2017/18 Transfer Speculation

So have we released Dario? If he signs anywhere except the A League, are we in line for a transfer fee?

Rumor is he's on his way to City.

Anyway, how about a tilt at Burns?

Surely the way the last few years have gone would make it hard to attract other players too

CCM and NUJ have been worse (as well as cheaper for CCM and more shambolic for NUJ) for longer than us and they are still able to attract players. I would think being paid and treated well are the first things players look for, on field success could be way to determine between two clubs that both meet the requirement of being paid and being treated well.

Hope it sorts itself out soon... with the number of hhhhhmmmm big names leaving it could be a sign that good is about to come as the trouble makers have gone....

There is a growing expectation in Australia after the FIFA intervention that in time the A-League will be independently run with quite a number of areas putting their hands up to be included as expansion teams.... and many more to form a second division...

Maybe clearing the decks to get ready for a massive effort next year is the plan to met the metrics thing... but I can see lots of change next year after FIFA and AFC leave....

Why

Because Welnix is well respected by the other owners, Rob Morrison is even one of the a league teams nominated negotiator with the ffa.

Still the Phoenix have their own metrics to meet and need to increase every aspect of what they do but the expectation would be that they are treated no differently than the other teams.

Why

Because the interests of a national body (development of AUS players, advancement to the World Cup, etc) are different from the interests of a local competition (selling a sport / entertainment product at profit).

In other words, commercial factors would still be important "metrics" in a club-run league, but a NZ based franchise would arguably not be treated any different on those commercial grounds than an Australian mainland based clubs.

The A-League clubs are in a fight with FFA over, money, control and growing the game.

That Rob Morrison is one of the leaders in this, I fail to understand how this then transcends to all things in Football in Australia…… you could be right but I doubt the owners will reverse the metrics already in place by FFA.

Do you really believe the other owners care little about metrics?

The plan is for expansion to 16 teams a second division and P & R all within a few years… in a P & R scenario if you guys were sent down and then lost in the second division it becomes interesting as where you sit in a third division.

From afar your [Niz fans in general] sense of entitlement is huge… it’s like you are owed a place….. often comparing yourself with the Mariners who have had two terrible years in Hals 11 & 12 … however we have completed phase 1 of the Centre of Excellence some vids below, and are in the process buying our stadium and have developed more than 10 Socceroos and have 4 former players in our current world cup squad.

Mainland

You are serious, that old line FFA are against us … FFS you had Frank Lowy for his entire term personally looking out for your interest … and you think FFA are worried by metrics wait until the clubs are face with an Australian team that will bring more revenue to the league than the Nix’s.

THE POINT … no body actually wants you out … I repeat no body wants you out … everybody wants you to deliver the potential you keep talking about….

Stop blaming every man and his dog and accept it’s your responsibility as a club / fan base / city / country to deliver your own outcomes...

Seriously City Group, the Chinese owners of the Jets,  The Roar owners from Indonesia, Charleworth at the Mariners from England are not going to be concerned with metrics ....

If interested vids on the COE.

The club is also close to announcing a replacement for Finkler, who took up an import slot. The player will come from one of the lesser leagues in Europe and can play anywhere in central midfield. His signing should be announced next week, pending a successful visa application.

The Phoenix aren't in business to sit last on the table and have the lowest crowds in the competition. They have their own metrics that they'll be failing as well. No one is wanting a free ride and everyone I'm sure is working extremely hard to improve the situation.

The point is that an independent A-League would require metrics of course, but the expectation would be that all teams are treated equally. There wouldn't be this crazy notion that the Phoenix are exploitative taking money from the FFA (when the fact is that the Phoenix are actually pumping millions of dollars into the FFA coffers, but that is a matter of perception), an independent a-league would not have that relationship to the governing body and so the issue would be moot.

You're being paranoid.

There is no conspiracy but it's also clear that the Phoenix have targets to hit and restrictions that the other teams don't. That's just fact.

Also, I doubt my opinion or yours has any bearing whatsoever.

I didn't see it that way at all from the press bites. The foreign players are simply the highest profile, highest paid, and most experienced professionally. They're used to playing in teams which are far less functional than the Phoenix and competitions far less functional than the A-League so if they're pushing for change then it's a reasonably big deal.

Um, all the other HAL teams were given 20 (?) year licences and not the 'Nix. No matter how poorly the business case is for CCM, NUJ etc. they still have their licence, while the 'Nix have to jump through hoops (which other teams don't) to keep theirs rolling on.

Having that licence period is like a noose around our necks, it magnifies all the negativity around the club. NUJ only a couple of seasons ago had to be bailed out by the FFA - good luck with the FFA doing the same for the 'Nix.

The business case for NUJ is really strong, huge soccer following there and very strong juniors

But that hasn't necessarily reflected in crowds or ratings. NZ is also strong by the same criteria.

That's a good point about the metrics thing, it dominates any press associated with the Phoenix and means that any negativity is compounded and anything positive always has mitigating negativity.

That is absolute bullshark. the evidence is there that FFA treat us differently to other clubs - a different license period the most obvious. Are any of the other clubs sitting on a license? Its ok to welcome us with open arms when you cant get enough teams or investors to start your bloody A League, then fudge us off as soon as you find some bunch of banwagon jumpers wanting to invest in something we contributed too. Not allowed to play any FFA Cup games here, no invite for a Women's team, no 20 year licence, metrics that are required to be met, yet on a percentage per population basis, we foot it well, even though we would all like gates of 12-14k every home game. Never everhad to rely on the FFA to bail us out financially. Roar, CCM spring to mind. Just a few points to consider as evidence of the Nix getting right screwed. I can see why Asia don't allow us into their champions league but then we are a registered Australian club so to speak and should be allowed in there.

Did the ol' snoop around Transfermarkt, found a guy called Anton Postupalenko. He's a central midfielder who can play DM, CM and CAM. 29 years old, played his whole career in the Ukrainian Leagues. His contract technically ends on Jan 1, however he posted a goodbye to his club FC Olimpik Donetsk and left the club officially on the December 12 ( 4 days after Finkler left). Very next day when asked about what was next for his future he said he was happy to leave Ukraine to play overseas.

Why so many injuries this year? Signing old players?

it's been said before im sure - but the number of injuries we sustain seems to directly relate to the simple fact that the opposition teams now know that they can tackle our players harder than normal without being penalised. Take a look at Roly with Wanderers he's not getting smashed up nearly as often as he did with us.

I hunk our injuries have always been on par with others in the A-League though. Remember that other thread that used to have the stats but looking at list of current injuries we are lower or same than the other teams http://www.ultimatealeague.com/players.php?show=inj&l=All
