Coey Turipa is a very good keeper but I don't think it's worth voting for him because he's been training with them in the past. I think it's better to give a guy they haven't seen a chance

To be honest voting doesn't seem fair. People will just vote for who they are most friends with.

it's a shame these candidates dont get some footage of them put up on youtube, so then others can take a look at the form of these guys / girls as well

Voting is not even close to being fair, I've thought about that and someone playing for a wellington club is more likely to be more well known by people on here. I'd be very reluctant to vote for someone who hasn't or isn't currently playing for a New Zealand age grade side though so I hope there's plenty of good detail on each player, with things like their biggest career highlight etc..

This isn't blatent advertising but I've just started some journalism work and interviewed one of the nonimees Adam Smith at the end of last year, the link is in my signature and would give a little description of his footballing career. It was published in the Nelson mail.

The last two winners have come from Waikato IIRC.  So not too much of an issue.

The voting is for a short list.  Ricki and Smithy pick the final winner.

Let me explain how this works.

Voting gives a chance for YF's members to have their say in the Scholarship's eventual winner.  It also helps to attract visitors to our site.

In fact the Ricki/Smithy final say is just a safety net.  Last year Marco Rojas won the popular vote and Ricki and I just rubber stamped it.

So the onus is on the candidates to promote themselves.  If they want to win it then the ball is entirely in their court.  They can post anything they want about themselves in here and encourage you to vote.

I hope they do, because it's a pretty good prize.

Yip  I agree Thomas Spragg is a class player he has been to 2 Nike Cups in Manchester as a 14yr old & 15 yr old any other NZ player done that?

He was in the starting 11 for every game at the U17 2009 World Cup in Nigeria,

I believe there's a rumour that an English Club in the top 4 of the premier league  is keen on trialling him & why wouldnt thy he's an exciting, football smart,  left footer who loves to run at defenders!  Watch this space!

Let the vote-winning begin.

I also like Spraggy.  He played last year for the Nix against Lower Hutt pre-season.  Think he did a half in the centre of midfield and looked good.

footballmama had you thought about uploading some of his footage from international games to youtube so we can all see it?  If you don't know how email me and I can help.

I'm a Spragg fan too. Saw him play for the Nix in a pre-season game against Wellington Selection XI two years ago when he was only 15 (I think) and I was well impressed.

So where do we find out how good these players are? what age group teams they've represented, position etc..?

I saw Spragg for ACFC against Manawatu and I thought he was pretty good. He was playing up front, wasn't he?

hi Smithy, I hadn't thought about that? Sounds like a fab idea I will get onto that.  We do have a dvd with all Thomas' highlights from the U17 world cup oceania qualifyers & footage of Thomas at the U17 2009 World cup in Nigeria.

Thomas Spragg is predominantly a left footer, his preferred position is left wing (this is the position that Coach Steve Cain played him at the world cup) although in saying that he can also play striker, right wing, in the hole & left back!

Why give this scholarship to someone who has already played/trained with the nix?
Thats such a waste. I suggest using it wisely for someone that hasn't had the opportunity and deserves to show Ricki and the team what they could possibly bring to the Nix in the future. If you have already played or trained with the Nix then awesome i'm sure your good but you've had your chance now its someone elses turn. Don't waste this awesome opportunity.

I don't mean to offend anyone but i'm just saying it seems like a waste for every other player that deserves this that hasn't already had that chance to show off their skills.JanelleRT2010-04-09 19:01:51

I've nominated my friend Izaac O'Hara.
Izaac is 16 and plays for Wellington High School and has since he was just a year 9. He plays striker and scored 20 goals over last season for the First X1. Just last year Izaac was one of only few skilled enough to be invited to play for New Zealand Under 19's in England on a tournament playing academy sides such as Colchester where he scored a hat trick. Izaac was asked to attend this tournament again this year which was huge as only the top players from the previous year that have a chance of being signed in England are invited back. Izaac also attended the West Bromwich Albion Academy Trial for 3 days earlier this year in Hamilton. Izaac has also played for a number of Wellington rep teams.

Izaac also impresses in Futsal. He plays for the Wellington Futsal team and is the youngest by 5 years. He recently played in the Fifa Futsal tournament along with a guy thats played for the morocan first team. They came second in this tournament.

Izaac is a very very talented footballer and deserves the chance to impress. He has a lot going for him and is not one to disappoint. I encourage you all to vote for Izaac as he has what it takes and really really deserves this opportunity.
