i concur with this even though people were screaming for the handball, it was ball to hand for me and play on. someone beside me said but he got the advantage by the ball hitting his hand and falling to his feet but i believe that means no free kick as he did not try to handle the ball it just hit him.

Correct. Gaining an advantage has nothing to do with it. There must be intent. And btw I was also screaming for Handball!

Still think his arms were up and it's not like the ball was struck at him with no time to react, it was poor judgment/technique that resulted in his arm controlling the ball.

Yup like most calls, it is judgement on the part of the ref and plenty would have called it.

Like all these things, the ref didn't call it so it didn't happen.

There is no such thing as accidental handball. It is either deliberate or it isn't handball.

Interpretations of handball have changed since that incident.

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:

  • the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
  • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
  • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an

    infringement

  • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.)

    counts as an infringement

  • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an

    infringement

Thanks.

My understanding was if band touches ball its penalty season.  Its the players job to ensure her\his hands aren't in the way.

But that makes more sense.

Thanks Bullion, I've always thought that awarding a penalty and giving Harry a red card for that incident was harsh - the shot on goal was so fast, he simply stood there and was hit by the ball. Yes it rolled off his arm / forearm, and it prevented a goal. But it was not deliberate, or in today's parlance, not a handball.

See what he's like with a full season under Ernie, Krishna's game developed. Although Appiah has been a pro for years and Popavic is no slouch in the coaching stakes so he probably won't become a revelation. Still a useful player to come on in the 80th minute and run at tiring defenders espeacially if they are commited to play out.

He has been a pro for 4 years now.  He came in for us in January last year so he has had a full year under Ernie. He is quick and he is Enthusiastic but beyond that???

Ernie is a good coach and would be as good as anyone at getting the best out of him, but to turn Appiah into a good A League player Ernie would need to wear a long robe, have a wand and be named Merlin.

Theory 1:

In his few appearances earlier in the season, physically he looked quite big - doing lots of weights. IIRC James Dean described him as a "beast" in preseason. This surprised me because my memory of him at WSW he was rather skeletal. Those earlier games this year, to me, he looked slow and laboured (too much bulk?)

Last game he showed pace and made me think managment or personally he had changed his preparation (more cardio, less weights?)

A fan is a fan.

Thought he put more pressure on them than Sarpong and given we arnt getting anyone else and Roy is out for so long,on yesterdays effort i would prefer he be given a go than Sarpong. Not sure what Ifill has to do with it but those rose colored glasses are good because yes he MAY have scored but it  would have been no certainty. Yep he scored plenty but he could blaze them just like others.

for the second time this season ticketek have sold my stand in the fever zone, this has not really been a problem as the people were happy to move when i showed them my season pass. but the question remains how can my stand be sold if it is a season ticket ?

phoned the phoenix hotline and talked to brenda who started by saying that your seat could not be sold on their system because it is held for every match and therefor cannot be sold. after i had told her this was not the first time this has happened she said if it happened again to ask the person for the transaction number of there ticket and then they can work out what is happening within their system to allow it to happen.

if you are the person who had the ticket to my stand on sunday could you either post the transaction number here or contact brenda at ticketek so hopefully she can sort this out.

Great game Phoenix - TAB would have loved it - most punters had it for Brisbane around 3-1

However,

two far post runs by the striker to support McGlinchley and one for Powell may have lead to goals.

With a 4-3-3 formation - one of the strikers should be running the far post every cross. @basicfootball.com.

Next time a tap in.

Sometimes a game just works for me. Yesterday was one of those times. I got so involved!!

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

A fun night in the zone. Highlights: Mossy's saves, Ridenton's backheel save, booing North and him giving us a wave to acknowledge it, Fox's work, Dura's leadership of that whole back four, Powell's running, Lia & Riera keeping their classy midfield at bay, Appiah pressurizing them into mistakes, Mikey making things happen. A good night and a pleasing result.

This actually happened when we played CCM a week ago, except I think it was Ridenton (?) and not mcGlinchey who crossed into the box for a Powell tap-in.

Agreed, I hoped he would choose to direct his header sharp to the ground for a bounce if he could not get it directly at the goal.

Agreed, but I would take the cold (Appiah) based on the speed.

In contrast, the flu (Sarpong) just lingers there, with prospects for improvement more distant than with the cold.

A cold is nothing but influenza is a serious illness.

Bored  --  It's important to know the difference between flu and coldsymptoms. A cold is a milder respiratory illness than the flu. Whilecold symptoms can make you feel bad for a few days, flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill for a few days to weeks. The flu can also result in serious health problems such as pneumonia and hospitalizations.

I would rather Sarpong than a marathon runner. At least with a decent footballer he may create/take a chance that wins a game.

He has only looked like doing that a couple of times with way more minutes than Appiah. Sarpong really doesn't seem to want to be here, when we were playing Adelaide he just needed to run at Hall to force an error, Hall looked really shaky. Everyone in the front line was putting pressure on him except Sarpong. He just wasn't involved in the press, just didn't look interested. All Sarpong needed to do was have a little bit of intent and he would have been getting into good positions to score, but he just didn't look like he cared apart from that one shot that came off the post. If the ball comes to him, he'll have a go but he's not trying to create anything, not chasing anything.

At least Appiah seems to care and wants to create something. Even if its just madly running at defence and putting them into a panic. That is contributing more than what Sarpong manages to do.

I wont' say that I'm advocating for Apiah to start, I think he's probably good to have off teh bench running at tired defenders. But I don't think Sarpong is a starting player either. We need a new striker in this window.
