So Gulley isn't even on the list?

Golec straight into squad

Gulley has been playing regularly. Golec has not due to injury recovery. Strange call to me. Still two to be omitted.

Starting back line will be interesting without Dura.

So Gulley isn't even on the list?

Noticed that when the team came through via nix twitter. What's the deal there?! Surely he'll be the fitter of the two?

Golec straight into squad

Still two to be omitted. Might just be about him travelling with the team and getting to know them, rather than leaving him behind in Wgtn.

Playing away to Perth, when choosing between two brand new players to the squad, if one was needed to play I'd rather it was Golec given his experience in the league. May be a different answer after a few weeks though.

6 CBs in there, counting Kopa. My guess:

Doyle, Taylor and Golec start - Doyle L, Taylor centre, Golec R.

Lowry on the bench - CB and RWB cover.

Kopa on the bench - DM cover. Fresh legs.

Fox omitted (Lowry preferred as provides RWB cover). Burns omitted too.

Possibly to do with CB needing cover, and with Golec being possibly more likely to be familiar with Perth players (after playing for CCM) than Gulley?  Can't think of any other reasoning though.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Gulley has trained with the club at different points during the season, Golec has only had 1-2 days. This will be a case of getting Golec bedded into the squad cuz they are probably gonna stay in Sydney rather than return to NZ cuz the Jets game is on Thursday next week. Having him stay behind and train by himself isn't the best way to welcome a new person into the team. Gulley is already one of the guys.

Rufer has become such a key player, that we are now putting his name in lower case hoping that the other team doesn't notice he's there! That Rudan, eh - crafty cod!

I know, I know, its serious!

No one seems to have picked it up yet, but congratulations are in order for Louis Fenton who is set to make his 100th A-league appearance for the Nix! Great to see him come back into the fold and become a regular first XI player after such a wretched couple of years, well done lad!

I still remember his debut, scoring a bullet header and played in midfield - his best position.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Given Dura's yellow on Saturday - given the fixture list - would not surprise me to see something similar from Taylor in Perth.  Dura comes back in while Taylor rests then both back in game after that

Taylor is only on 3 yellows.

So if Taylor gets 2 yellows and gets a red, does that mean he sits out a game for the red and has also done a game for 5 yellows?

Taylor is on 4 yellows. But under your scenario, the two yellows wouldn't count, just the red. The yellow count would remain as what he entered the game with.

willl there be a podcast out before the match? At the risk of sounding like an ungreatful Phoenix city fan, heaps of the pods are coming  out on game day at the moment- makes it tricky to listen before the game. Anyway, love your work Patrick and co!

I mean they've done a pretty good job containing him in Cuba for the last few decades so not too worried

Not feeling it today.  Another game last week we were lucky to get 3 points from. We really struggle once teams start pushing forward and Fenton and Cacace have to drop back. Without Durante have a feeling they not going to be able to get forward as much. Picking 3-1 to Glory.

Is it too early to start drinking? These midnight kickoffs can be dangerous.

Not too hot for a summer day in Perth today, about 23 degrees at the moment and no hotter for kick off.

LOL was thinking the same but decided in the end the Moscow Mule might be best put on hold for the moment.

Good omens in Gosford as CCM lead Victory by 2-0 at the break?

Feels to me like we're due to stick a complete performance, while Glory are surely due a shocker.

2-0 to us.

There's a few things more important than the actual  footy.

I hope both us and the Glory have a 'Save Hakeem' banner.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.
