Kiss-cam...

Am I HardNews in disguise?

It's far too easy to forget the dire shit that was dished up last year and be negative about this start. All in all I thought we went pretty well and payed some really good football at times. If this is an indicator for the season then we will make the top six easy. I was harsh on Adams and sitting down at aisle 31 it was easy to see his first instinct was to track back to the middle of defence, but he is no RB so I can forgive him the first goal for them.Thought Manny was outstanding and my MOTM and Hernandez all class.

The loss was hard to take in the 92 min. But the game was exciting and I can stomach a loss like that as long as the quality of our football is good. Plenty of others will contribute more as they settle (Cunningham and Ciarra) and with Dura and co coming back i can't wait till the next one!

Overall I thought we play pretty bloody well, lost our composure for the two goals but that is able to be rectified.

Looking forward to Napier!

On balance more positives than negatives (although expectations weren't high).  Plenty to build on; plenty to work on.

Far too early to say much more than that.  I remember this time last year being absolutely thrilled with not only the result but the way we played against Sydney in the season opener.  Definitely a new passing - flowing Nix out there we all thought.  Didn't quite turn out that way.

How we go with a full(ish) squad at Western Sydney will be interesting (and whether we have the courage to still "play football").  Looking forward to it.

I know, I know, its serious!

One difference between this year and last is that this is the way Ernie wants to play and can coach to it, wheras RH, well, you know what I mean

Banstick for Patrick for not watching the game and snogging his way through it

I thought hicks did ok after the first 20 and settled into the game really well. He works hard and made quite a few overlapping runs which caused a bit of chaos. He also teed up Hysegems with a good opportunity and hit some good balls.

It will be interesting to see who comes in and who drops out, Brockie for hysegems?? Ifil for Hicks.

Worst player for me was Adams, every time he got beaten instead of working hard to track back or pick up other players coming in he ambled back watching. Really poor attitude to have in someone so young and who should be chomping at the bit to get involved.

Siggy has not learnt from last year and is still rushing out of the line too much.

To be fair, I think the mood about how the team played is positive. I think its realised we played well and ran out of gas with a heartbreaker in the 91st. There is some genuine beef with how a couple of players played but not anything to completely start kicking doors down and rioting in the streets.

Far out one of the best screen kisses of all time...

Patrick's mate does not look comfortable at all

Either that or is checking out the girl to his right, " Mum I want a girlfriend too!!"

Patrick and Girlfriend, if you are going to set up a double date at a Nix Match the other two need to stand together.

Anyhow can we have this on a new Fever t-shirt?

That dude's just wondering whether to make a lunge at the other chick.

Patrick - it is easy enough to get to first base in a crowd of 8,000 and on national TV. A home run under the same conditions - now that would be impressive.

I have no idea how you got from me loving the tiny dancing lion to kicking down doors and rioting in the streets but I guess that's just how you roll Jeff.

this shows how they ran out of steam and lost shape in the last 20.

Lia, for all the ball he gave away, interestingly had the 4th highest pass completion for the nix at 79% behind Hernandez, Huysegems, and Muscat.

Match stats on the FFA website are interesting.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/aleague/matchcentre/matchstats/Wellington-Phoenix-v-Brisbane-Roar-Hyundai-A-League/3088

Our midfield trio:

Manny: 10 tackles (90%won), 3 interceptions, 29 passes (82.8% accuracy)

Lia: 5 tackles (100% won), 1 interception, 42 passes (78.6% accuracy)

Herandez: 2 tackles (50% won). 1 interception, 45 passes (88.9% accuracy)

Lots more stats and chalkboards

stats can be made to say anything, 76% of passes completed? soi what, it doesn't tell you that 90% of those 42 passes went to manny who was 3 feet away, or the keeper. The attacking passes which matter all went to the opposition. Stats need more analysis to be meaningful
