But we all knew that answer was just a lie/fob off.  I see they are back to form answers now and even Tony P is getting them.  Guess that is what you get when the broadcaster has hundreds of millions invested in propping up rival codes.

Live sport ? They're taking the piss.

Just looked at this weekends fixtures and it looks like the Nix game is the only live A-league game this weekend.  But to be fair for most of the games it because of live Air NZ Cup, NRL, Cricket (Black Caps and Ashes), but on Sunday instead of Perth v Newcastle they have:

SS1 - Sky Sports: Whats On, ITM Fishing Show, Sport 365, Rugby: This Given Sunday
SS2 - NRL DELAYED
SS3 - Ice Hockey Live, NASAR H/L, Bike Rider TV

So much for commited to showing live sports

at least the ice hockey is the NZ National Ice Hockey team, I cant complain about that.

I can handle a reasonable delay without too much complaint, though obviously live would be better. What I can't swallow is a delay of several days.

Two test matches, NZ v Sri Lanka and Aus v England. I know you are new in NZ and Scottish to boot but you cant seriously think Sky would choose A-League football over either of those 2?

yeah, no problem with Friday night (although it would be nice to think they could just put the extra game on the highlights channel on occasions of surplus live sport.)  Sunday night however is taking the piss - Ice Hockey is great, can't argue with any NZ national team being shown live, but the fishing show and Sport 365!?

Edit: Just noticed the 'Sky Sport: Whats On'.  They are showing a f**king Filler!?  Wheres Stefan now to try and say that Sky Sport: Whats On is going to have larger ratings than A live A League game

Commitment to LIVE sport my arse.

What has Aus v Eng got to offer cricket fans in NZ when a NZ relevant match is on? And especially when NZ cricket have a match being shown on a different channel a the same time? I would expect a NRL game between two Aus teams to be show because there is relevance to a NZ sports team. Similarly, you would normally expect the same of A-League games for the same reason.

I realise cricket is mindnumbingly slow and dull, but is it so bad that cricket fans channel surf during games?

Yes, the ASHES has as much relevance, as the premier league.  Are you complaining of premier league being shown as there are no NZ teams in that comp.

Australia v England will rate higher than NZ v Sri Lanka, its the 5th test of the Ashes Series. Its the pinnacle of  NZs summer sport. Its got nothing to do with relevance to a NZ team, I would argue though that NZers love nothing more than watching Poms and Aussies get beat, when they are doing it to each other its even better.

EDIT: Post reading what guy above said, exactly the point. Relevance to NZ doesn't matter, we haven't been at a football world cup since 82, the others since then have been irrelevant so why put them on TV?

Really? Wow, I'm amazed. Hey ho.

aitkenmike - I would absolutely complain of Premier League being shown instead of A-League, but they're never going to be on at the same given the 13 hour time difference.

I was just assuming that the Friday 10pm slot was pretty much 'booked in' but now it's gone so that cricket fans can watch 2 games at once and football fans can watch...nothing.

Just to reiterate - we're discussing this in the context of something being shown INSTEAD of, not as well as.

It's like the AFL game the other week. No problem with Sky showing AFL.... but in the place* of a match in a NZ-relevant comp and had an All White playing?

*We eventually got the season opener though.

How about Sky invest in an Interactive service like in the UK?

For example, when the Champions League is on, you press the red button on your remote, and you can choose what game you want to watch (usually a choice of 6 different games) - this came in YEARS ago so it can't be too difficult.

Hmm, let's see what  you get. Saturated EPL coverage?  Every game of the Confederations Cup?  Every game of the World Cup and Euro championships? Every Phoenix game live? Occasional live game of a very low-rate football league, just because Phoenix are part of it?  I would say not that bad.

There was nothing low-rate (except North Queensland fury) with any of the A-league we were unable to watch live last weekend, it was all pretty good stuff, Smeltz's 4 goals in GCU's 5-0 demolition job on NQF,  the 3-3 draw in Melbourne even the Sydney Adelaide game was a good game
Sucks to be an A-league fan if you want to watch it live on sky

Saturated EPL? That, my friend, is PATENTLY false.

Not even SKY in the UK gets SATURATED coverage. This is because

1. the total number of broadcastable games is restricted by the FA.
2. Competition for games is spread between networks.

So, I've determined you're a SKY TV apologist.

I'm sure a few people care, and probably more than many A-League games... but then again, that is what you get from 25 years of coverage (including early years of prime time FTA coverage).  The brand is built, people know the teams and the players.

The A-League will never be given that chance.  As for blanket EPL coverage, it's pretty easy to put on a sport that is shown live at 1:00 AM in the morning, but it's the first thing dropped if they can fill the spot with any other sport.

Ah, I have been waiting for somebody to mention this.  NRL is the best you can get of Rugby League.  That is if you are a fan of the sport (I personally don't give a sh*t about it).  Having a NZ team there adds a lot of interest of course.

same can be said about the a-league, but SKY turn their heads the other way unfortunately.

I remember having Sky TV when I was living in London.

Cost a shyteload and stuff all footy on it.

Lots of golf though. I still have yet to find someone who actually enjoys watching televised golf but whereever I go on this planet, turn on a television and there it is.

The Warriors get about 5000 more fans than the Phoenix in a much bigger city - are the interest levels really that much different?

I don't know anyone who watches the Warriors who really watches any of the other NRL games that are on over the weekend.

Your Sky in the UK had no football on it? How did that happen exactly? Or did you have Sky NZ?

My cousins take days off work to watch rubbish like the British Open / Ryder Cup etc. I've never understood it.

Don't know anyone in NZ who is a TV golf fan though.

I also reckon you'd struggle to find another country in the world where golf highlights are shown ahead of live football.
