I wonder how many divits will be left to help make the ball bobble rather than run smooth. I wonder how many players from both teams are gonna get injured as a result?

So will our flags be allowed in or, with them having being seen in Newy, are they banned for bringing back horrendous memories and causing morale to drop?! (Personally my morale dropped for 45 mins but then we were back in the Tenzo - crack on with Jardel!)

WTF is going on in the back rooms of our club......?! Our Aussie mates always have been and always will be welcome in Welly - banners included....

Agree in principle. However I believe the issue is with the massive banner they put on the seats at Eden park. The Huawei and nix signs are already up on seats around that area, so there probably isn't enough space for it.
As for whoever UUU Reds spoke to on the phone....it must have been there first day or something, "low morale" was a strange reason to give indeed.

One slight reason to have hope is that I don't think league is as bad on the turf as rugby because it doesn't have the same sort of competitive driving scrums, and all the rucks etc in rugby seem like they'd create a lot more divots than league tackles and play-the-balls. Still don't think it'll be great after three matches though. Anyone go to the Worriers last night or see it on tv? Did the pitch look f*cked by the end?

Why dont they run a light/medium weight roller over the pitch, that would surely flatten it out a bit, or dont turf technicians do that sort of thing ???

Why dont they run a light/medium weight roller over the pitch, that would surely flatten it out a bit, or dont turf technicians do that sort of thing ???

Yeah you're right saying that rugby can/does generally do more damage than league but in league you tend to get the odd deep-ish knee/heel/elbow hole from players coming down hard in a tackle. These are usually forked out and/or filled with sand.

They have a roller at westpac but it wouldn't really achieve a lot. Even though the league causes a little bit of damage it doesn't make the surface bumpy enough to justify rolling it. It will still be pretty smooth after all the divots are fixed. The only time they use that roller is to try speed up the outfield for cricket. It compacts the profile which effects the drainage so it's very rarely used.

The mowers have rollers on the units so it kind of acts like a light/medium roller in a way and if the opperator feels any bumpy areas while he mows they will repair it.

The Sky TV league commentators were just saying how good the surface is looking which isn't a surprise. It's always in it's best nick 6+ weeks after it's renovated. When the Nix played on it last it was just after the renovation and the surface would have been fairly shifty under foot hence the damage that was caused by the rugby before the Nix game.

IMO I wouldn't worry too much about the pitch. It looks (and should be) miles better than it was a few weeks ago. That coupled with the attention gained from the injury Josh BS suffered + Merrick and co's comments, I'm guessing they'll be pretty keen to make sure it's in top nick this time and will be doing whatever is required between the end of the league and the Nix game tomorrow.

Fuck this stupid game

Surely these things can be preplanned to avoid having a ruined pitch to play on?
I am almost tempted to organise a mass migration to Petone just to get a dedicated football stadium where we dictate who plays first.

If the club continues to want Sunday games, that will always leave an open slot on the Fri & Sat for Union & League to slot in after our draw is made. The turf looked like it should cope, no rain and has recovered from that weed kill off that affected the last game here.

And at least its not the original 7pm kick off tonight! We can thank the Warriors for that.
