With 19 points, we are now one win away from beating last season's points tally for the entire season (21)
One thing I didn't like about last night was Kamau skinning Doyle/Cacace over and over again. That young lad has some wheels.
The Sheriff was great! He slotted right into the team and clicked with the rest of the team, smart player. One assist and outplayed the WSW defence withe a little one-two Burgess combination. You can't expect more.
Game was in parts very scrappy, but much, much better than against Adelaide. All goals where done with creativity, speed and individual skills. LOVE IT!
No-one let him take any penalties
Crikey that was good (was at match)..
A lot to work on as some pretty ordinary moments, but to get up and win it again ... superb.
Aside: Like the look of Cillian Sheridan
The best thing about Shepard Sheridan so far, is that he looks like far more than your typical one dimensional target man type striker. The feint to get past his marker and the inch perfect through ball to Krishna showed why he's spent a bit of time out wide as well as up front.
Eugene Dadi played for the Nix?!? Loved it when he played for Aberdeen, this love affair was meant to be
Excellent game to watch. When they got the 2nd I felt it although a draw was disappointing, it was a fair result; so to win in that manner - I'm over the moon. Certainly takes the cloud off the Perth game and will play a big piece towards the play offs

Ah, sorry mate, thought I read here somewhere that Fenton got his fifth.

True, and some refs are giving yellows for what should be only fouls

For every three (3) Yellow Cards thereafter, a Mandatory Match Suspension of one (1) A-League Match.
All the yellows we got last night were valid though, I know some are softer than others but I don't have any issues with ones we have picked up. Its now up to Rudan how he manages them and the players that are close
I'm hoping Sheridan can score one like that absolute thunderbastard that went over. Amazing power.

Roy's first goal - even if Janjetovic doesn't give it the Premature Pete, Roy is in against him clear 1v1 and I'd bet on the same result - ball in the back of the net. Great assist from Sheridan though, that was all class!
How composed was Fenton taking his goal too, he seems much more dangerous going forward and looks like his confidence this season just keeps on increasing.

The more Mark Rudan speaks, the more I like him. Honest, open and has a clear vision. He's a breath of fresh air at our club, and I hope he stays a long, long time.
You can see why the fans have bought into it. I just hope more casual fans buy into it too! I love it when he speaks to the press.
Attendance was 7288. Bad weather might have kept it down, but we don't look so bad in a relative sense.
8519 at the Newcastle vs Brisbane game
Crazy game.
Three good goals.
Three great away points on a short turnaround.
----
Struggled through midfield at times (allowing tired legs, Mandi out, oppositions now better targeting us).
Yet despite the lack of fluency for much of the time, defended well enough and had the character and the special sauce at A league level to create a win.
---
One moment really stood out for me as a bit special and meaningful for the club.
Fenton to Singh to Fenton, goal. Couple of class touches. Good vision, interplay and strength.
Two young, locally developed kiwi kids doing something special for the Nix. And the club having the patience and vision to support one of those guys through a difficult period.
Great to see.
That's how you build a club.

Sheridan looks like a great buy. Exciting to see the squad getting significantly better at this stage and exciting to think Rudan is still looking to strengthen.
I don't think it was necessarily a great performance, the game was very stop start and I was almost thankful for that because I thought the pacy Wanderers might have overrun us for while there if the game was more open and free flowing.
But the resilience of the team to come back and score again and again and steal that away win and those points was really something, Rudan really has done wonders and transformed the mentality of our team. Really good to see, really exciting stuff!
Yeah I agree. The performance was far from great, and WSW had match-ups that were really difficult for us, but they really failed to capitalise on them.
What was impressive is that that we were clinical whn presented with the opportunities late in the game, Krishna's first was not an easy finish despite Janjetivic's brain explosion, and for the second Krishna also deserves a lot of credit for attacking a ball from which he's not very likely to score hard, and getting the reward as a result of it.
Sheridan also looks a very good player, he added a completely new dimension to our attack when he came on, looking forward to seeing him in action on Saturday.
Another sensible Rudan press conference. Positive but not glossing over any failings or flaws he sees in the performance. One of his strengths, to me, is that he is creating a Team in the true sense of the word. And, in that over used word, a club culture. Something that had been missing for a considerable time. After several miserable seasons this one could well be a good 'un.
The train for the past few home games has seen a lot of empty seats but , come Saturday, I'm hoping for packed carriages as they were a few years ago. Standing rom only at times.
I think mistakes can be expected from players in this level of football at times.....but as long they are "Fully Commited" to quote Siggy, that's OK with me.

Can't overlook the fact that their two best players by a distance were both injured very early on and a third's off playing for Aussie
Is it just me, or have we actually scored?????
It sounds like you're following the NZ Knights!
BTW, you know you're really into the current season when you start watching the coach's post-game press conference, which I've just done.
Just when I was 100% confident with our keeper.
He's been great but guys will end up at the Phoenix for a reason
Name me one keeper in the league that hasn't stuffed up yet. Got to expect the odd error and we've all seen, possibly ignored, some shortcomings with the high ball.
100%
If we want Kurto to stay here, then ironically we will need him to make the occasional error like that, otherwise he's off to a better team/league!
Letting in a soft one in a game we ultimately win is the perfect scenario really hahahaha
Had a quick look at the AUS 442 website for this game thread and could not believe the crap there.
And now they hate Rudan as well.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

It makes me wonder if some people are football people. Either that, or they have short memories.
Sydney United was Mark's first senior club as a player. He made over 100 appearances over 2 stints (93-98 and 03-04); and took them to 2 premierships as a coach (13-16).
Sydney United was formed in 1958 as Sydney Croatia. They are a major force in the game in the absolute heart of Western Sydney.
Play the ball, not the man.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Come on. Fair go. It’s starting to rain at ANZ yet the attendants won’t let the fans move up and fill the many empty seats under cover. I know they have a job to do, but there’s 15min to go, how is it going to hurt. Lot of WSW fans left in disgust when turned away.

Also the way we've learned or trained- Maxie put in a great ball like that earlier in the year, but no one attacked it.
Anyone else think the punch in Rufers back should've been red? Irrespective of how piss weak it was, it was still violent conduct.

Can see both sides. On one hand, he’s getting punched, but on the other hand it was light.... Ugh. Could have gone any way.
Ok Never been impressed more (well in a long time) with anyone on debut as I was with Cillian Sheridan.
The touches, turns, runs ,on & off the ball movement were telling.
Looks very mobile for a tall guy.....Gotta be worth a longer term sign on for a few Kacillian or so (..mmm wonder how many zero's are in his Christian name?....Hope the Irish lad has a sense of humour as I think mispronunciation of his name irks him.

Last night’s game was undoubtedly a major step forward psychologically for the rising Phoenix 2018/19 edition.
However Mark Ruden has a number of major challenges ahead in the coming weeks. The first is in selection of the replacement players for Mandi and Rufer this week, then dealing with those that reach the 5 yellow cards in the coming weeks. El grapadura and JC mentioned this last night. We are yet to settle on a replacement pair who we can rely on and it’s been said many times before this is the least “deep” part of our current squad. To my mind these players must come from the existing squad and it would be a miracle and foolish if we asked an inexperienced player who had been training with the squad to step up, even for a few minutes.
Ruden has one chance this Saturday against CCM, to put these replacements to the test. I still have my doubts whether Kopa will cope-he needs to be able to play 90-110 minutes to prove to me he can still function id in those tough last 20 plus minutes. .
So maybe Willow is an option in one of these slots for the short term?? He’s got the legs and the ticker to make it happen. I don’t know about the other one for this week but he would work well with Rufer for the Victory game and beyond.
The other issue for Mr Ruden is to maintain the dogged determination to succeed, which he has successfully done so far, but he needs to ensure the players don’t become so ruthless they will try to win at any cost and are branded a dirty side. Not saying it will happening but……Being a hard team is one thing- being a dirty team is another. We all know the dishing out of yellow or red cards byf A-league officials is a lottery, so much care is required.
The third issue is that we have been blessed so far with only a few minor injury worries, a huge portion of which is a mix good luck and good management. (I can hear someone saying its good management of course.) This wont happen for the rest of the season so lets be prepared.
Pheonix supporters should be ready for a rough exciting few weeks with Victory, Sydney, Melbourne City, Perth in the coming 5 weeks or so . . Let supporters manage our own expectations as well.

Well, we have had a run of results, and even some good performances, that very few people would have predicted. It's been a great surprise. Kopcy has done things few expected, rufers been a beast, Fenton has done way better than expected, Taylor and Durante have been great well beyond anything I expected. Williams is doing his bit, and Sheridan was a very good looking debutant. Not saying we are brilliant, but compared to much of what's been dished up in previous years, this is extremely encouraging.

Woke up slightly early to catch the end of the game. Had to hold my excitement at the end with Krishna's goal since everyone else was sleeping. Good way to start the day.
