guess.

Anyway I don't want to drag this off-topic, sorry all :)

He only lived here for a couple of years (maybe less) - Archie that is.  We just like to amuse ourselves with turncoat gags seeing as he was called up by us but Aus rushed to cap him to make sure he didn't play for us.

He started playing footy as a 4yo in NSW. That'd suggest no more than four years in NZ.  But the most important thing is that he can choose to identify him as Kiwi, Aussie or Papau New Guinean. He chooses to identify as Australian. To claim otherwise is disrespectful to him and frankly pathetic when NZers should be celebrating and promoting their own successes rather than trying to claim others.

That being said, Pavlova and Phar Lap ARE Kiwi. Unfortunately, Russel Crowe is Australian, I'd love to give him back...

+ 1, although he still seemed a little off-pace, letting Corrales in for the opener a prime example.
