Okay. Just got home and read 189 posts.

We have not played that well, and had that complete a team performance for AGES.

I cannot believe that no one, NO ONE mentioned Tom Doyle's AMAZING goal saving tackle immediately before half time. It was incredible.

The highlight for today was from about 65 - 85 minutes where our midfield were immense. Totally dominant. Even when they did cough up possession, and yes, they did do that a few times, Newcastle put 1, 2 and occasionally three passes together before we took it back. The tackling, and the pressure we were exerting as a collective midfield unit was amazing. Anyone who is mildly disappointed in Alex Rodriguez is missing the point I think. On defence the back 4 had a 3 person unit Roly - Reira - Rodriquez in front of them, and the three of them moved and single cohesive three headed beast. It was an awesome performance. I talked to the players at Bethel Woods about this and they ALL said that that is one of the things Ernie has had them working REALLY hard on in the last two weeks - hunting the ball collectively so that the two players pressuring the ball carrier are backed up by people pressuring their outlet options. It was really really good today, ESPECIALLY in the middle of the second half.

Burns was fantastic. His speech at Bethel Woods collecting man of the match was awesome. He blamed the Yellow Fever for the miss when the guy picked his pocket just as he was about to shoot. He said the Yellow Fever were too loud, and he couldn't here the guy approaching from behind, so it was the Fever's fault he didn't get the hatrick. Brilliant stuff. Everyone laughed.

The band played The Proclaimers 500 miles, and Roly got up and was dancing with the fans in front of the stage as we belted out Bonevacia - Bonevacia!

I have to say I violently disagree with the Brockie baggers here today. I thought he had an immense game. Sure it would be lovely if he had banged a goal (or two in). But he worked his arse off, and was VERY well involved in the creation of a lot of our chances. He got an assist, and I think he had his best game of the season so far.

Manny had his best game of the season. Durra and Siggy both had good games - it was a shame we coughed up a goal because I think they deserved the lift from a clean sheet. I had a good chat with Tom Doyle, and I asked him if he was enjoying it. He didn't hesitate, and said "Just LOVING it mate." He said he's learning so much. He said he knew he'd been making mistakes, but he was very aware that he's only had 3 A League games, and he's really eager to build his experience and keep improving. When he pulled off that wonder tackle just before half time both Siggy, Durra, Manny and Reira were all there slapping him on the back and congratulating him as they walked off.

We scored 4 goals today, and we could genuinely have had 6 or 7. We are creating A LOT of chances. That is fantastic. Burns, Wee Mac and Brockie are really working well together.

Big game next week, but 6 points after three games (a new club record after three games) and with two wins on the trot we couldn't be better prepped for the visit to the Tards. I will be jumping up and down if we can take a point away from Melbourne. 3 would be dreamland.

The vibe in the Fever Zone today was bloody amazing. It was going off. We handed out 200 chant sheets and people LOVED them. People were getting up out of the seats in Aisle 23 and 20 and walking over and asking for them. A number of them commented "Oh yeah! That's a fantastic idea! Thank you so much!" The chant sheets, despite how some people feel about them were very very popular. and they worked.

The WE ARE HERE TO STAY chant when the banner was up keyed that it was going to be very very special.

It's been a special special week.

I think he's being harshly judged because he's not doing anything flashy but he is doign something hugely important.  He's providing a hub and an outlet for Riera and the backs and recycling it, often with a simple pass.  He's the reason we are holding possession in midfield because he's nearly always available for a pass and able to make one after collections.

Riera is more noticeable as he's often in the backline collecting the ball, and Roly more prominent as he's further forward and looking to play an attacking ball.  Rodriguez is what connects the two.  He's making interceptions and maintaining possession which gives a chance for everyone else to do the more visible things.

I'm not remotely disappointed in him.

Also in the Football United tour he seemed to be further forward making runs, through balls and finishing goals, so compared to that he looks quiet. But also a great freekick for Dura's goal.

What was the Lia for Brockie sub???   When you are 3-0 and in control it seemed like a chance to give another attacker a run.

Yet pretty much straight away after Lia came on he put a through ball through for McG's goal.

I thought the Banner at the kickoff, delivered a good honest message. It was commented on the radio too. That Leach Veitch  was stirring it up just after lunch on the radio about our poor crowds and how he wants a "New Zealand Phoenix", not a "Wellington Phoenix" and that we should play half our games in Auckland because they get better crowds up there.

Then he interviewed Piney and Chotey and as Jason pointed out, they get a decent crowd for the novelty factor and a rarity of a game.

I reckon it is like when the Warriors play a game down here. Novelty factor and a big crowd.

Veitch is an opinionated clown at best and I reckon he was stirring it up to actually get some Wellington fans to ring up and have a go, but no one could be fucked which in a way was a good thing. It left just his Auckland listeners to keep him company.

Radiosport are always dangling the bait for bites when it comes to football .For most problems in football they talk to the likes of Danny Hay who knows jack shit. I always want to ring in and give Devlin , Watson or Veitch a serve for being disconnected jafas with no idea (or facts) but don't want to do it from work but I've got Tuesday morning of work so will be listening to Marty Devlins show phone in hand so when he no doubt talks shit about the phoenix I can give him a massive earbashing.

Great win and really enjoyable performance. Burns and McGlinchey ran the show again and defence was pretty solid. Roly is getting better with each game. Thought he was poor the first week but he's now looking very solid and composed on the ball. Rodriguez was better today I felt although did give the ball away a bit cheaply at times. Shame Burns didn't get the hatrick, just didn't realise the defender was right behind him. He could do with being a bit more composed with those one on ones though to be a bit critical, but I'm sure it will come.

Noise from the Fever zone sounded good in Aisle 24 and there was decent participation in the familiar chants around us too.

Also something felt a bit special about it being our first game with our membership cards and scarves etc. Also picked up a cap each with our discount at Ryos on the way and had one of those Huawei NixPix photos by the stadium entrance.

Man what a game, the only thing I didn't like about yesterday was the cold. Made the mistake of only wearing my shirt as that has my name on the back and I thought it would help at the pub when I was talking to people.

But that performance was a great watch, so hard to pick man of the match but it did have to be between Burns and Roly for me. Burns so unlucky not to get the hat trick. Very happy for our Ronald McDonald Family that was the game they got to see, they were up in the Nix Lounge so would have got to hear Yellow Fever nice and loud.

Aftermath function at Bethel was pumping, so good to be there with everyone buzzing from the win and not having to go to work the next day.

Lastly the Avenue was great fun and we took over the dance floor, I've got no voice today and I don't regret a thing!

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

This is fair, but we still need to see if he's capable of a bit more than just short, simple predominantly sideways passes around the half way mark.  Better teams will start to focus on Bonavacia and McGlinchey as our attacking threats and shut them down, when that happens we need someone in the midfield capable of making penetrative passes and that's not something we've seen from him yet.  The more attacking options we have in midfield the better a side we'll be, more flexible with better balance.  I'd like to see, when we get further down the track in the season, him getting on the ball and rather than just keeping possession looking for some more incisve passes or starting to link up with Burns.

Burns was sensational on Sunday though, that combination with McGlinchey - high quality stuff.  The young kiwis outside the squad should watch and learn, that's what Tyler Boyd is capable of in the next couple of years I think if he keeps working hard

Then click on the Chants, Music, Angst and Anthems board header. See the highlighted bit in the screenshot below.

Then scroll down to the Twist and Shout thread. It's currently the tenth one down on the first page.

There's no way anyone in NZ gets 8 plus years for assault, let alone someone without prior convictions, let alone actually serving all that time.

I can't make people like Veitch but if you want a host who gives football a fair go then look no further than him.
