Don't really agree with that - Riera has been a big loss, but the rest? We haven't had Ifill for a full season for a while now, and he showed clear signs of slowing down this season anyway. Fenton, Caira, Shermy, Leo - unlucky to have had so many injuries at fullback, but really stretching it to say that a combination of two of those playing out the full season would have made the results significantly different for us.
Plus to be competitive in any league you need to have squad depth, something that was brutally exposed for us the last couple of years.

and why couldn't Adelaide have kicked the ball into touch for us to have a throw where Timmins kicked it out?

What did everyone think of Timmins?

Thought he was very good, aside from wishing he hadn't played the ball out when the Adelaide player went down.

Was quite nice going forward, seems to have a good feel for things, could be quite solid with a bit more experience.

Started poorly but looked better as the match went on, I thought. Not bad, but not great either

Highlight of the game for me was that little kid dressed as what I assume was an ant dancing with the Nixie Chicks.

Easily the highlight for everyone I think.

Unfortunately Lia and Manny could have been some of the ones  in those.

Effort was there were the 1st half, second half we never really showed. Apart from Adelaide diving all over the place, they looked the better side, had time on the ball, used space and made decent runs. Seemed to out number our guys all over the park and still had players out wide to pass to. Oh well there is always next season.....

Hope Perth lose tonight, would hate to get the spoon again, cant really see us getting any points from the next two games.

Another aspect to note, the donut sellers are actually quite cute (but also quite young).  Still not enough to make me part with $5.

First half, a few misplaced passes, but still confident on ball, most important for me was to keep the winger off the scoresheet - job done. Second half, much better, I too like the way he goes forward with confidence, he also has the ability to take players on with ease and generally his passing is spot on, (would be good to see his stats). again main thing for me was keeping the winger at bay - the winger was subbed - job done. Still kept the new winger off the score sheet too which was a bonus. I think with the right player in front of him he would cause problems. Hopefully get to see him with a full pre-season under his belt as we have only seen a glimpse of him, IMO he does offer something different to the squad. Ernie needs to be cute as I think theres a few sides who could make use of his talents.

Who were we playing against when Bertos was knocked out in the penalty box? They refused to kick the ball out and kept trying to get a goal over the unconcious Bertos for a couple of minutes.

Do we have a squad that can compete to win a Premiership?  No, we have a squad that can compete in the dogfight from 4th-8th for the last few playoff spots if we are (relatively) injury free.  I have higher hopes.

Fact is, it;s the A-League. No one has deep squads. The biggest difference is the fact we have no reserve team to call upon which Ernie currently has little to no control over.

Every team in the A-League has duds in their squad that fill the space. When most of our squad is fit, I think we have a team that can compete with anyone and we did so in the middle of the season when we went on a run without a major season ending injury.

Some squads are deeper than others though, Western Sydney and Brisbane come to mind. Look at Central Coast - Championship winning team almost completely decimated, and still in the hunt for a top two spot this season.

We have one important player go down with injury, and suddenly don't look like winning another game until the next season.

We need more quality regardless. Other than Fenton who was a bit up and down, Ifill who was not playing a lot anyway, then the only 'mainstay' missing is Riera, and he was a part-timer at the start of the season!

Hernandez has been in and out but I don't think injuries should have been as big a problem as they have been.

I know Ernie has just put the issue back in the spotlight but it is a constant source of frustration for me to see what a significant disadvantage we are at by not having a youth team. Season failure is generally a combination of all sorts of factors but this one thing is definitely having a long term influence on us.

What pissed me off about that, is that instead of throwing it back to us, they kick the ball back over the half way line. I'm surprised that didn't piss more people off. Surely they should be playing it back to us in a similar position to where we kicked the ball out.

Anyway, season over. I think we tried hard, but our squad is just not good enough.

We lack a real rival, but based on various dick things they have done I'm really starting to hate Adelaide.

Where have you ever seen any team not knock the ball as far away as possible. That is the smart thing to do.

He did the gentlemanly thing..then got a  bollocking from Dura!

Game lost as soon as Brockie and Heysegems were paired together.  Yawning midfield..stoic defending and stuff all shots.

I agree. Seem to remember making similar comment months ago about Brockie and getting bagged for it.

He should have got a bollocking. And I hope Ernie tears him a new one as well. We were playing for our season FFS. He should only have kicked it out if he'd seen bone sticking out.

Apparently the Nix had a chat about kicking the ball out for injuries and decided that they weren't going to do it. This was a month ago though, before Timmins was signed, so he wasn't there.

There or not, even any part timer would know that the fullback hit the deck for other reasons other than injury.

There's no requirement for any team to kick the ball out, it's not classed as Unsporting Behaviour in the eye of the Laws of the Game.

I do know that, but almost all teams seem to do it now. EPL included. Imagine  the crap we would get if we were the only side in the A League that continued playing. on.

Am I wrong that there is mathematically still a chance we can make the top 6?

Of course we need to have Glory beat the Jets, we beat Sydney (possible) next week while the jets need to go down to Victree (possible), have the Jets then lose to Adelaide (likely), the Glory then again pull out a stunner and beat Sydney, while we romp home against Victory (nothing to lose!).

And so ends my clutching at straws. Highly unlikely I know, but can you imagine...

When the fullback goes down like that with barely a touch, why is any different to a striker being booked for simulation? We saw it when that prick handled the ball off the line a couple of weeks ago then went down clutching his face...

The whole season was destroyed by the injuries to key players. Nothing more! (Can't blame the shit 0fficiating for all of it but it cut deep) #Steineken for ever! (#FFA would look good on our  kit)

Maybe I'm mad, but I still want to believe that however slim the chances are, we still could make the playoffs. Once there it all starts over. One week at a time.

And even if we don't make it, that won't stop me backing the team. Next season with the players that have grown this year, and with Ernie at the helm, it'll be a great season.

I felt really sorry for timmins when Durante was ripping him apart.

It was unfortunate the ADL player injured himself diving

For my 2 cents worth.

Today I started off with a Fritz Sausage, followed it up with a stadium beef burger which had crisp fresh lettuce, fresh tomato, a bun from a fridge as it was very cold and a kind of meat pattie. Thus far I have had no side effects. I have to say, it was fresh an edible.

The football was crappy and not helped with over 40 free kicks given. Admittedly, our players had a lot to do with giving away so many.

Great to see the Red Army banner and tbeir few fans that showed. Well done to the man in the red suit. The zone was quiet today and this was the same around the ground. Ive mentioned my own actions in the crowds thread.

Perhaps our squad is getting too old. I dont know. But if Stein is hanging out in the shop window, his last few games will not enhance his reputation. Ever since that came out in the press, he's been as quiet as Brockie in the goalscoring department.

Once again the prematch giveaway was applied to aisles 21 to 25 inclusive, no one else exists. Onece again that stupid fucken birdie song was what we got for entertainment. FFS bring back the Brazilian drummers. Once again the music was too fucken loud. I have sent these comments in a more condusive form in a reply to the Phoenix admin after receiving their email tonight.

Highlight for me this afternoon was the fact that that retard with the microphone only ever hangs around aisles 22 to 25 before the games. Best seats in the house? My arse. On a hot sunny day you cook over where those lazy boy chairs are.

Yet, I will be in my usual seat hoping we again tonk the Victory 5-0 to finish off our season.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
