FFS TV1 “threats of fan violence mar a League derby” Are these morons  capable of writing news stories that don’t revert to old cliches. Is this an anti football thing? Football in NZ is on a roll and they have to find something negative.
I can see the post match headlines after nothing happens. “ large police presence prevents fan violence in A League derby”
Violence is an integral part of NZ culture unfortunately. I have seen mass brawls at the Toast Martinborough wine festivals. I have seen drunken fights at one day cricket games, rock concerts etc. Picking out NZ football when nothing really bad has happen in 18 years of A League football in NZ is just lazy journalism.

Yeah most warriors game there is a good scrap. Last one I went to there was a full brawl in lilworld with chairs being thrown around by the king cobras.

I think it's safe to assume that given both clubs and the police have commented that it's more than a couple of blowhards on some Facebook groups. Not everything happens in public.

Whether any threats are credible, who knows.

Bloody thing is though the friggen media dont talk about that just like they didnt talk about the pitch invasions or bottle throwing at the last Warriors games in Wellington.
As we all know had either of those been at a football game they would have been front page everywhere.
Glad they called it out may put people off if they were contemplating trying something.

Is there a double standard here...

The vitoral directed at the Auckland owners for some of their apparent stunts comments, and the defense of DOME.

Personally I haven't had a problem with anything - from the pitch invasion to this. Nothing has been said or done that I would consider dangerous or indefensible.

It will help generate buzz... which means everyone wins... let's be honest, arguably a little push and shove mid game would from an advertising perspective be brilliant!
There's a difference between trying to disrupt a game and a bit of banter outside of the match.

Yeh- imagine if that had cost us momentum in a key game? And you can imagine how clever the disrupters thought they were when they brought it up.

Dome’s just talking smack.

That said, it would be colossally awesome if a range of Bememoth beers, perhaps say Dump the Trump, were available at the game…won’t happen, but imagine if it were the main beer choice at the stadium with a few posters…

Actually they all look okay tbh:

Do we have a beer partner these days?

Lots of differences between the news and reality currently.
But yeh friends who were security guards told me they disliked the big Warriors games at Eden Park and that they were worst behaved crowds. Not a story I’ve ever seen about the Wahs in the local news!

This seems like an attempt by the hierarchy to stick the boot in while they can.

Just ignore them. The numbers are looking good. Let’s turn it up to 11!

Big brawl in Rugby game, they rarely report that do they..and that's just the players.
But anything to slap football down.

Okay disappointing if threats are real. At least it means there is interest and excitement, hopefully just turns out to be some friendly abuse and chanting. But wow pinch me moment, we actually have an NZ derby now. I would never have dreamt that would be possible a few years ago. Cannot wait for the weekend.

This is completely new for NZ sport. No one cares if the hurricanes beats the blues, and 400 fans travelling from Auckland?! Surely unheard of.

Other thing to remember is that before, especially for big games, quite a lot of people traveled from all over the country to support the Nix. Just now a bunch of them are away fans!

I understand the chant (also long time no see fella!) but thought Wellington was the home of coffee in NZ?
And most of the country likes a coffee with milk these days?

Equally we take a shot at the wine and Rob’s also got a vineyard too.

Think beating them by 4 and singing what’s the score for 30 odd minutes would be my favourite! Oh and we’re top of the league could also then come into play?

I’m not even remotely surprised that the NZ media come up with a negative slant for the derby. Sports journalism in NZ has been biased against football for ever.
I have a journalist friend who told me that sports journalism is very “blokey « in this country. Most of the senior sports journalist are older white males and they are nearly all rugby heads. They set the agenda for which sports get  covered and in what way.
They haven’t grasped that times have changed and the trajectories of football and rugby have dramatically changed. I guess they feel threatened by footballs rise. There has been an enormous amount of positives around football recently. Not surprised they want to react with negativity. I’ll bet if there is the slightest incident at the derby, even a minor scuffle it will be front page news.
Big ups for Piney and the other journalists waving the flag for football.

As an Aucklander myself I was worried I would start to form a connection with the new ‘local” team. After standing near the port in the most recent game I am very glad to say that I felt no emotion towards the game, something I worried I would start to feel.
Of course who doesn’t like a last minute winner, I was happy for them.

The port are very young group and I will not be showing off my Phoenix shirt anytime soon and will have my jumper on until I get to my seat at Mt Smart. A guy wearing a Phoenix shirt had full beers thrown at him and was being threatened by fans.
I know us fever fans respect opposition fans where we do not resort to physical violence and only get into it through chants.

So excited for this weekend. Drummer can we please get the biggest
👏👏  👏👏👏  👏👏👏👏 PHOENIX! As the players walk in. Let our boys walk into a wall of noise. Bring it on

Mykey, Sthn.Jeff, Austin111, The Aucklandphoenixfan, Four of the latest posts and all have nailed it perfectly. Thanks guys, you all see it for what it is. In Football promotion terms, this game is the BIGGEST domestic game for years. The pinnacle that celebrates the first ever truly professional competitive game here. I'm happy we have a second side from NZ represented. CHCH next?? Anyway, I just hope it's a brilliant day for all the right reasons. And of course 3 points for the Nix - hopefully, unless Paulsen plays for them like he did for us.

Looks like a bunch more bays have been opened for the match. Also looks like quite a bays are now sold out in and around the Fever side of things.

Would be great to get an updated diagram and estimate from NixNation!

Go Paddy Gower….you are the man! LOL. I’m loving the build up to this game. Ten years ago when I left NZ I never thought there would be another NZ pro club ever. And now it’s happened and we have this amazing tension building up to match day between two pro NZ teams. And to make it even better there are loads of really good kiwi players in both teams. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Lol, brutal start:
I for one am sick of the hype about Auckland FC, which is driven by Aucklanders and the Aucklander media.
So let's get some things straight. They have played two games.

Add to that- Own Goals is still their top scorer!

From RNZ

Auckland FC has squashed claims of planned fan violence linked to New Zealand's first professional football derby in the A-League.

The Wellington Phoenix said they added extra security for Saturday's game in the capital after reports of organised violence from the visiting fans on social media.

Auckland FC chief executive Nick Becker had not seen any threats online and said the Phoenix general manager David Dome had yet to show him any proof either.

"I haven't seen any credible evidence of such a thing and I don't think there is," Becker said.

Further to the above, if it did exist, I’m  sure that some one on this forum would have seen it and posted it.

David Dome really needs to comment on this and admit it is been exaggerated as it’s a very dangerous rumour to start.

You wouldn’t see a CEO of an English club doing this kind of thing as it would just encourage and inflame things leading to drama

Aisles 15 and 16 are being used for the Football for All campaign, and what I'm guessing the free tickets being given out in Wellington today.
