Build it on the Hutt Park land. Plenty of access and parking. Free bus service from Woburn or Petone. Go with HN, two storey rectangle and use the lower 15k for the Nix and both levels for All Whites games. With the sort of crowds the Hurricanes get, they might want to use it too for a better atmosphere.
Westpac was built with one day cricket in mind. But since those guys cant perform well consistently, the 1 day crowds have dwindled. mind you bring out such big name teams like Bangladesh for two years running really helped getting the crowds in. Whereas bring SA, Oz & england would have been the better idea. But what do I know? All I see at Westpac, regardless of the sport is lots and lost of empty seats - except for the 7's piss up party where apparently some 7's rugby might get played in gaps during the drinking.

You're right LG, what do you know??
No, seriously....
Three for me, and two for them.
I was really hoping this was a thread about stadiums built by porpoises!
Disappointed!

I don't know how many of you oldsters remember this, but when Athletic Park was being dismantled and a new home for sport in Wellington was being built, the Railyards Stadium concept was contested by one of an "Aotea Stadium" near the Police College just north of Porirua. The idea was that this would actually be easier to get to for the majority of the Greater Wellington area. I wonder if any sharp-eyed spruiker from Porirua wants to revive the idea of Aotea Football Park.

I'd love for you blokes to have a 25,000 all-seater rectangular stadium. It would be epic.
Parramatta Stadium really is amazing, even just with 9,000 people (the sorts of crowds we got in our early days).
When the club was being formed they did fan forums where anyone could have their say on where to play games. All the fans wanted the club to play at Parramatta Stadium, the reason being how atmosphere would be generated by its rectangular shape and 20,000 capacity. It was also important that the club had only one home ground, and that that home ground be located in Western Sydney.
The fans wanted to build a tribal culture. They didn't want to play "big games" at the Olympic Stadium (80,000 seat capacity), away from the club's usual home ground. The club then made the brave decision to hold the derby games at Parramatta instead of taking the financial rewards from a larger crowd if the game was moved to the Olympic Stadium. The opportunity for a quick money grab was given up in the interest of building a club culture.
With the limited capacity of Parramatta Stadium, everyone has now bought memberships in order to guarantee a seat at games. Tickets to WSW games are the hottest ticket in town and everyone is proud of entertaining teams in the West at Parramatta instead of having them play at the soul-less Olympic Stadium where there is no atmosphere and where there is no nearby CBD/entertainment district for pre and post-game activites. Some fans are happy to miss attending a game due to a sell-out because at least the game hasn't been moved to the Olympic Stadium.
Keep up the dream. The cake tin is too big. It would be great to use a smaller stadium and play all games there.
Anyone else jealously want WSW to have a losing season just to see if the crowds stick around?

porirua would be easy enough to get too,via trains, sam as coming into town from P-town or the hutt, difference is that a bulk (im assuming) of the fanbase live in the CBD suburbs. Fact remains that westpac is the only stadium that has the facilities that meet FFA/Fifa standards, there is unlikely to be any money invested in any other venue - by the nix or the council. So we have to make the best of the stadium we have. The discussion is by no means useless, but I reckon the focus at this point has to be getting 10-15k fans at every home game.
Queenslander 3x a year.
Tonnes of space? In Porirua? Where exactly?

That would be great but I think that might take some time to achieve, and the Nix would have to have a couple of good seasons too.
I'm sure they will have success in the next few years.
We just have to do our best and let the A-League develop and see what happens.
Westpac is a good stadium, slightly too big but still its way better than what Brisbane and Newcastle have I reckon.

Lower Hutt has Petone Rec & Hutt Rec grounds.
Should be able to build a football stadium on one of those.
Should kick Rugby out of Rugby League park and build that up with Te Whaea as training pitch.

Money would be an issue there.
"Why are we spending millions to build a stadium next to a stadium?"
"So the nix fans can experience a slightly better atmosphere"
"Fuck off"
lol great post

Porriua Hospital grounds. Massive space, a bit of a ghetto now. Could do with being completely revamped.

From about 8 minutes listen to them moan about Wellington...
Food improving and being cheaper at Westpac? Yeah Right! - Tui's sign for the future??
in other countries teams have custom 15,000 seater stadiums. I don't see why its impossible.

The old innovation - pragmatic disconnect at work here.
Interesting that the Muldoon govt (mostly evil) initiated the Think Big projects - which turned out to be not particularly helpful due to drop in oil prices in the 1980s. However the basic premise was good (diversify the economy and build infrastucture).
why don't you build it then! *slams door and listens to Fall Out Boy in bedroom*
Council doesn't build stadiums in other countries - Phoenix should fund a stadium with sponsors in tow. They can rent it to the Lions, team wellington, the orcas, etc..
He might have fucked up but at least Muldoon had balls. You stagnate you die. He who dares wins. etc.
