Was in the game Ernie pretty clear when he did it.Surprised coaching staff missed it.

Scan results through and Hernandez is out for ~6 weeks

Oh! for f**ks sake!!!!

The football gods really hate the Nix. What have we done to deserve this shit?  Carlos out until mid Feb.....

First Ifill and now Carlos...our two best attackers. I would be tempted to move Stein to the playmaking role and promote Boyd. Boyd looked OK as a sub and hopefully he can up his game for the whole 90. Hicks looks like he is struggling with the physicality of the A-league at the moment....I certainly don't think he could boss the game as a playmaker.

Surely Killen is a must now as an injury replacement....is he match fit? We basically have no depth left. Next thing will be Rufer on the bench and he hasn't played for months.

and what's your suggestion? Boyd is not exactly firing every game, yet to score a goal and just got called out by his captain in the press... You'd do a lot more for your own credibility (what little you have) if when laughing at others suggestions, you presented your own and then backed up why.

Kenny may not be a striker but he has experience and pace. He's not been a stunning success on the flank, maybe a move could help.

I think you'll see Bertos and Boxall on the bench with Leo to benefit with increased minutes cause he can play everywhere. Boyd would be another and I guess Ridenton with Italiano.

I'd also add that if we stick with the 4-3-1-2 that's won us the last two games then we need someone comfortable on the ball who can bring others into play in the central attacking mid role and Stein is clearly the best bet for that with Carlos and Ifill out. So you need another striker to replace Stein. Kenny's quicker than Brockie or Boyd which should help up front especially as we can expect counterattacking chances away against one of the leagues best teams

My biggest concern is that Boyd has not scored when he has had plenty of chances, mostly sharp admittedly, but some easy that should have gone in - that a good striker would have converted.  I reckon when he breaks his duck he will be good, but still better as an impact player for now.

I would have Hicks in the Carlos role for a start with Stein up front, and then drop Stein back later to feed the fresh legs

Good luck Ernie

This seems to be what Ernie is leaning towards.  Doesn't inspire me with any confidence both for Hicks in for Carlos and Stein and his in-sync partnership with Brockie.
I like Ryan's Rovers suggestion better.

Like Stein playing in midfield with Cunningham up front as suggested here, but looks like its Hicks with Ridenton on the bench. Though Ernie's statement this morning 'that he may go with one of the up and coming young players" I guess doesn't rule out Ridenton starting. Lot of high opinion in football around him, and interesting he's making matchday squads ahead of Rufer at this stage.

I think it's cause Rufer has only comeback into it because of school and exams. Ridenton has been in the mix a couple months longer

My suggestion would be to leave Brockie and Stein up front and replace Carlos with Hicks. WSW are a bloody well structured team and if you think having pace in our strikers is the way to beat them you are delusional. We need to keep possession, be patient, play the ball on the ground and take our chances. Brockie has to come right soon. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he scored tonight.

that's a far better response.

The only problem with Hicks that I have is that at local level, his distribution is good but has been found to be inconsistent at HAL. With him there, there is a danger of two strikers getting no ball. That's why Stein seems to be the popular choice to fill that role because previously, he has shown to be adept at it.

I don't think the Stein/Brockie combo has worked at all so far - Stein's scored in both our last games when Brockie's been off the park even. And I don't think Hicks has done enough so far to justify a start in that crucial role connecting the midfield and strikers. A lot of people have bagged Carlos on here and while it's true he hasn't set the world alight he has done a lot of good work keeping the ball, creating space, and finding teammates with nice passes in that pocket. I think Stein in that role would be the next best option we have, and I think if Hicks or anyone else plays in there and gets completely shut down then who we have as strikers is a moot point anyway because they're not going to get the ball, unless our FBs bomb down the wings and manage to get crosses in but that's just asking to get hit on the break by WSW.

Would be happy to be proved wrong about Hicks of course.

This
Very good point. Stein will do an OK job in Carlos's role...he's a;ready shown he can do it. At least with him there he will make play for Brockie and Kenny and Fenton overlapping. Young Hicks is a good prospect but I think he would get bossed out of that role by WSW....they are a very strong and well organised side. I can see why Ernie wants to leave Stein where he is because his goals have won us the last two games but if Hicks does not fire we will struggle.

Unfortunately I don't see this going well for us. WSW were very good last week. They have important quality players coming back. With Ifill and Carlos out, we are now very light on quality and experiance. We are in danger of exposing the lack of depth in our squad. Plus  our heavy travel and workload recently won't help. Not trying to be negative or defeatist but this game will really put some of our youngsters under the pump......how well they respond will decide if we can get at least a point.
