It was a lochhead error

Dissapointing that our most experienced back 4 of the tourny let in 3. Although sounds like goals werent based on poor defending.

Still to play Young Heart Manawatu (semi local), not sure on date though so could possibly be after Wanderers

The Wanderers game is on the 23rd and YoungHeart is on the 29th.

Being an afternoon game, it is tempting (but expensive) to fly down in the morning and return that evening.

I need to find an old email but pretty sure there is a game vs Petone and possibly one vs TeeDubs before the Wanderers games.

Of course these are not 'matches'. They are competitive trainings.

Got my hopes up when I read Petone, but I don't think I can't get out to Porirua. Is there a reason for playing it in Porirua rather than Petone?

I was more interested in this part: "Developments on the football scene in India are really exciting and even include the possibility of an IPL (International Profession League) as they have successfully launched with cricket."

Does this refer to Champions League Cricket or the Indian Premier League? Or are they just talking about a Football Federation or something?

Would be neat if the Indians were divising some kind of additional champions league competition or other international club competition (that the Phoenix can actually have the opportunity to be a part of).

If they tour India again, I hope they have the contacts/ respect now to play more major clubs. The two I-League clubs they played were about the weakest in the league, in the most remote parts. These sorts of criticisms of facilities in the press wouldn't arise if playing in major cities where I've seen some great stadia more like A-League level used by I-League clubs:

Don't get your hopes up about this one - no possibility of the Phoenix taking part. Will only consist of Indian franchises who will sign marquee veteran foreign players and coaches. Probably to be played April-May 2013.

Inaugral comp was supposed to take place Feb-April this year in football hotbed Bengal but was deferred to next year:

It was supposed to kick-off in March 2012 as a six-team intra-Bengal affair with the Indian Football Association (IFA) which helms the sport in the state. Players such as Robert Pires, Fabio Cannavaro, Hernan Crespo, Jay-Jay Okocha and Robbie Fowler had confirmed too. Officially, the meet has been deferred because the IFA couldn’t provide grounds."

Also canned because the national body (AIFF, All India Football Federation) were opposed due to such a tournament encroaching on its I-League national comp played at the same time:

Interestingly, the idea of having a franchise-based league was mooted by a Kolkata based company Celebrity Management Group (CMG) under the aegis of Indian Football Association but AIFF didn't give a go-ahead.

However, the AIFF is now planning to do the same eight-team league with players' auction. Some of the aged retired stars like Fabio Cannavaro and some like Hernan Crespo are likely to play alongside top Indian players like Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Syed Rahim Nabi.

AIFF is planning to create a two-month window after the I-League finishes which will allow the top Indian players to participate in the league. However after a gruelling six-months of national league, it will certainly be questionable whether it is wise to allow the top Indian players participate considering that their jaded bodies would require much-needed rest."

Wow thanks for the awesome reply.

I thought that the I-league was already that for India (I-league=A-league of inida=logic ?) so I was confused as to what Gareth could have meant.

Would be really cool to create an additional champions league comp for various regional franchises (not necessarily for champions) to play during the first part of the offseason, maybe do like a regional round robin like superrugby to reduce travel expense.

With the NZ boys away how will the team line up ?

Will Lia, Sanchez and Downey front up? (given up on Pantelis)

Who will pair with Durante in the centre of defence......Solomons? (didn`t seem to be in favour in India)

And of course Right Back....... Lia, Downey or Yoof

Even though it`s a minor friendly, I`m intrigued

I haven't seen much mentioned at all about the game on the forum, especially compared to the Dunedin game last year. Maybe after the AW game mid week it might get some focus.

Atm you can get $69 airfares down Sunday morning, and back Monday afternoon with Air NZ. Flights back Sunday night are $199. Hoping the Sunday night return might come down a bit cheaper closer to the date, so I can pop down for the day.

Question for those ChCh based fans, is there much buzz about the game? Will you guys beat the mark Dunedin set last year?

Yeah there has been bugger all, if any, publicity about it. I certainly haven't been exposed to any and I would consider myself in the target market.

So what sort of a YF contingent do you think we'll get? The smart thing to do would be to have a few warm-up beers at Tower Junction Ale House.
