Good idea. Straight swap (plus we pay the difference)! Just get someone who can get the ball into the f**king box and clean out defenders.

I think i would keep him,but not as a marqee player.
If he could back himself more offen and go round players,
he could be really dangerous.
He's quick and has a good shot on him.Next season i"m sure we"ll see a different Ahmed.

I wouldn't keep him. He only looks quick cos he has little legs. He's not fit/fast enough to beat his marker and deliver quality crosses.

My prediction; he won't be offered marquee status again because of his poor showing this season and he will bugger off somewhere else.

If I knew a bit more about what he was being paid then i might have a definite opinion on whether we keep him or let him go. $ = value

NO was originally a bit of US anti-drug sloganeering, ``no was backed by a lot conservative dogma which was busy establishing and reinforcing a new status quo in cultural thought. That new norm was based in conservative thinking (not an oxymoron), which basically seeks to conserve what is traditional, usually at the expense of the new and innovative. Given the on-going Cold War tensions and slumping economy of that era, ``No was an idea whose time had come. It looked like a good vehicle for preserving status quo because it appeared to empower the individual to slow down the rate of change in their lives. When everything in the world seemed particularly dangerous or chaotic, ``no exerted a seductive pull. It seemed to promise us both security and safety.

So, when asked "Should Ahmad Sign for 08/09 season?" our answer should be bold and strong and emphatic - YES!!!!!

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The main reason I say no, is
I think his attitude is a negative factor on the other players.
He gave a long pass to Smeltzy in the 2nd half, after one of his rare drop backs to defend and then screamed at Smeltz when someone intercepted it. He makes mistakes and then stands still. Even Felipe works his butt off to get the ball back if he loses it. If your marquee player displays that sort of selfish attitude, other players, might not play to their best either.
IOf we could swap him for Bertos that would be great imo

I wouldn't want him anywhere else in the A-League, it's almost a guarantee he'd come good.

I agree with you OOE. His attitude seems a bit poisonous.

Even on the Sydney forum they're talking about Elrich's inability to get the ball beyond the first defender, and saying Sydney were lucky that the Phoenix philosophy seemed to revolve around getting it out wide to Elrich.

HN, I take your point, but I can't see why a full time pro hasn't got it together after the amount he has now had to adjust and get fit etc. Perhaps it's an attitude thing that needs repair.

Have to say though, watching Leo tonight, he's got far more of the qualities we need than I've seen in any match Elrich has played. No contest.

i think elrich has been pretty poor last few games, but im giving him a bit of slack because:

- he has NOT been playing for 2 years, last time was with Fulham
- he is NOT fully fit

negatives:

- he throws his dummy out of the pram every single time he is subbed, he always kicks chairs, throws away the training jacket, kicks bottles, whatever.

BUT

I think he has potential, i think next season he can be a better player, i think we SHOULD sign him for 2008/09 BUT NOT AS A MARQUEE player, just a normal player as i dont believe he warrants the title of marquee player.

I think it's all about who we can get to replace him, if you're talknig about christie, mulligan etc I'd say no, but if we're talking about a marquee player in his position then yeah, may not be worth brining him back. I agree with HN though, a guy with good pace and good techique will come good.

Much as I'm not his biggest fan, to say the least, maybe his tantrums after being subbed are more to do with his frustration at himself and how he's not performing as he thinks he can rather than simply being hacked off about being subbed, as such. Might just be that he's as pissed off as quite a lot of the fans are that he's not delivering the goods. Just a thought.

Also agree with all the people who say he's got the ability, I've never denied that, but I'll have to see a lot more from him in the last couple of games before I'm convinced he should be with us next year

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Felipe is one of the hardest workers in the team imo. It might just be because of his short legs but he always seems buggered by about the 70th min because he has run around the whole pitch.

Elrich is a hugely talented player - no doubt there, but i think he is a bit precious when it comes to effort, when a guy like Felipe can give every ounce of his energy in a game and still fight, there is no comparison, i hope Elrich isn't signed for next season, and if he is i jhope he pulls his act together!!

I read on the news on the front page that he pulled out of training with an ankle injury. so that measn 1) that he's injured and prob won't play on Friday
or 2) that it was too bloody hot and he wanted a rest

I agree with the atitude thing, he's had plenty of time to get back his fitness now. Playing him as a wingback in a 3-5-2 probably wasn't the best decision either, they have to be the fittest in the park, effectively covering both RB and RW so the boys in the centre can boss it. He hasn't got the skills or vision to beat a man it seems, let alone free up enough space to deliver a cross.  I noticed that pass to Coveny and the subsequent bollocking he issued him too, those balls up to isolated strikers have been caught out often this season.

To summerise: I don't like his attitude, no1 is bigger than the Phoenix. If he can get himself fit and sees himself as an equal in the team, not better than them, then yeah who in the league wouldn't have him?
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

I think it's a bit rough to say he's disruptive or has a bad attitude because of a few petulant moments on the park. Different people react differently on the pitch, some are more animated, others calmer. It's more about what he does day to day in training, everything else is just conjecture.

Some players just don't have the heart muscle, no matter what level they play at.

A side like the Phoenix needs lotsa players with lotsa heart muscle. Elrich on that basis may not be a suitable player to retain.

Maybe you could train him up to get him fit on that Nairn Street dustbowl of yours SportZone.

Animated reactions are fine, passion should be encouraged, but always positive thats all. But your right, we're not really in a position to make a holistic judgement given we only see him on gameday.
