2017/18 Transfer Speculation

yeah i know but was more thinking for when/if the unnamed nix player people have been talking about getting released in early Jan actually goes. I think in an ideal scenario we let go of Watson or Lowry, probably most likely the latter but if it's both that could be decent. I like Watson and he's a nice guy but he just doesn't cut it at A-League level as we are all painfully aware of. I'd rather get another midfielder or a defender from the Handy Prem or something, surely there are some guys in there who could do a job for us

Lowry showed himself to be a serviceable HAL footballer when used. Watson hasn’t a fudgeing clue where the offside line is. How is releasing Lowry the better option?

A friend of mine went on a date with him and said to me that he had fallen out with the manager.

If Kalezic is never going to play him we're better to release him than keep paying him if he wants to go.

Schweinsteiger is open for options, chuck some big $ for a 6 month contract to organise our midfield, team spirit and work ethic.

I'm guessing Abbas is one that will be released in Jan, since we haven't seen anything of him since Rado left. Any others on the chopping block? Lowry?

Lowry can go to Perth and join his brother - they are losing a few u23 players.

Abbas would get picked up as a squadie if released and Watson, might try Scandanavia or similar in Europe if keen, otherwise back to Welly.

McGarry - what is he up to?

How many do we think are actually going to leave/be pushed out in January -Rossi, Lowry, Abbas, Watson? Others?

Can the owners replace them all and still be under the cap?

I don't think we would miss any of those. Rossi has been distinctly lower than expectations. I thought Lowry was ok but seems to have fallen out with the manager. Abbas and Watson, well , we could do better surely

Because he's not being used, at all. I like him, he hasn't put a foot wrong when he has got on the pitch - but clearly Kalezic doesn't like him so may as well release him. I think Abbas might go too, that was always a signing that was definitely pushed through by Rado; I think they worked together at Sydney, and as others have said we haven't really seen him play since. Add Watto to that list and we potentially could have 2 or 3 fresh signings to look forward to

Lowry has put a foot wrong on the pitch IIRC - last season he had a mare in one game. I think it was against Perth? But I think Rossi is the only defender we have who hasn't had an absolute shocker at least once. And his form has dropped off too even

This.

From what I've read, Rossi may not have "lived up to people's expectations", but it would be more to do with people's expectations than with Rossi's performance.  As an Italian defender from Serie A who has shown over the season that he is not accident-prone, has good work ethic and does not mind living in Wellington for a while, he is more than good enough for me. If Rossi decides to leave (and I have not heard anything to indicate that) then I will be the first to wish him well, name a goalpost at the RoF after him, and thank him for his uncomplaining reliable service.

In contrast, if Lowry does not play because he had a fallout with the gaffer, then that's not good for anyone involved. While he had a number of errors on the field that nearly cost us dearly, you might argue that this was not any worse than some stuff from  Mullen or even from Dura. However, it could be unrelated to his on-field performance and more to the attitude issues?

I doubt Lowry would be happy to play in Nix reserves in our domestic competition where nobody from the Australian scene would ever get to see him. It would be more sensible for him to play in a provincial level comp in Australia where he would get noticed if he was good enough.  Who knows, he might get picked up by Glory and have a cracker of a game against us, just to prove the point.

I can’t remember anything special about Lowry except Tratt was the better of the bunch who came at the time.

Speaking of Tratt, what the fudge? Hasn't had a club in a year, hope he's doing alright for himself. Even though we have fullback depth it wouldn't hurt to have him back in if Abbas or Lowry leave, him and Doyle could provide central cover too

Seen talk that is is training with Sydney atm, hoping for an ACL deal. Maybe he is over the issue that was keeping him out of football.

Tamati Williams released from Aalborg. Surely an international keeper's worth a shout, even if it's only for the season?

To be fair, a lot of that was caused by the earthquakes in Bonevacia and Finklers case.

Having a newborn baby halfway across the world from your family hands-on support is a tough assignment, as myself and my beloved can testify.  How it is managed by the player, the club and the player's agent is a separate issue though.

I think both Roly and Finkler had a good number of reasons for not staying here. Seeing Finkler leave was no real issue for mine, he never really did a lot for us. Roly on the other hand could have been one of our greats but I think for him there was the hope that by playing for another team he wouldn't get so mercilessly hacked by the opposition like he was for us. Plus at WSW he seems to be allowed to play with a lot more freedom.

Anyway, back to signings - I actually don't care who or where the players come from, as long as they want to play for us and they are of a reasonable quality.

This is our perennial problem and will only be fixed either by the improvement in refereeing standards, or by us actually contracting more Australian players of representative grade where the issue of hacking them down will immediately be seen in a different light.

More rumblings out of City that Kilkenny wants out, yes he is a bit of a wanker on the park but I still think he would add the steel to our midfield that we need atm.

Yes please! I'd love to have him in, you don't get awarded the club's 2016/17 player of the season for nothing

There is rumours that he is looking to come back but others have heard he is training with Sydney and maybe sign with them as a replacement for ACL duty

Dont seem to recall to many players being hacked when Ross played for us.A bit of friggen mongrel is what is needed, maybe ditching the no dickhead policy might help.Domt really get why you have to like them as long as they do the job on the field. Frankly results would count for me more than liking a player at the moment.FKN sick of being A league laughing stock.

I wonder about Lowry, he hasn't been seen for a will (doing his time in the WeeNix). Maybe he will leave and go back to Aus

If you check the thread a couple of pages back, there was a bit of chatter about Lowry allegedly falling out with the coach.

Tratt was on his way for a POTY nomination when he left. I'd have him back in a heart beat. He was improving all the time and really did tied up our then weakness.
