James has played DM for NZ and played well. I actually think he's played further back in the midfield in recent years. I would be keen to have a look at him, just in level of injuries is a concern.

I think a lot of people confuse deep lying play maker for defensive midfielder. Quite different. James is more a deep lying playmaker. The Asian lad that played for ACFC Kee Hong Lee was the exact same.

Chris James has left Colorado Springs. I know it's unlikely but would love to see him in a Nix shirt.

On What premise Doloras? This is what this thread is all about. I get it if we are talking about a top Christiano Ronaldo like player but there is far more possibility that Chirs James "could happen"

It's a terminology thing. I think a lot of people view DM as a space on the field and "deep lying playmaker" and "holding mid" to describe styles of player who occupy that space. Like how a target man isn't a position but is a type of striker.

I think with Palacki signed up a player like James next to him at the base of a midfield in a 4-2-3-1 would work nicely.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

It does seem unlikely that James would be signed at this stage of his career on the back of an injury too. He would be a decent Kiwi signing but maybe someone like Auckland City should look at him.

The premise is that Chris James is done, as far as anyone who matters in this country goes, just like he'll never play for the AWs again. Expecting him to make a triumphant return is like expecting Peter Gabriel to do a reunion tour with Genesis. If it was going to happen, it would have happened already.

people look at Chris James through rose tinted glasses. He played well for two games, he just hasnt been caught out like Ian Hogg was.

Both WSW & Sydney have been rumoured to have spoken with him, yet he remains unsigned. That is pretty a good indication that whatever his issue was, it hasn't come right yet.

They'll announce new striker at the dawn service 10th Aug I'd say. Maybe someone will leak or previous club will say something before hand

Seems more than speculation because he gave a date range.

Makes no sense unless we are looking to release Fox or Lowry - why have 3 back up CB's. He was excellent last night and a kiwi so I'm happy to hear this, but question the value of it.

Will be one of the 6 under 20 players though. Perhaps they see him as a longer term project (sidenote: wonder if he could slip in a DM role somewhere down the line).

Quick sidenote, i was more of a casual fan when Stein arrived, how did he go in his first season here? Was he the sort of player we need now? Surprised to see he's still kicking it in the Belgian 7th div

I rated Stein, and his first season was solid. Would probably fit better with the structure and team we have now, was probably asked to drop a little too deep and be a little too creative when he was here. That said he only had one usable foot (can't remember which one).

Didn't he have massive injury problems after he left us? I think we probably let him go at the right point.

Yeah I think so, agree we let him go at the right time. The right sort of player though; good pedigree, played a few times for a decent national team, a solid goal-scoring record in decent leagues, technical, strong and not slow.

If we get a player like Stein, he needs to be focused on being in and around the box - a true number 9. I can remember Stein ended up playing an attacking midfield sort of role at times.
