Soft penalty

Petratos pulled our guy's shirt right in front of the ref first half, ref just waved it on.

Did you notice our throw that was blown out by the wind and given as a foul throw. Then when the Jets did exactly the same thing it was a retake?

Really confused by this comment. The position of the player, and the way in which they release the ball define a foul throw (if play is restarted). If whole ball crosses the line, play restarts. If it never crosses the line completely, play doesn't restart

The wind can't make it a foul throw

Well it sure looked like both throws were the same and there was a different outcome. Perhaps I need to watch it again.

You're not going to be able to tell if all the ball crosses the line or not from that angle. Might be difficult to see feet of nix hrower as well.

Well done team. Win next week we could land up 7th with a game in hand.

This season may have a happy ending yet.

I think it may have been the pisstakingly large distance up the line he went.

Ah right, that could be it. I only saw the throw and not where the ball when out. Probably getting a beer or something. To be fair though I think the team played with a lot of heart and a good game plan. Jets largely looked crap because we were forcing them to play backwards. Ernie said before the game that we were going to thrash someone and he didnt want it to be his team. Well we beat them 3-2 and I dont think we have clicked yet. Waiting for that day and it will be glorious!

Genuinely depressing reading the lack of understanding of the laws and their application.

Have a read of this  and try and understand how refs apply the laws in the context of the game

http://www.swosoa.com/index.php/en/referee-article...

You might want to take your own advice - "Fouls that do not have an impact on the ability of a player to play the ball should not be called".

There is no way Rossi putting his hand on the jets player impacted his ability to run and/or shoot.

Plus every single corner in every single game has worse shirt pulling than that.

Pulling a player back by the shirt who is through on goal impacts their ability to play the ball in a significant moment of opportunity.

You do get why these are called the dark arts by players, right? Doesn't make them legal

Boogard or someone didn't get a yellow for the pull back on Krishna. Clear pro foul. Last player,  but not clear goal scoring opportunity.

Sure, but if you do it in the box with the attacker in behind you, you are asking for trouble.  And because it's in front of goal you don't give the ref a lot of options.

Gillet always seems to be inconsistent.  He gave a lot of soft or non-fouls and didn't give some clear ones.  Just as well ee got that 3rd goal

What a great team effort, fox saying humidity was high and it certainly looked hard work for both teams. Lot of knackered footballers.

If Rossi can be retrospectively banned for hand relief then it's probably fair enough

It brings the game into disrepute that sort of thing

Italiano had the type of game we expect of him. Let's hope he has turned the corner and turns into a decent keeper for us. The much maligned McGlinchey also played better than we've seen for a while, is it a positional thing with him? He always plays better when one of the other midfielders is away and he has to play a different role to the one he is usually selected for. And Valeo is the new Steve-O, what a sad sack.....

Right you are, Rossi with his 5th yellow, banned for ADL match. Dura with just 2 yellows this season

Italiano will need to have the game of his life.

Ridenton is not really a DM. WeeMac certainly isn't. Ljujic isn't here for his defending. Rossi and Dura are probably the slowest CB combo in the league against the quickest attack. Mullen isn't a RB.

Goals galore incoming

agreed  with all of this pre-game - post game I was quite impressed with Ridenton at DM, he did very little with the ball but for large parts of the game he shut down the jets front men pretty well.

Pleasantly surprising performance and result. Great to see Lewis bounce back from a shaky fortnight or so. Probably WeeMac's best game of the season, even if he missed a couple of fairly easy chances. Ridenton bid well to mark Patratos out of the game. Dura seems to found his groove the last couple of weeks. Krishna immense again. Burns seemed a little quiet despite setting Krishna up for the third goal.

The positive  is we are not loosing games with the new setup of players, if continue with this performances, the season getting excitingly better. But to make the finals we still need to be better but I think we are not peaking yet. The last three games is good for the confidence. I also like how the coach adjusting the tactics for each game. Bring on Adelaide!

Not only a good win, but it was full of promise, which we haven't had hat much of this season. Diabolical second goal given up, but I'm a much happier man today!

The fight for 6 is very much alive now.

100% a realistic goal. Obviously we have to play well, but it's completely in our hands.

With Rossi out next week, which will be good to rest him. Here's hoping one of Mullen or Fox is fit for next week.

Our attack is quality, will welcome back Goran and move one of burns/Ljujic/weemac to the bench. This will make our bench strong too.

I love Kalu9, he actually passes the ball quite well, seems to always make the right decision. Shame he didn't score but i think it's great we've been getting these results without him even on the scoresheet!

Next week is huge. Fatigue could be a factor. I'd even be ok with a draw just to keep chipping points in, but a very winnable match!

Fire up

I got $100 on at 5.01 and another $100 on at 5.37. Offshore though - TAB is terrible

Nice. TAB are actually a terrible choice when you have Bet365 etc.. Bet365 just sent me an email saying if you bet for a team to win in the PL or Champions league and they go 2 up at anytime, You get paid out for the win there and then regardless of the final score. Until the end of the season I believe.

What a nightmare reading through the thread on Sunday morning and not knowing the result. Phew, what a relief to read those three words.

I did feel OK, just OK, with the prior, "Italiano MOM" one,  but that could've still meant we got pipped, again.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

When it's the next day, and you're nervously flicking through the thread not knowing the score, this is a great post! Especially when the tone was quite negative up until then, and throughout, in such an important game too.

I felt like I was flicking through to our season's end until that.

The crazy thing about the negativity on this forum last night is for good chunks of the game we were two goals up and on the ascendancy, were never behind, and had a pretty solid defence for the last couple of games.

I just don't understand it.

I think prior to our first goal we were looking shaky in defense but from then on gained the ascendancy. I have often complained about the negativity in match-day threads but I've come to the conclusion that the majority of the nay sayers know fudge all about football, despite how vehement they can be in trying to prove otherwise. There are some people that can be critical and back it up, and those are the people that I listen to most if i have missed seeing a game myself. Generally a posters behaviour outside of game day threads is a good indicator of what they dish up on game day.

When a player's playing perfectly "He's too good for us, he'll be gone elsewhere soon"

I couldn't watch the game - it was my wife's birthday and an error at the restaurant with our booking meant we got home too late. I kept nervously checking the HAL website commentary under the table whenever she talked to a waiter. I think we were both happy with our night out in the end.

Did you watch the game, mate ? There was a reason Italiano was MoM. We held on in the first and barely hung on in the 2nd

Overall a good performance against a more confident side, but lets not prefend our defence isn't still a sieve.

The general negativity may come from being bottom of the damn table. Just a guess.
