Mentioned this briefly on the A-league transfer thread, but Mark Bridge just got released from his Thai club. Anyone think he would be a good signing and/or we have a chance at getting him?

no thank you

Wasn't a fan of either him or Watson being resigned if I'm honest, but kind of understandable given that so many players left.

Fernando was down watching Wellington United so probably weighing up Keegan Smith.

Who is Keegan Smith? And what could he offer us?

i am guessing a young goalkeeper, who may be good enough to be third choice if any of the other 2 get injured.

18 year old keeper. Looks about 10 foot tall. Think he made his first team debut for Ellerslie.

I'm about to move some files from my Desktop to my Portable Hard Drive.

Does this count as Transfer News?

Is it a free transfer / personal reasons transfer / or is money changing hands?

I'm not sure about that but even if true I am not not saying that it's bad we are looking at this kid. I am saying that my juices aren't flowing in anticipation of the new season when I think about the possibility of a new 18yo 3rd-choice keeper I've never previously heard of.

I don't think many fans of A-league clubs get excited by the signing of the 4th, 5th and 6th U20 players.

Signed to play centre back.  I maintain he is not a right back!

How many games did he play at CB for us? How many games did he play CB for SSU? He has probably played twice as many games as a professional at RB than CB.

When he left to go to South Africa, he said that he wanted to play CB. I see that he has been signed in the US as a CB.

Seems like Ben McKendry could be set to be loaned out from Whitecaps. He would be a decent fit as an A-Rod replacement and wouldn't take up an import slot..

Ok, you are right he can play RB at the level of a bottom third A-League team and the South African league.  I am saying that at a decent level (ie above those levels) he is not going to make it as a right back - he will need to make it as a centre back or he won't play at a higher level.

The season he played RB for us we weren't a bottom third team in the A League. We came 4th.

How do you guys speculate like this all pre-season? I'm already tired of hearing of no transfers..

Lucky we announced the coach, otherwise I would be going insane.

"I'd give you everything I've got for a little piece of mind"

Common error, leading to a misconception as to which medical specialty is involved:

"I'd give you everything I've got for a little piece of mind" --->  neurosurgery, anatomical pathology

"I'd give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind" ---> psychiatry, psychology, and possibly hydroponic horticulture

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

huge fan of Boxall, but id go with Tratt. I think he was future club captain/legend material.

I think Tratt was good but was a tad overrated because people had such low expectations of him at the start of the season. I think he and Boxall are very similar players but Boxall is just a bit better at everything. Galloway is good and has plenty of time to develop but I like Boxall's size and physicality, which are things we lack in our current lineup

While I really liked Tratt, I think Boxall might hopefully play here again one day.

I should add that i was absolutely gobsmacked at the running speed of Boxall.

At 1.88 m height it ain't easy to run this fast, yet he is exceptional in that department, given that he is 28 now.
