Twitter said Brockie, but maybe they meant Boxall since it was a CB coming on.

So the Nix next game is a 'friendly' against an I-League selection - does this also absorb the bans handed down by FFA? Would be good to see Dura and Siggy get some game time together on this tour.

Permalink Permalink

If I'm not mistaken, Dura has now completed his ban, so available for next match.  Siggy should be available for the final match (as the exhibition match also counts as I understand it).

I know, I know, its serious!

Yip they are all FFA sanctioned friendlies therefore they count.

I'm interested to hear where a few of the accademy players are actually playing on the field in these games, I know most of them, but a few Im not 100% sure.

Tom Doyle - Is he being played as a winger / wide midfielder or more central?

Justin Gully - Playing Right Back?

Tom Biss - An attacking midfielder or more deeper?

Louis Fenton - Winger or in behind the striker?

Does anyone know if Brockie was playing up front or out wide? I thought he should be playing up front so am hoping he convinced Ricki to give him more of a go there.

Permalink Permalink

He hasn't been generally in pre-season.  It's been Boyd and Ifill up front with Totori and Brockie wide.

Hasn't stopped him smacking them in though.

Anyone know what formation we have been playing in pre-season? 4231 or 433 or what?

Yeah, from the sounds of it something like a loose 442. Normally two nominal strikers but with Ifill normally one of the strikers its pretty flexible. Especially if you chuck in Totori and Brockie that both can play in attack. Would have been interesting to watch when Fenton was playing alongside Ifill as then we would have a pretty flexible forward line. Hopefully Ricki is allowing the players the freedom to judge where best to position themselves in attack just refrence points being teammates, opponents, space and where the ball is to where they position themselves. (4240?) Universallity across the attacking four.

3pm India kick-off - 9.30pm NZ time.   Probably no live streams as these are minor I-League clubs the Nix are playing, not glamour clubs who garnish more attention like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal or Dempo. TV coverage is fixated currently on the major Nehru Cup football tournament in Delhi involving India, Cameroons, Syria, Nepal and Maldives, and more high-profile I-League pre-season friendlies...India has 24-hour channels dedicated to football which show a lot of local plus international leagues, but not these low-key friendlies in remote parts of India.

Note the Nix are not playing "an I-League" selection as stated in NZ media reports and by some in above posts - they're in fact playing the local national second division side (and Meghalaya state league champion), Royal Wahingdoh FC. Also note that all NZ and Aussie sources have got the name of this club wrong too - it's not " Wahingeoh Sports Club" as stated in the news report link on the Yellow Fever home page.

Wahingdoh won the state league on the weekend and beat the Nix's previous opponents Shillong Lajong on the way.

Star imports include Ennio Silva, a Brazilian striker; Beekay Bawar, a Liberian striker and Nigerian defender Kareem Nurain.

Shillong, June 22: Royal Wahingdoh FC has appointed 63-year-old German Volker Hofferbert as its head coach.

Hofferbert, an international football coach with a UEFA Pro Licence, also has a master’s degree in sports science and was a former faculty of physical education in the University of Cologne.

A statement issued by the club said the German has over three decades of experience with coaching assignments in Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Iceland, Yemen, Romania and Laos.

He was also the former head coach of the Yemen national football team and most recently has been in charge of building sporting infrastructure in Laos with specialisation in youth and women’s football.

Hofferbert was also the head coach of the University Team of Cologne, and the Icelandic Professional Club Valur Reykjavik, which won two championships and took part in the Champions’ League against English club Aston Villa.

Wahingdoh had a three week training camp in Windeck, Germany in May where they played three matches against lower-division sides.

Bigger crowd expected for this one:

Organisers are predicting a crowd of over 25,000 for the Wellington Phoenix’ game against Wahingeoh Sports Club at the Nehru Stadium in Shillong today.

Wahingeoh are a local side and fierce rivals of Shillong Lajong who went down 2-5 to the Phoenix in Impahl on Sunday.

They are determined to better that result to show they are stronger than their local rivals.

Another reason for Wahingeoh are wanting a top-class performance against the Wellington side is the injustice they feel in being denied promotion to the top division in controversial fashion at the end of last season.

Needing only a draw in their last league game, Wahingeoh were 3-1 up with five minutes to play when they put a foreign player on as a substitute.

Unfortunately the new player put their foreign quota over the limit. They were docked six points and missed promotion.

There was a stream "up" with a chatroom but then it disappeared and you get diverted to the generic webpage.
