have not heard anything but absolutely YES for me. makes 100% sense. We must beat the Jets next weekend...that is a 6 point game for sure.

The Roar game is a pain in the arse....the trave midweek plus the heat and humidity will drain the players....especially the wide guys who do lots of running.

We should bench Rojas, Ward, Lochy at least. Toto, Musa, Greenacre and maybe Diego and Pav should start. Let pav and Greenacre do lots of chasing. i actually wouldn't mind if we parked the bus against the Roar. We will never be able to press them for the full 90. They will overun us in an openish game.

We need Rojas, Ward and Lochy fully rested for next weekend against the Jets. If we lose to the Jets then that could well be season over for us.

I can see where you are coming from but to rest these player.(they have already had a rest) It does sound logic, sometimes being too cautious can be your downfall.
The Roar are only human and are beatable.
We have to win the home games and try and get something from the other three. We might as well start with Brisbane. The mistake is assuming that we will get a point or whatever from Sydney.

I agree Leggy, even if we just scrap and earn it point in the match it could be crucial.

Off to Brisbane we go.The big question, what will we be aiming for??
A win?? - attack all out and secure 3 more points, some breathing space,
A draw?? -  playing defensively and hoping to frustrate and hold them to get a valuable point
A loss ?? -  concede there isnt much chance,  and save our fire and the top players legs for the home game with the Jets

Pschologically I think you need to be there for at least the draw, it is important to retain form for the remaining games and to deliberately slacken off now might alter the mind set.

If you think you dont have a chance against the Roar now, then how can you think you are going to go well against any of the top teams in the finals stages. I think we have a chance, we have played well lately, the defense has stepped up and the attack is more potent, more balls into the penalty area for sure

Alos important to remember is that they are "away" from home too, and they have a few concerns over the pitch there, so it evens the home advantage a bit.

I would like to see us start our best players and go for it. Wonder what Ricki will do, we havent been in this situation before. Cant wait

It will all come down to tactics.

If we play our A team thats fine.....but we need to modify our tactics. Ball retention is paramount. If we can't hold onto the ball we will shag our players very quickly as they will end up having to track their runners. Same if you try and press them high up the field.....too difficult to play that game in high heat and humidity.

We need to slow the tempo of the game down. Try and hold possession. No 50/50 long balls. Attack on the counter quickly but don't push too many players forward at once. Defend in numbers and deep if need be. I would be tempted to play Greenie....he will run and track all match. Give Ward and Rojas half a game each. Get Brown and Muscat to sit tight on our back four....don't drift upfield too much.

It is possible the Roar will be unsettled after whats been happening in Qsld....but they are still a very good side. We held CCM to one goal but slipped up when we stopped marking up in midfield. Do this against Brisbane and they will shred us.

Sorry mate, I never got to the bottom few lines.
It is not really that much of an away game as the Roar supporters can get to the GC in about 60m.
I think there will be a good crowd.
I agree that we should go for it.

Really?  Toto?  We hoping they will be so busy laughing they won't be able to play?

We'll need at least 1 goal because Kosta will get one so the boys better remember that.

Yay Toto, he'll rip it up.

             Vukovic

       Durante     Sigmund
Hearfield                  Lochhead

        Muscat   Brown

    Toto             Daniel
        Greenacre
            Pavlo

Crowther
Ward/Lia
Rojas
D-Mac

Summin' like that.

Toto strikes me as someone who plays very immature football.  Not in an offensive sense do I mean that, but he doesn't look up and generally just charges forward, loses it, and starts again from further back.  Very similar to what you see young kids do. loyalgunner2011-01-24 02:03:05

Not typically a fan of parking the bus but in this instance I can only advocate one tactic: PARK THE BUS.

Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Really worried about this game - GD could well determine whether or not we make the play-offs and parking the bus will just invite the onslaught. Hopefully Vuko, Dura, Siggy.... heroics will save us from an embarrassing score sheet.

Whilst I understand and agree with resting key players (especially Rojas who didn't back up well at CCM) for the Jets game our bench looks pathetic - with the exception of Greenie. Hopefully Bertos benefits from a few weeks off and can come back before the season's end. Diego must have really f**ked Herbert off if Toto is a better option.

I'm glad Pav is traveling - I would like to see him get some more game time.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Me the exact same. Just chases the ball and keeps out of position.

saw Ricki had to change formation to accomodate Toto to go central so he had less defensive duties.

People are forgetting that Roar havnt exactly been on form of late, thought we had a great shot to beat them last week but truly think we could get something here.

Would much rather have had pav on the bench last night over Toto.
Also thought maybe musa should have travelled
But with that squad, I would look at something like this:

                         Vukovich
Hearfield Sigmund Durante Lochhead
Ward        Lia          Muscat       Daniel
           Macallister Greenacre

Bring Pav on for DMac and Rojas for Daniel when needed.
Then Browny can come in for Lochy, Troy or any of the middle two.

Think Brown has become more of an attacking midfielder of late and could probably go for a rest, otherwise its leave out lia or manny. Lia was good last night, so maybe even muscat could drop out or go to a fullback spot to make way for Lchy or Troy??

I think the floods and break may affect Brisbane's performance significantly. We should be aiming for a draw.

Team travelling tomorrow? I wonder if they'll have a run about on the pitch before the game.

I think we need to aim for a minimum of a draw. While I can appreciate people's thoughts on OMGZ PARK THE BUS!!11 in the past when Phoenix have gone in with a highly negative mindset, we've completely sucked and let other team dominate to score easy goals.

We still need to play the game and attack, otherwise we might as well stay home and forfeit.

Possibly not such a silly idea...

I think we can draw, definitely. Vukovic is a great keeper, and our defence is looking a lot stronger these days, then again we are playing away, 3 days after a home game.
All I can say is, coyn.

Not sure we are totally out of this one to be honest.

Two teams playing on a neutral ground...

I think we can sneak a result then slip home to Welly and prepare to take some points off the Planes!

Agree, wasn't very impressed with him on Sunday, although he was certainly more committed than Daniel.

I was even less impressed when I saw him out on the town at 3am on Courtney Place looking absolutely smashed and going home with a couple of ladies. Hardly what you want a member of your squad doing in a season defining week for the club where we play 3 games in 8 days. Tool.
