It's such a mean-spirited thread, they don't rate us at all, or at least don't want to show it.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

would have loved  a rendition of are you watching Mark Bosnich from the zone after the third goal. Maybe Saturday  if winning at shirts off time

The posts in the dangerzone are often the best to read, you know, we're 1-0 up with 30, 20, 10 mins to go.

Fever came across really well on the telly. Could hear the chants in the background.

Really nice for A-Rod whose had a rough time here tbh and never cemented a spot, not only to start two consecutive clean sheet games, but to be sung off like that when he was subbed. Plus all the rest.

Also- surprising how when you start dominating all the little 50/50 or 35/65 calls suddenly start going for you. Thought we did fairly well out of the ref today.

Without wanting to sound like a dick, but what does this performance do to Ernie's next coaching gig prospects?

I do not think Victory played poorly - but there was a lot of good football played by us tonight against a decent team. I have not seen much of that over the last few months. And Des and Greenie were supposed to be only a "backup" stop-gap option (I said so myself...) So what do they have that Ernie did not?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Right for my 2 cents worth.

The zone was at it's best since last seasons protest against the FFA metrics. Loud and full of good songs.

The team played well. They had a plan and they stuck to it. Evidence of that can be seen with these two examples: Berisha & Rojas. Were they even in the game?? NO.

Also another blank sheet. 5 goals for, 0 against. Fortress ROF??

I suggest all those whom brought new fans to tonight's game, bring them back on Saturday - They are our lucky charms.

One highlight for me was having a so called fan in the row behind me calling the female lino a "Fudgeing Bitch" Only to be shut down by Vickimeist. Good job Vicki.

Tratt has to be a serious contender for player of the season and or Most improved player. The club has indeed solved the right back issue for once and for all.

Greatful thanks for those around me to help make the atmosphere awesome! Better get back to work now...with no voice.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I think it's widely accepted that Ernie just got stale, and therefore the team under him did so too. It happens to the best of them. He'll bounce back.

I'm going to go ahead and say that'd we'd have been a fairly difficult team to handle at this point in time even if Ernie was coach. We would have picked up wins and momentum against the lower teams with him there, and you'd hope the McG back would have given us some bounce, and as he did with Joel Griff, he would have made good use of Smeltz.  I think we would have momentum at this point too...but that's hard to say.

Tough call. Very much Ernie's picks out there, but he couldn't bring himself to put Roly ahead of Fink it would seem and that left the team unbalanced. Gotta remember he signed Tratt and Doyle has come on under his coaching. Most of the pieces of success are his.

Very happy seeing Roly rampaging facing goal for the 'Nix and hope that he stays there! We gotta let him know as fans how hurt we'd be if he goes anywhere...

To be fair to Ernie; this is the strongest squad we've had all season. Smeltz has made a massive difference up front to our general play.

having attended every wellington-based game since day 1, I must admit to be thinking that if they don't put on a decent show and beat CCM then its throw-the-towel-in-day. Will probably keep on going but recent games have left me feeling seriously underwhelmed with the whole thing

I hope you haven't thrown in the towel

Des & Greenie have been helped by a run of 5 'home' games in 7 games, mostly against teams at the bottom of the table. This win is the first major success for the duo. Their big test will be whether we can pick up points on the road.

The biggest change is moving to the 4-5-1 which better suits our cattle, Ernie persisted with the 4-3-3 with both Gui + Roly in midfield & wasn't willing to change it. Maybe if he had Wee Mac available, things may have been different.

Couldn't catch the game for family reasons but thought oh well, we will get humped anyway. Then I wake up this morning and see this. Gutted I missed it. Does anyone have any screenshots of Kevin Muscat after the goals? I want to bask in his pain.

Oh and is i just me or has Patrick's drumming gotten considerably better?  I thought it worked outstandingly with Krishnas on fire.

Damn that was a fine evening.

Good job Fever and Patrick.  And last night I reckon 90% of the crowd was singing and clapping with you.

Seriously good job shutting down Victory.  They picked up their game in the second half and the lads still shut them out and had them stretched badly on the counter.

Brisbane will be worried.  9/9..

I'm not sure we can be certain about that. One of the most glaring differences for me [not on an actual playing level] is that Des and Greenie are picking the best TEAM not picking certain players just because they are who they are. For example is selecting Roly INSTEAD of Finkler instead of trying to fit them both in the first XI and one or both of them not performing because the fit doesn't work.

Up until Gui took a couple of games off you wouldn't have thought that Roly was the better of the two and he might not be, but going cost Gui the starting spot as Roly has claimed it with both hands.

Totally agree NP. They've also shown a willingness to try different things which Ernie didn't (Roly at DM then AM, 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1). I was massively sceptical about the D and G combo but if they keep this up I'll eat a slice of humble pie

Plus watching Smeltz we never really replaced him at all. Man he's a good player. The not-a-striker thing was a joke but actually it was completely bloody obvious in hindsight

Ernie's selections and tactics really weren't' right for this group of players and now we can defend. We have a bit of grit and mongrel plus what looks like a bit of game intelligence, a team transformed from the walking dead who played for the whole of last year

So where do you stand now JD considering your stance about 5 rounds ago that this was a shark team and unbalanced.

Just intrigued for the sake of good conversation..

Let's put it this way. We don't call them "the Tards" because of anything to do with their team or their city. Just in that one game thread we had a great quote from someone threatening to send a pack of [slur for black people] to [perform surprise anal sex] on someone.

That's terrible. Much worse than someone posting a photo of her with response to my facetious "have a masty" comment. If I had been there, I and that individual would have had to tangle.
