as to unaccompanied under 16's your argument is persuasive DLB and yet the club does need to cover itself in these changed times
agree with someone above who noted that it's a shame that some parents allow their kids into situations that then freak them out and the parents then try to pass the responsibilty on to others (i.e. the club)
maybe the 12-15 year olds can form a soprano and wobbly voice fever in aisle 20
or some of the more persuasive youths could drag one of their parents into the fever zone ("no dad, they call it football - you old f**kwit")
oh no, elder abuse in the zone
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

1) Alcohol is available in all parts of the ground, booze is no more available in the YFZ. I'm not sure how access would be any easier, I dont know anyone who buys beer to give away to an unknown underage.
2) There is the potential for this sort of thing to happen anywhere in the stadium, again Im not sure why its limited to the YFZ.
I can understand why (in todays nanny state) you are approaching this with caution, but I think the potential upside far outweighs any small risk (that isnt YFZ specific).
still no word from the club but then haven't had any emails in the last 2 days so could be a xtra problem grrrrrrrrrr whole other story!!
I also agree about keeping the younger fans safe and I am sure everyone else does too...only a small amount of people who go act like idiots which is a real shame for everyone not just the younger fans!
I don't really see how any of this applies.
Firstly, the Fever Zone isn't an exclusive area where alcohol is consumed at the stadium, and I would suggest that you're likely to see more drunken yobs outside the YF zone than inside...and what do you mean by "access is to easy"? Are you implying that YF members wouldprovide alcohol to people who are clearly under-age just because they're in the YF zone? That seems a very prejudiced view to me.
Secondly, after spending the whole season in the YF zone, I can't remember anything'dangerous' ever happening. There were times when families moved out from the zone, I would suspect because of the colourful language at times, which is their right, but majority of young ones in he zone just enjoy themselves and the Phoenix/Fever experience.
I think the biggest problem for the YF zone has been that there have often been occasions when people purchased tickets in Aisles 21 and 22 without knowing about the zone, and then got a bit of a shock initially. Some have chosen to leave, others to stay and even come back.
All that's really needed is that the club and Ticketek inform potential purchasers about the YF zone and what to expect there, and it'll all be fine.

What are they going to do ban R16s from four ailses ever side of the fever zone.
Its stupid..... how about letting parents decide whats best for their kids
Tony
I went to my first footy game as a 12 year old (Swindon Town vs Port Vale for the record) and have had a passion for the game ever since, when I say a passion for the game I'm not just talking about what happens on the pitch.
The Town End at the County Ground was the equivalent of the Fever Zone, it contained the group of supporters that generated the atmosphere. As a kid, nothing that compared to standing in the Town End and getting caught up in overall experience of a Saturday afternoon, learning the chants, celebrating the goals (like no other part of the ground) becoming a recognised regular, getting the bottle to try and start a chant for the first time (and the relief when others joined in), Saturday afternoons have given me some of my fondest childhood memories. Not once did I feel in any danger, threatened or uncomfortable, if anything I knew that as a kid others would look out for me. Of course I heard bad language and occasionally saw individuals acting like idiots, but I heard nothing that I hadnt heard in the playground and seeing the idiots made me realise that wasnt the type of supporter I wanted to be.
The years spent in the Town End as a kid have shaped me into the supporter I am today, there are many words I could use to describe the way I support my team but the one that I think really counts is loyal. The Phoenix are now seeing the benefits of the supporting through thick and thin mentality that my growing up with STFC has given me. For the sake of the club in years to come please give the kids a chance to be a part of the amazing atmosphere of the fever zone, if you get it right now youll have laid a solid foundation for not only years to come, but generations. Think about how good you'll feel when you walk around our fair city and the Phoenix shirts outnumber those from Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Cheers

I don't know what you where like in your adolescence prof but you have some pretty strange views on what 15 year olds are like these days.
My mates and I don't go to the Phoenix to steal drunk guys beers and complain and moan to our parents when drunk people walk into us. We go to support the phoenix vocally and the best place to do that is in the zone.
Also at some games we didn't sit in the zone and we still got beer thrown on us by the d*ckheads at the back of 23. But I didn't care because the phoenix had scored
People drink all over the ground and your pretty short sighted not
to see that.As for the language honestly I couldn't care less. You can hear a lot worse stuff at school. chocnut2008-01-24 12:35:17
not your main point but
>> "I'm focussing on the Zone are becuse the zone is there for people who a) want to stand, dance chant and sing throughout the game," << -yes, absolutely
>> "and b) want to drink a lot." << perhaps for a 'minority', but in my view when someone is too pissed to chant (thankfully a rare occurrence) they are no longer adding anything to the Zone, the team or the game
i think and hope the zone is far more about the chanting than it is about drinking

dont know where I stand on this. I must say I don't like it as much when there is a bunch of young kids in our midst. Felt a bit like babysitting. It's nice to get a flow on of the same lads from the pub before hand. Just my opinion though.

no problems Tony I think its my own home email that is playing up, as I sent myself some stuff from work and it still hasn't arrived!
I sent an email to the link I got from the Phoenix site memberships@wellingtonphoenix.com
I am happy with your comment on here regarding family passes for next season
I was just curious after reading stuff on here about the kids in fever zone so thought I would see about re purchasing our family pass.

I got landed on by a drunk for Ross aloisi's shorts
cheeky, I stil get asked how old i am!! apparently i only look like 25. I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud old fart, just aware of how these things can end up if somoene, namely the club isn't careful. this countyr is so PC now that even the slightest misdemenour can end an awesome thing! I think tony P and the crew have gotit right. If you are under 16 (if that's the final age cutoff) then bring your mum/dad to the Zone with you! simple really

hard life my arse!
I kinda agree with you in regards to the kids thats why I take mine...well and they are too young to go alone!
I just asked them how they would feel if we couldn't sit in the zone they were not happy
I said does it freak you out being in there both said no...younger one said only time he was scared was when the drunk guy started abusing us...RC initials if anyone knows him he would scare anyone

I take my dad and sometimes my brother so there is enough adults around my kids to watch out for them! And I must say there are a few around us that looked out for them too, got to know them seeing them every few weeks and they had a good laugh with the boys
I have no issue with kids in the zone! unattendedkids/minors - whatever is not appropriate. I'm not the one making the call on the age, i initially mentioned under 14, if the club goes with under 16 then so be it. I personally would not allow my kids go into the zone with out me there, and I think most of us agree with that. The issue seems to be with the 15/16 yr olds who want to attend the games in the Zone without their parents? not my call, I could care less with what age the Zone is restricted to it doesn't affect me. But if the Zone is shut down because something happens, then I'll be most unhappy about it all.
