If I'm near a Phone I might nominate Sky for Gumboot on ZB at 11:45am this Friday, unless Ted beats me too it.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Round two golf highlights at 7pm on SS3, followed by a repeat of Premier League World, and then a repeat of the same round two golf highlights at 10pm on SS1 is what we get instead of the Saturday matches. The same programme show consecutively! I've emailed Sky to ask how that can be justified.

And round three golf on Sunday evening.

I also don't get the four hours straight of Fox News on Sunday mornings. Does anyone really watch that?

Would Sky ever consider releasing viewership numbers for A-League games (and golf)?

I'd certainly like to know the numbers for each of the golf highlights, particularly those that follow the ones that have just been on!

Tony P - can you sort SKY out please ?

i hate watching the games on my laptop ( even though i have 40gb of broadband  )

i think we should get in a group of investors and make an all football broadcasting station.

$10 a month for :

All LIVE EPL
All LIVE SPL
All LIVE Serie A
All LIVE La Liga
All LIVE A-League (of course)

and hell, any other league there is out there.

surely we would get HEAPS of subscribers.

i know what i will do if i win lotto.

Fox Sports have the English Championship now so chuck that in there as well.

Don't forget FA Cup, Champions League, Asian Champions League, Carling Cup, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup, Europa League etc etc.

I would pay about $30 - $50 a month for that lot!!

There are plenty of Scots in NZ for starters, it's a total farce that the SPL is not shown as I am sure the big games would get plenty of viewers considering the times the games would be shown.

As a mate said to me the other day, ESPN are missing a trick down here showing all that American rubbish nearly 24/7 - if they showed all of the above they'd have the market cornered!

Again our contractual obligations with sports such as golf include airing highlights of a particular round, a certain amount of times before the next LIVE round. Unfortunately with the late inclusion of the other A-League games it's very hard to schedule these amongst the other LIVE sports which we are very busy with especially over the weekend so we will schedule matches where we can LIVE however others will be delayed. We appreciate your frustration and have registered this with our sports department as feedback.

That's impressively patronising with all the LIVE's in it... particularly ironic when they are talking about bumping LIVE A-League for NOT LIVE Golf... I also like how they make the late inclusion of A-League games sound like it is the A-League's fault rather than the fact that they originally planned to huimp us even more.

Well done SKY feedback people, a new low in customer service.

It's not like the A-League draw has only just been released either, very poor form from Sky.

OK, the first part is utter sh*t from Sky. They have a dedicated 24/7 highlights channel to show highlights of sports 'a certain number of times' before the next live round. If they are so tied into Golf contracts that require them to schedule repeats 24/7, then make a dedicated Golf channel, and get the bullsh*t repeats off the LIVE SPORTS channels.

Second part indicates to me that Sky never intended to show any A-League games other than the Phoenix games. The only reason they are putting the other games on is because of the uproar from people here and in other media.

A dedicated Football channel wont happen in NZ for a while. there are no country's in the world that i can think of that all the soccer leagues mentioned are shown by the same broadcaster. Even the UK is divided up between ITV, ESPN, Sky, BBC. UberGunner2009-08-14 15:18:36

That's because any such broadcaster would have a monopoly in a country where football is the number 1 sport, this being the very reason that the EPL has been split into separate 'packages' which 1 broadcaster is not allowed to own all of.

Over here there should be no such issue and 1 channel could legitimately purchase all of the above IMO, and I reckon they would do ok as long as they had to pay a fair price.

Fox Sports in Oz has nearly all of the above other than the SPL, which Setanta still has.

What's this 'late inclusion' of A-League games that Sky are on about? There is only ONE extra game they have put on so far and the fixtures have been out for months!

Surely even with these contractual obligations for golf, they could put them on during the day when there is not much live sport actually on? Perhaps instead of showing delayed coverage of games and golf highlights in place of live games, they could put the golf highlights in place of the delayed games and just show the live games! Makes too much sense obviously!

One important distinction we should be aware of is the fact that sky sport 1 and sky sport 2 are Sky's HD channels.
Sky seem to treat them separately from sky sport 3 and the highlights channel as they roll out MySky HDi services.
My guess is Sky are probably being extremely sensitive to maintaining some sort of balanced mix of sports in those new offerings on 1 and 2 so as not to appear too top heavy with anything in particular (except rugby!)
We see double-ups of programmes or sports across 4 channels.. they are looking at two separate sets of 2 channels and see no problems!! Bloody marvellous for them...piss poor for us.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

And that is exactly why its a rubbish excuse. There is 24 hours in a day,3 sports channels (4 if you're playing highlights,or can just open the channel up),so that 72 or 96 hours worth of space they can fit those highlights, yet they show it in the 90mins in which the football is on?

Erm no thanks,not buying it

And guess what Sky are showing instead of tonight's live A-League games..... more golf highlights!

On SS3 while GC v NQ is being played there are two hours of golf highlights then when Mel vs Bris is on later they replay the same two hour highlights package on SS1.

This thread will serve as an excellent  record of Sky's poor performance in providing us the service we want.
We know they had plenty of notice with A-League schedules posted long ago.
When it became apparent there were issues in their published schedules we contacted them..including Nix CEO Tony P to Sky's CEO John Fellet...no significant change.
We have told them we are unhappy.. they have failed to rectify.

Sky effectively is saying "you will watch what we choose to show you,
when we choose to show it"

There are sound reasons, explanations, (in their logic) excuses.
This is not providing a service to their customers when and where they want it.

As so often happens in business, companies with outmoded ways of doing things soon become relics.

New business models emerge, providing cheaper, faster service to more people.
New technology breakthroughs and opportunities already exist in broadcasting.
Look at the effect MP3, Napster and other file-sharing technologies had, very rapidly, on the music industry.

Same will go for Sky if they're not careful.

If I were Sky, I'd be powering up their broadband delivery service, triple time, and allowing customers  to access ( for a fee) what we want, when we want it....
 before someone else does!.

Why is it that today on Sky 3 at 7pm they are showing the PGAa highlights for 2 hours from 7 to 9pm and then the same show on sky 1 from 10pm until midnight. They could have shown live Melbourne v Brisbane which has kick off 9.30pm.

How can SKy explain that?  I am so frustrated having to watch the games on the internet.

There has to be a solution or a compromise. We need to keep putting pressure on Sky.

Does the FFA not have an opinion on Sky's sh*t A-League coverage? It doesn't look good for them either if they're trying to grow the game to keep the AFC bosses happy.

What about NZ Football? Do they even pay attention to what football coverage is shown on TV? It only helps their cause to have more local football shown also.

I am stunned more hasn't been made of this outside of the usual circles of the Phoenix staff and supporters.

i don't think they will stop covering Nix games if we chant at home, they'll risk further embarassment if they do

so if we chant w/o obscenities (tempting though it is to throw a few in) then my guess is we can embarrass Sky and let them know we will do our best to damage their commercial reputation if they persist in trying to minimise the growth of football in NZ

the stuff they are showing in place of live football is ridiculous
