It'll be called off - the flooding will be worse tomorrow and is due to peak on Thursday... Suncorp is an evac centre tho I doubt the ground staff and pitch prep will be high on the priority list.

Sounds like it could exceed '74 where Toowong/Milton went pretty well under... not to mention the airport :p

We'll see...

Queensland police said they expect it to exceed 1974 levels in Ipswich and Brisbane by Thursday. So the flooding is only to get worse. Even if the stadium is fine and no longer an evacuation centre my bet is on a postponed game. I agree football is probably not the priority there at moment anyway.

Airport is still open.

I'd rather it not go ahead if the weather's crap. Rojas can't do his tricks in the rain! Plus, even though the North Queensland pitch wasn't TOO bad, it was still annoying for them to play in, and the ball was all slippery, and sliding around.

Don't think you realise how serious the situation is. Rojas being inhibited by the rain is the least of the current issues. This game will not proceed.

I don't think it's about what the conditions will be like at the scheduled time of kick off. It's past that now, a natural disaster. people will be in mourning, the clean up, trauma, the possibility of mosquito borne diseases, all things the community there will be focussing on. A football game isn't a priority.

I won't mind one bit if they call it off even if conditions for play are fine.

Fuck this stupid game

On the 9pm news on the radio, they said Suncorp was being set up as an evac centre now the Brisbane River has broken its banks.

Brisbane river is likely to reach 19 meters in the early hours of Wednesday. Football is probably the last thing on their mind, I hope everything will be alright in the end.

A point each for a cancelled game sounds like a good deal for us.

That would only happen if the game starts and passes the 60 minute mark before being called off and no rematch is scheduled.

Who makes the decision of whether or not the game goes ahead?

The FFA.

By the sound of it I wouldn't be surprised if they make the call before we fly. Hard News2011-01-11 23:01:55

Bet that situation will change over the course of today Queensland is a disaster zone. no sport this weekend.

Well I think this is the confirmation you need.

MILTON RESIDENTS - CASTLEMAIN ROAD HAVE BEEN EVACUATED (source Channel 9 news)

They showed Suncorp in the background. So the surrounding area of the ground is in flood, before the worst of the flood peak has hit.

I would laugh my head off if they don't postpone the match tommorow.

EDIT - Just to add the peak in Brisbane is expected on Thursday at 5.45 metres and will stay at its peak for 2-3 days. So that takes us till Sunday with the city having no electricity, probably no water, 10,000 homes inundated.

This is Australia's New Orleans...

I wouldn't be surprised if Brisbane offer to play in Wellington instead on Sunday with the FFA bankrolling the event with all funds going to the Relief effort.

If someone from the Wellington City Council is reading this thread, I'd offer the FFA/Roar a free ground rental for Sunday (or a midweek date further on)  with all funds going to either the Roar or the flood appeal.

Nice idea but our ground here is currently set up for an ODI on the 22nd and cannot be changed back that quickly. Unfortunately.

Waikato Stadium is not being used until Feb 12th. Play here, and free tickets for anyone from Brisbane.

John Mitchell, nix's media manager, was just on radio sport. said FFA would make a call today. Otherwise they are still planning to go to Brisbane.

where was the W-league game going to be played?

hey if they do play it at Suncorp, and it's an evac center, at leats it'll have a good crowd.

Giving a little back to the community in tough times. Kinda like that concert in ChCh.

I do like the idea of a stadium here offering itself up, with proceeds going to a Queensland Flood Fund.

From Stuff: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/4530962/Phoenix-trip-to-Brisbane-in-doubt-due-to-floods

"Two A-League games have already been rescheduled because of flooding this season: Gold Coast United against Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets against North Queensland Fury, who played their catch-up fixture in Newcastle last night."

I thought the Newcastle one was rescheduled cause their pitch was too ripped up still from the motorcross? Didn't think that one was due to flooding.

I'd say 95% likely to be rescheduled, rather than abandoned and the points shared.  If it's canned this Sunday.Hard News2011-01-12 09:25:16
