Phoenix fans doubtful WGA will save Terry

Fans of Terry Serepisos football team the Wellington Phoenix have reacted with dismay to the future of the club appearing to hinge on a loan deal with Western Gulf Advisory.

The National Business Review broke the news Mr Serepisos was seeking a loan from WGA a fortnight ago, and today the troubled property developer publicly confirmed this news as well as his plans to sell half of the Phoenix to WGA founder Ahsan Ali Syed.

But contributors to the Phoenixs internet forum Yellow Fever this morning were skeptical the deal would save Mr Serepisos or his football team.

Whitehartlane questioned why anyone would lend Mr Serepisos money: Why would this foreign guy get involved in a string of companies debt ridden, ($9 million at last count) and losing money hand over fist?

"Coupled with Terry obviously having little or no equity in his properties, hence needing offshore financial help to bail him out, it would be the worst investment around. I don't get it and it worries me.

James Dean expressed concern the Phoenix were being conflated with Mr Serepisos business woes: The more I think about this the more worried/annoyed I get. There is absolutely no reason for this guy [Mr Ali], who is being brought in to recapitalise Terrys business need to take a stake in the Phoenix.

'Ard Righ' was more blunt: "Terry is in deep sh*t if he has to restructure everything to someone in Zurich."

Meanwhile some were hopeful a tie-in with Spanish La Liga team Racing Santander, which Mr took control over last month, would boost performance on the pitch.

Luis Garcia said: Lets hope they give us some loan players. Spanish right-back and striker please.

Leyton Orient said: While its not unusual for the rest of Europe to have to bail out the Greeks, I never expected salvation to come from Spain.

Another poster, in reply, said: It hasnt.

Good lord - was that in print or just on their website?

[QUOTE=AllWhitebelievr] I give him reasonable doubt as long as the club is supported and looked after, we have little choice but to give it support.
You're right here...but I still think we can at least try and answer the hard questions about what is actually going on
--> fair enough, it a painful wait to see the light (or darkness) at the end of the tunnel. We probably wouldn't get into the fine details but certain strategies would have to be shown sooner or later and hopefully for the fans there is some transparence and confidence building for the fans unlike to what happen to the NZ Knights franchise.

Dunno, I'm just still shock that Feverish subscribed to NBR to get that info.

But that is very sad that they have to pull off post on this website especially for the angst and then paint a bleak naysay info to create confusion and feed the doubt to the masses. We are just a bunch of fans querying about it and they turn it around to scaremonger the poor ill-informed masses. Isn't it bad enough that we ourselves are poorly informed and re-quoted like we are local experts. We are not that classy.

I hope that article made it to print although even by the NBR's standards I suspect it is a tad too amateur.

You can quote me on that too NBR, although please attribute it to Arsenal this time, instead of (the very humorous) Leyton Orient. Arsenal2011-02-24 08:02:41

The Mongrel Mob are very wealthy. Not sure where their money comes from, but if they can stump up cash to save the club ...

Perhaps someone should talk to their leader.

Ill informed sources say that the fore mentioned party " would prefer to concentrate on their lucrative core business activities of pharmaceutical distribution, debt collection and neighbourhood security services and enforcement, and adult entertainment services, which are enjoying boom times. Discretionary spending on family and sports entertainment in this economic climate is at an all time low and frankly aint worth  sh*t."
You can have that  for free too   NBR.

Funny how the headlines in the Doom post were " 50% of the Nix to be sold to....." When you read the last paragraph in the article the RS guy says something like " I would like to help Terry out by introduce some liquidity into the club, which could be in terms of sponsorship or if that was not an option then a part ownership maybe another option"
So as it stands part ownership is only an option. Which is completely different from the heading of the article. You can see why journalists are widely regarded by the public as one step up from child molestors and parking meter attendents.

nice comment at the bottom

WGA agrees on debt repayment plan with Spanish government

The man Terry Serepisos is turning to bail out his property empire and football team, Western Gulf Advisory founder Ahsan Ali Syed, has begun paying off debt related to his purchase of La Liga team Racing Santander.

Mr Ali took control of an insolvent Racing Santander in late January, assuming 13 million euros in debt the club holds with the Spanish Treasury, AFP reported.

He "has faced up to Racing's debts with the Treasury and paid part of the debt that was urgent to avoid a seizure of the club," said the finance minister of the northern region of Cantabria, Angel Agudo.

He said Mr Ali had paid around two million euros, and had agreed on a schedule of payments to cover the rest of the debt.

Mr Ali was described in the reports as an "Indian billionaire".

Thats where Terrys application money went.

On the Rovers board, BRFCS.com, that tweet was pointed out in the thread about Ali Syed buying Racing Santander. Its from Adrian Goldberg, a journo for BBC 5Live Investigates. Im guessing its about us, so might be something in the papers soon.

Telfer just interviewed him on Radio Sport. Bottom line seems to be that there are a load of question marks about Ali Sayed and a few stories which don't seem to ring true, but nothing definitive to say he's a crook.

Goldberg's biggest issue was why Blackburn knocked him back and then agreed a deal with somebody else for a lot less dosh. Kept describing what the 5 Live investigation turned up as 'curious' and described him as 'shadowy'!

Said that we should investigate him very thoroughly, and if we're satisfied then go for it. (By 'we' I don't mean Yellow fever, by the way)
