Edit: At least a Michael Owen brochure sort of thing

104 votes in so far, and the leaderboard is:

1st - Thomas Spragg: 21 votes
2nd - Izaac O'Hara: 14 votes
3rd - Taylor Hall-Jones: 10 votes
4th - Jack Hobson-McVeigh: 7 votes
5th - Tristan Pratley: 5 votes

Lots on 1 or 2 votes.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

There really are some dickheads in the world aren't there?

In a one hour period this afternoon Robbie Hunter shot to the lead in the voting.  This seemed a little suspicious so I had a look at the record of voting and, surprise surprise, almost all of his votes came from the same IP address - the one bigtobz (his brother) uses to post on this forum.

I thought it was only fair to check everyone else's votes, so I did, and Thomas Spragg's votes all came from the same address (all 21 of them).  The same address his mum uses to post on this forum.

It's a real shame when people try and cheat their way to any prize.  It's even more galling when it's done by family members for a prize meant for their kids.

I wanted to disqualify both of them, but Fever Exec have convinced me not to do that on the basis that it probably wasn't the actual player in either case.

However Thomas Spragg and Robbie Hunter your votes have been reset to zero.

Can everyone please play fairly in this vote, and only vote once.

Your leader now, by a comfortable margin, is Izaac O'Hara.

Thanks.

Smithy.

How did they manage this? I could only vote once from my computer.

Three for me, and two for them.

This can't be right, because I voted for Spragg earlier today.

And I'm pretty sure I'm not his mother.

Re the cheating/voting issue.  I have hidden the previous posts.

Bigtobz has come up with a plausible explanation.  Certainly one that I lack the technical expertise to disprove.

Voting tally now stands and Robbie Hunter is leading by a significant margin, so if anyone else wants to win they'd better find some friends!

And please remember, one vote per person.

Leaderboard:

1. Robbie Hunter - 32
2. Thomas Spragg - 22
3. Izaac O'Hara - 14
4. Taylor Hall-Jones - 12
5. Tristan Pratley - 11

For mine there are some good players getting no love in the voting - Andy Bevin, Dakota Lukas and Jack Hobson-McVeigh all spring to mind.

I was a little confused, as I had previously voted for one of the 2 you mentioned.

Yeah there were votes for them from other IP addresses too.

Anyway, dead issue now.  I would love someone to tell me how to make the voting 100% secure so if you know a way PM me.

Hi Footballmama,

If you have a look at the thread and posts you will see that no votes have been removed, and that a plausible explanation has been supplied.

Cheers
News.

I've nominated my friend Izaac O'Hara.
Izaac is 16 and plays for Wellington High School and has since he was just a year 9. He plays striker and scored 20 goals over last season for the First X1. Just last year Izaac was one of only few skilled enough to be invited to play for New Zealand Under 19's in England on a tournament playing academy sides such as Colchester where he scored a hat trick. Izaac was asked to attend this tournament again this year which was huge as only the top players from the previous year that have a chance of being signed in England are invited back. Izaac also attended the West Bromwich Albion Academy Trial for 3 days earlier this year in Hamilton. Izaac has also played for a number of Wellington rep teams.

Izaac also impresses in Futsal. He plays for the Wellington Futsal team and is the youngest by 5 years. He recently played in the Fifa Futsal tournament along with a guy thats played for the morocan first team. They came second in this tournament.

Izaac is a very very talented footballer and deserves the chance to impress. He has a lot going for him and is not one to disappoint. I encourage you all to vote for Izaac as he has what it takes and really really deserves this opportunity.

Vote for Izaac O'Hara

I don't really think I need to put his favorite food, music or movies. JanelleRT2010-04-12 20:13:54

I gave my vote to Jack Hobson-McVeigh. I won't give him too much of a plug, i'm sure you have all seen this goal. Was unlucky not to get more game time at the World Cup due to suspension.

Unfortunately looking at the voting numbers it seems highly unlikely he will win the YF Scholarship. I think this is a shame because he has put so much effort and work into his football over the years with the aid of his dad as a coach and mentor, but as is the case with so many talented young footballers, if you don't make it by a certain age you start to lose interest and fade away. That's why i nominated him, sort of as a last chance for him to make it as a pro.

Good luck to whoever wins it though, it is a wonderful opportunity that YF have given young players in this country.

Three for me, and two for them.

I wouldn't say three is by any means a hard and fast rule, more what we used last year.

I haven't actually worked out how many in the shortlist yet.  With the much greater number of entrants this year I'd say something like TOP 6.

I'll let you know when voting is going to close.  I'm waiting (perhaps in vain) for News to organise our Awards night so we can present the winner there (I know, dreams are free).

Many of the nominees sound highly talented with MANY impressive credentials.... but wouldn't the scholarship be better utilised by giving someone NOT ALREADY well known (but also highly talented) and not already in a position to be easily scouted a shot to impress?!?!

If the nominees are already playing for district and NZ rep teams and the likes, then they already have every opportunity to showcase their skills to eager and watchful eyes.

For instance I understand that Sam Rausch (Upper Hutt FC) was last year recognised and offered a half Scholarship to a University in the US for his football talents, but his family could not afford the large costs associated and therefore he was unable to follow his dream. He was also given a trial for the NZ under 19's, but was unable to perform to his usual standard on the day as I'm sure has happened to many others (where are they now?)

This scholarship could do someone like Sam absolute wonders, give him an opportunity to be in a position where he can be rightfully recognised and rewarded for his talents and hard work, instead of giving someone who already has the world at their feet ANOTHER advantage over all those unknown, committed, passionate, budding talents with noone watching for when they blossom!!!?

Just my thoughts :o)

Thinking out loud here, but how hard would it be to get all the nominees down to the cake tin (at the cost of the nominees)  for a day of trials & put them through their paces for speed, skills & shooting with a game at the end of the day?

Similar to the Australian show Football Superstars, you could call it either "Fever Football Stars or Phoenix Football Stars", have  Ricky & the judging panel from yellow fever to check out the best canidate for the scholarship.  It would be fantastic advertising for yellow fever & I'm sure you will have the media knocking at your door for the exclusive coverage. It would also be nice for the Yellow Fever members & public to get the opportunity to watch these nominees be put through their paces.

This way you get to make sure that the winner will slip into the Phoenix training camp with ease & will be able to actually pass the ball back so not to frustrate the nix players by not having the required skills to play at this level!

Just a thought!

You could even use all these nominees for a Phoenix development squad & play them in the Youth A-League next season?

I really like this idea. Would be awesome. But realistically I doubt it will happen. Good idea though!

This WOULD seem to be a much fairer means by which to select the successful nominee. (Not just a popularity vote) But I'm sure this has probably already been thought of and/or considered, surely there must be a plausible reason this has not become a reality to date?

Cost.  Time.

And to be honest, as any player who has been through a very short trial process will tell you, it wouldn't necessarily be a fairer way to select a winner.
