Now that Rado Vidosic has been confirmed as assistant, it opens the possibility that his son Dario might become available around October at the end of the current Korean second division season.

Dario is a talented Aussie international midfielder / winger but has dropped down to the Korean second division, so there must be some chance of prising him back to the A-League. His club Seongnam have been through four managers in the last nine months. The current Korean second division season finishes on October 28 and Seongnam are struggling in their first season after relegation, lying seventh of ten teams after fifteen rounds. Only the champions gain direct promotion.

Can keep Finkler honest, cover the striker role if need be and play alongside new import striker to be named, and Krishna.

Like.

Mainly played in the #10 role for WSW a couple seasons ago but previously in a stint with Adelaide he played out wider. The season being played out wide was his best goal scoring season (10) but he isn't a noted goal scorer (24 in 96 A-League games).

Guessing we line up like this now:

Italiano

Galloway Durante Rossi Doyle

Paracki McGlinchey

Krishna Finkler Vidosic

Visa Striker

We are really needing to nail the final visa signing, I am really worried about our goal scoring options.

I would say that in his peak time (playing for the national squad) he was real class. He might have peaked a bit too quickly for my liking, but nothing that a bit of a fatherly talking-to would not fix.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Very happy with this signing. We're now getting those attacking players we need to push through to the finals. Can't wait for any other news!

If we sign a good striker, then we have a very good 11. You have to wonder about the depth but no team has brilliant depth in the a-league.

Depth should be pretty good, players like Parkhouse, Ridenten, Fox, Fenton, Watson etc. all have gotten more game time for us than other second string players tend to get and tend to impress. Also, add in talented youngsters like Singh and we've got pretty good depth.

It's not bad, but we don't exactly have game breakers on the bench.  Realistically I'd not really expect that, but I always enjoyed the likes of Daniel coming on for a cameo at the end.

Still, it's looking a better than solid squad (assuming a quality import striker) and a few to be signed yet.

If a couple of those youngsters really come on ... terrific.

The striker signing is gonna be the key to the season. Ernie always said a proven one was too expensive so he tried to convert wider players. Hopefully DK & Rado can find us one, so we don't have to try and convert again.

Out of all the OK but not great Australian wingers - Vidosic, Burns and Kruse - Vidosic would've been at the bottom of my list. However, there isn't a whole lot of choice out there at the moment, and I'm reasonably happy with this signing.

My only concern is that I never ever like when a son plays under his father at a professional club - has it ever ended well in the history of football? It always seems to cause issues.

Vidosic is a bit like the Australian Kosta too - always had a lot of potential, but a bit of a journeyman in the end. Not great, but good. In saying that, Burns was looked at in much the same way until he came to the Nix. (though he's younger)

I'm actually quite happy with how our squad is shaping up. I think Paracki brings a real sense of solidity in the middle of the park which we haven't had since Riera left. (judging on his one game I've seen, anyway)

A hell of a lot depends on our import striker signing though.

Squad starting to come together nicely now.

Also good to see players coming in with a bit of pedigree. State Leagues on the cheap is good if we want to save some $$$, but the stark reality is we have 3 years to keep this club afloat in the A-League, so having a bit of clout with some decent signings shows the right level of ambition.

It was a little bit disappointing reading about shying away from Kiwi signings, but we do have a solid graduating system in place for our youngsters coming through in the form of Central League >> WeeNix >> Phoenix, so as long as we have Kiwi's coming through that pathway, then at least if they're any good, they will play for us.

Patrick's favourite player Paolo Maldini didn't do too bad under his father Ceaser Maldini

Word I hear, is Neymar was interested but wanted half of Oriental Bay as payment so Welnix went for the cheaper option.

Dario did alright when his dad was the assistant at Brisbane, plus he scored the only goal in a win over Brisbane when his dad was the manager, so maybe it's better he's on our side?

3 Kiwis and one's Durante, who can't really be considered a New Zealand product, even if he is a New Zealander now, and one's McGlinchey, who lived in Scotland from when he was 1 until he was a man. Bravo Tommy Doyle.

My question is does Dario Vidosic still get selected to play for Australia ? If so what is the difference between having kiwi players playing for the Nix and being selected to playing for New Zealand and an Australian being selected to play for the Socceroos.

Due to the ineptness of the FFA with no break for an International window now we will not sign New Zealand International players but we potentially have an Australian International player.

That doesn't seem to make sense.

He'd be a long shot for Socceroo squads and would have to have a stand out season. My theory is that the Phoenix issued that statement mainly to put some pressure on the FFA with FIFA in town to address some of the governance issues that they face, not breaking for international windows will probably be something that FIFA aren't too happy about.
