Dont think i have spoken to anybody who has actually ever been asked what they watch on sky, would be interesting to learn just where they get their viewing figures from.Hold it  thats right it comes from those mysterious boxes that are supposedly in some homes.
Nothing like being screwed over by a breadcaster in NZ,its something we are well used to.

No, sky will be from the boxes that sky use.  They will capture data.  Although I don't think mine have ever successfully linked using the phone slot they plug in to.

It's why I advocate booking any A-League games at the start of the week so even if you are in bed the stats say you watched them.

Well that programming info would seemingly be the go switch for YF to launch a protest like we were an evangelical church! Dear leaders what be the Fevers first step in protest and how may we assist?
Im thinking keep it simple to start, maybe pointing out they are advertising the A-League so it would follow it should be on, from there maybe a march down Lambton all in RRs chanting some variation of Sky are cock sucking morons?

My references to numbers and reasons were not meant as apologies for what SKY would say, just an explanation of their likely explanations... but as others have said, if it doesn't rate, then they're unlikely to give it as much attention... the World Cup, the Euros, the English Prem all generate big numbers so they get good attention...

With the A-League, I don't know for certain but I would say there would be a cost to Fox for coverage from Australia, with probably only the Phoenix games being free as a quid-pro-quo for the broadcasts from Wellington on to Fox network (again, no basis for saying this, purely assumption).  So perhaps the powers-that-be have decided that that cost, whatever it is, is not worth it... not a great decision from a fan's perspective, but again, it won't affect their subscriber base...

The amount of channels available through digital now means there is a constant need for content, and a cheap form of that is replays... so yes, old rugby games will be replayed a lot, as they've already been paid for... again, it's frustrating, but that is the thinking.

As for football, it is my humble belief that SKY could produce a comprehensive weekly show that covered off every major comp in the world, including European Leagues, A-League, local, Champions League, Libertadores, MLS etc etc, without spending a single dollar more than they currently do... the rationale and method for this has been explained to the relevant people, but fell on deaf ears... so that's that really.

And in all this, spare a thought for the people who've essentailly had their jobs/income slashed by this move too - we may have less to watch, but they may need to look for other jobs... puts things in perspective a bit.

But above all, it is great to read that NZ football fans are passionate about their sport and are actually prepared to demand better quality coverage than what is served up - for too long we've just accepted whatever is given and said "better than nothing".

SKY may be angering you here, but don't forget how much football they've shown in the past when no other network would touch it... and whatever their faults, they never cut away to the news during extra time of a Chatham Cup final...

People can forget about a dedicated football channel as well.
Unless sky can broker deals with some very large companies it would be hugely expensive as they would have to purchase most of the content from offshore, and I dont know who has the oceania/pacific/ aus rights to a lot of cometitions as they all broker thier own deals. To put all that content on one channel would remove it from existing channels. and Sky purchase ESPN as a package intact and have no say in what content is shown. they would be effectively doubling up content as ESPN has english FA matchs, CL matches, Europa league matchs, La Liga, Serie A, and maybe the Scootish PL (the Setanta debacle is still being sorted out)

NZ is just too small for a dedicated football channel

Do you know anything about this?

I was hoping with the new deal in the UK that Scottish games might get shown but am beginning to lose hope again. It's a total joke that Setanta Oz owns the rights for the whole of Oceania

well im guessing this will help with that thread in the english football forum regarding online football viewing. We could get one of the YFers to host our own halftime shows for matchs. all you need is a webcam and one of the many free webstream hosting sites.

Ive looked into it and its a similar deal to ESPN just without NZ . ESPN bought UEFA's rights for Oceania, and seeing as they have a channel here and in Aus (both are run from Aus but have slightly different programming) we get to see it. Setanta don't want to/cant get into NZ. Best bet is to watch online. Don't Celtic have their own online TV broadcasts?

I can watch online no problem, Hibs have their own interactive service as well. However, it's much better on TV and also gives the opportunity to have mates over or go to the pub to watch etc.

Setanta are missing a trick IMO, I would certainly pay to subscribe and I know quite a few others would like to watch the Scottish football, there's enough of us over here!

For what its worth, I have sent my email to Sky using same link as Scoop and others did.

Attention:John Fellet- CEO
cc:Kevin Cameron- Director of Sport, Richard Last-Director of Sports Content and New Media

We have heard that Sky TV may not be broadcasting the full schedule of Hyundai A-League games this season, despite the fact that Sky are busily promoting The A-League in the upcoming August highlights.
If this is in fact the case, we wish to state our strong disapproval.

We have responded to Sky's promotion of MySky HDi with the express intention of watching the expanded A-League this 09/10 Season!!
If it is not fully available,... We would like to know.. Why Not?

By the way, You should update your option in the next frame from this Online Help page

"will Sky be showing the  Hyundai A-league 08/09 Season?"
Its now 09/10 season!
and continuing..
you connect through that FAQ link option to mention the NZKnights,
who ceased to exist in pre-season 07!
New Zealand now has our team, the Wellington Phoenix in the Hyundai A-League in this, their third season.

Considering the amount of money the numerous fellow football subscribers such as our family spend with Sky, one would think your organisation would have sufficient respect and care enough about your customers to keep your content up-to date and relevant....
Does Sky actually care about its local football viewing audience?

Subject Attention:John Fellet- CEO cc:Kevin Cameron- Director of Sport, Richard Last-...    Discussion Thread  Response (SKY Customer Relations)29/07/2009 12.25 PM Hello

Hello

Thank you for your email.

Initially our contract for the A-League were to show LIVE Phoenix games only, with no rights to show any others. Fortunately we were able to extend our contract terms to include all games though please be aware that not all of these will be LIVE, and because of the late contract change we will play these games where we can. Some we can bring in LIVE others will either be delayed or shown where scheduling allows.

Thank you again for your comments which I have forwarded to our Sports Department and their respective channel managers.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

what caught my eye was the heading "discussion thread" above the reply..is that just a generic term for this type of reply
or would they be monitoring our threads?

Translation:
We thought we could get away with only showing Phoenix matches, but after considerable adverse customer feedback, decided to secure rights to show all A-League matches. But rather than pay a little more for full live rights, we'll get only one live per week and pretend that we don't have any slots available to play more.

Sky's treatment of the A League is disgusting and I will personally call John Fellet tomorrow and raise the issue with him and will speak to the FFA tomorrow. Reading the Sky magazine the games they are showing in the 1st round are:

Aug 6 Melbourne v Central Coast - not shown
Aug 7 Adelaide v Perth not shown at all
Aug 8 Nth Qld v Syd - Live on SS 3 - 7.30pm
Aug 8 Qld v GC Utd  - Not shown
Aug 8 Newcastle V Phoenix - Live on SS 1 at 5pm

Thats 2 out of 5 games - NOT GOOD ENOUGH

I would accept 2 games live and some delayed but not this.

Time for action we need to keep pushing the issue with Sky. As a a lover of football and customers of sky the treatment of our sport is disappointing.

Yes the interest should be in the A-league football and showing not just the Phoenix games. It does not help anyone who wants to keep up and build up knowledge of the rest of the league or stimulate football discussions. Nor does it help to analysize the opponents, reassessing strengths and weakness in our game in general.

Thanks in advance for giving them the stir up, Tony.AllWhitebelievr2009-07-29 23:59:23

Cheers Tony P.
Glad to hear this from you.
Hopefully hearing it directly from someone like yourself with credibility and a position of responsibility in the football community may make a difference.

Perhaps a few other Football leaders and execs, particularly Wellington-based ones, should be co-ordinating with Tony to register a united and strong protest on behalf of all nz football supporters.

And.... when you point out that only 2 of five games are going to be shown in the first week ..That's bloody ridiculous!

I want to see the new  recruits from every team...  the new teams in action for the first time...its exciting, a  new  season (finally!)
and  Sky are paying it lip service!!

and  WE ARE PAYING.....
