Uh... the defense. Newcastle were poor. They got 3 chances all game and converted 2. The defense is more concerning.

I wonder what Victory are going to do to us, Newcastle have no attack and they managed to get two. Scary stuff.

That happened when Durante went off though, not making excuses but we had enough ball in the opposition half to score a hatful and didnt and that is a longterm problem for me now without Burns.

We played well. Start Sarpong and don't put Krishna on penalties. Also sort out the defence

Worried about the trip to Perth next game.  But then again Perth will attack more so could be more space for our forwards to work with. Defence will need to be a bit tighter but only 1 game in.

Funny. I was just thinking the same thing about Roly in this half. Turns on it too much.

and then Roly just proves my point again.

what was he meant to do there though? Had no options. Sure he fudgeed the pass but the momentum only stopped because he had no options. At least his first touch is always proactive. McG's hasn't been

Rodriguez was on his right on the touchline....... Make the pass rather than hoof it into left touch.

are you sure he was on? I recall seeing all his support either waiting in the box or standing behind a defender as he turned both ways to find an option without success....

Fuck this stupid game

Ref was poor. Should have given a couple of cards in the first half to both sides and that would have calmed the game down.

Our back four are far too slow and we are going to get punished. After watching all the games over the weekend, the Jets were the weakest, but we did not have anyone that could stamp their presence on the game.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I think the call to sort the attack is right. We were slow moving the ball, getting in behind and getting the ball across the face of goal. See the delivery at the start of the second half and from A-Rod. We didn't have any decent fast breaks and we often killed our own momentum in the middle of the park.

We've only once won on the first game of the season.

Fudge, 1 player down, injured goalie and we still couldn't level it.

Oh well, plenty of games to fix it.

Fritz Weiner's were great.

That's what a team with no striker(s) looks like.

Krishna is our best penalty taker?

McGlinchy (god knows why we went to such lengths to get him - he's been bloody average since he arrived) taking set pieces ?

Lia's on the park?

Parking up 50%

$25 for 2 piss arse bottles of sparkling wine - stadium, ripping people off since forever.

3 points thrown away.

26 games till the off-season.

Fudge fudge fudge.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Bizarre subs tonight. (why was A-rod playing wide right?)
Wee-mac was good the first half, disappeared completely in the second half.

Roly continues to prove he is an amazing player.

Lia frustrated me completely. Does some amazing good work, then nek minute wastes all his hard work by screwing up a simplish pass.

We look good in transition, but very lost in the front third. Newy crammed the box with numbers and we couldnt deal with it.

Moss did nothing really all game, he will be really disappointed with that second goal.

Next week start Sarpong, and bring on Apiah to run at tiring defenders

Lia was fudgeing terrible. At fault for their second and made his classic sharkty passes all night. HE IS A LIABILITY,

Well, that was embarrassing

The Jets were embarrassing but losing was even more embarrassing

Our attack was embarrassing

Our fullbacks - well a left footer on the right and a right footer on the left - Probably why they cut in all night. Embarrassing

The penalty, that was a tad embarrassing.

and the most embarrassing moment - a keeper getting cramp, well ok, he didn't really get cramp but then a keeper faking cramp is therefore even more embarrassing.

I'm embarrassed

See you on the 24th, lets do it again.

I can see why Sarpong didn't start. He still didn't start in the 30 minutes he got.

Who can be trusted to take penalties?? Roly, it seems to fall back on him.

First half we looked good till Dura went off then all downhill.

Disappointing all round.

I thought Lia was pretty good actually; though I don't expect him to start when A-Rod is fit again. The problem for me was the crosses from wide to our midgets in the middle/poor defending/WeeMac slowing play down far too often/Powell offering nothing up front.

I was a bit worried going into this season, purely because of our lack of CB cover - unfortunately that cost us in the last 65 minutes. If Dura is out for an extended period, lets hope this Fox fella turns out to be good.

I also don't think Ernie trusts Sarpong to be the man to take over Burns just yet. He needs more game time, and I think he needed a longer pre season with us. From what i've seen, I'm unconvinced he will be any better than Kenny C. But time will tell.

I thought the performance was okay. Our midfield was well on top but we lacked the quality in the final third to finish the chances. Newcastle didn't offer much but still came away with two well taken goals due to sloppy defence.

I have also been critical of McGlinchey. I just don't think he offers us enough in the final third. He just doesn't contribute by scoring goals and his occasional assists don't quite make up for it. It is also disappointing that all our imports are not starting the first game of the season. There still has to be question marks over the defence. I think we are all hoping that Durante is back soon.

Overall, we really should be beating Newcastle. They are predicted to get the spoon this season so dropping points to them at home isn't great. I think we showed enough in this game to suggest that we will create a lot of chances this year. Our attacking players like Roly should be a big handful for defences this year. We just need to make sure we finish enough.

Krishna to take next penalty, special move, runs past the ball, turns around, passes it to Roly who scores.

You're not wrong there. Guys like Chilavert, Schmeichel or the famous Rene Higuita were excellent penalty scorers and I do not see why Moss would be any worse than them. Even if he shot straight at the keeper I reckon the ball would still cross the line.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Forget the football for the moment the classic moment was our Fijian running to the sideline to get instruction from the Scotchman he then passed then onto the Dutchman.

Give Sarpong a bit more time he got himslf into some good positions and it was our inability or refusal to give him the ball early and at his feet as he was requesting it..

We did have some breaks but like we have done for ages there seems this need to hold it up and play it back instead of pushing on.Longest off season around and we still look like we have done buggar all on set piece play  Siggys header aside.

Newcastle hardly had the ball but kicked us into submission apparently Boogard now had the most reds in a league history, even more than the dirtiest player of all time.
