To me it's bleeding obvious Welnix have to sign a marqee striker if this season isn't going to replicate the last 2. Anyone else?

Is timing of goals really an attribute for a striker? A goal is a goal.

The goal in a 1-0 is worth more than the 5th in a 5-0 win.  It's about temperament, dealing with pressure etc

Agreed, and it's not actually about a marquee at all, just a quality player in that position.

What about Emille Heskey...he's the size of a marquee?

7 goals in 4 games is good enough so far.  We are going to be reliant on Burns and McGlinchey to keep banging them in though.

even if this wasn't a joke, we can't have him - he has gone home to become a brand ambassador at Leicester City FC.

Fenton to persist or Boxall to step up?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

No point changing the backline again.

Doyle being out is a big blow for mine - I thought we weren't balanced down that left hand side at all which made it difficult to get the ball forward properly.

But that's the tactical approach we adopt in the way we set-up fullbacks in general - one is always more attacking than the other, don't know why it's being complained about now?

Not sure manny has the same effect. He seemed to have to cut in and look for an inside option being a right footer, which left mcglinchey a little isolated. Maybe I'm dreaming though and his foot has no impact hah

Last season having a more defensive, right footed fullback on the left worked as Kenny was very attacking on the left side of the midfield three, and unlike WeeMac relied more on being released with the ball in space ahead of him.

Because perhaps our best player is playing left wing and he got shocking service from Muscat.

Fenton is actually left footed right?  Why do we play him on the right in this case?

You didn't notice Manny's inability to pass the ball to weeMac? Especially that first half.

It's not complaining about the set up, it's square pegs in round holes (right full back at left back, attacking wide player at right back). However; this week I don't think we have much option but to go with the same. Boxall would be coming in too cold and it would send a poor message from Ernie to Fenton who has been mucked around for the last year.

At home I think we can cope with Fenton on the right and Muscat on the Left.  We don't have enough left sided players though, I always think a team looks better with at least a couple of dominant left footers

I saw WeeMac not make a smidgeon of effort to receive the ball from anyone in the first half. We were practically playing with 10 men in the first half.

Yeah... okay. WeeMac played well in the 2 games previous with good service - ask yourself what changed between those games and the Melb Vic one? Did WeeMac suddenly turn into a player who doesn't ask for the ball? Don't think so.

he could have had an off game. Either (or both) of them could have felt the need (or been told to) drop deeper because of the threat of MV wingers. Or any number of different things.

It's quite hard to tell on TV, but can't really recall many instances where i was screaming at manny to give wee Mac the ball, and he gave it to someone else or missed the pass.

I'm guessing you were at the game though Valeo? So it may have been easier for you to see what runs he made off the ball.

If Cunningham does get let go I'd be interested to see the Irving lad get a chance until the end of the season, although I've never seen him play

I agree he is not the answer. In a one off match, considering Boxall played there last year and had 90 last week as well and i'd prefer our fullbacks to be be fullbacks and not wing backs (we just do not execute that tactic well at all - name a time we have), I'd prefer Boxall as he is a bit more stable than Fenton. Let Fenton be a natural attacking player rather than 'square peg round hole' as Valeo said. It may send the wrong message to Fenton and that really sucks but last week, he was poor. You can't reward that and you find game time and form in the Weenix which is where I would put him this week.
