Wish we had Australian coverage post-match, they'd be blowing up over the decisions, meanwhile nobody on this NZ coverage knows the handball rule.

Slater and co know nothing about the new handball rule. Hasn't even been mentioned well into the wrap up.

dont think they are playing under 2020-2021 laws as the season started before 1 june.
We do locally as our winter season started after that.

scratch that. The handball law change came in 2019-20

McCowatt was doing okay? Seemed to have bulked up a bit.

What do we think about Louis?

Thought Louis played well. First game after along injury lay off. Good options now at RB.

Thought McCowatt did well, certainly looked to offer more than Sotirio. Fenton was impressive, still can't cross but (solely based on that one game) he's a better player in the right FB position than Payne, good to see him back. Was really worried he'd do his shoulder again with the amount of slipping over though.

Yeh, Payne had 3 assists. That means goals from good passes.

Louis had a good start and did well defensively. I wonder if he could be used further forward too if Payne gets brought back.

Anyway good to have the competition. I think with Louis the strikers have to look more for flat fast balls near post or cut backs, from the byline, rather than something aerial.

Hooper's offside was a marginal call and we still never got the best angle on TV. I can't get annoyed about a wrong call being made if there isn't much in it.

I think people are making too much of the refereeing decisions. We would have won if Marinovic hasn't made that poor decision and if Davila had controlled the ball better. At the end of the day, you can't control the referees. You can control what you do out there on the field and we let ourselves down at a few moments. I also thought Sydney were a bit more incisive than us in the front third but then again they do have Ninkovic. We got some nice crosses in but we weren't going to play the ball through them.

I thought that was McCowatts best game for us in a long time. Seemed to be a bit more direct and with better control.

I was pleasantly surprised by Fenton and how well he did considering how long it has been for him between competitive games. I thought he did very well on D, especially with some of his defensive headers when dangerous balls were knocked in.

Rufer to alright too IMO, but I think he will drop to the bench next week.

Surely he's secured a starting spot for the next game. Thought he was very good overall. I noticed that compared to pre-injury Fenton he seems to have recovered some upper body flexibility that's been missing in recent years.

Was he previously wearing a lot of strapping to secure his vulnerable shoulders or has he just simply lost some bulk? Either way he seemed slimmer, more agile and was able to feint his way past players in a way that he's not been able to for a long time. And as always he's got a fantastic engine.

I also liked Louie's shift against SydFC but reckon he was a bit tentative because of the rain and not wanting to risk things too early.. I look forward to seeing him on a dry surface.

His flat passes were pretty accurate. Apart from his usual preference for cutting back, some of it may have been due to the crowded box with Syd defence all over Ball and Sotirio, and Louie not wanting to be caught out too far forward. Sydney were fast on the counter and that might have played on his mind more than it does for say Cacace.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

This result was expected since we played our reserve side in the 1st half. We are deff out of the top 6 by August.

We were winning with the first half team!

Agreed.  The way I saw it, taking off Piscopo was the turning point.

I wonder about the 87th minute substitution of Steinmann for Wilson.  If Steinmann is still on the pitch does Davillas make the same pass? or is Steinmann more naturally in a better position to break up the counter?

exactly what I thought. For what it's worth, I felt Steinmann was our MOTM that day and i pray he stays
