I can understand showing the Curling, as it is part of the Winter Games.
BUT...

To then tell a customer that   "LIVE sport is on instead of a Replay, because LIVE sport gets preference"   is absolute f**king Rubbish.

I am talking to the converted. But that is the most hypocritical thing to come out of SKY so far. Every man here, has been asking that LIVE sport take Preference in Skys schedule,  But only when it suits them i gues.

At least come out and say "We don't like the A League, so you may as well stop ringing up" Then at least we could move on.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Well you are 100% right about that. They don't like the A-League. Why would they?, the only games that apparently rate well are Nix games, the rest are all lemons ratings wise.
An example from my line of work would be my pub and our beer.
If we had a tap beer that very few people drank, and swapped it out for another beer that was more palatable to a broader market, we would piss a few people off for sure, but in the long run, it makes sense to stock a product with broader appeal as it improves the odds that a larger cross section of customers will find a product to their taste, more of the time. (eg we swapped out Oranjeboom for Speights summit- took some flak, but they kept drinking)

A-league games not involving the Nix for the last 2 years would have been really hard products to sell. With smeltz and a couple of other Kiwi's doing well I'm sure interest is improving, and this seasons viewing figures will (hopefully) show that, but they only have the last 2 seasons, and the Kings/knights era viewing figures to go by.

She used those exact words to me. I pointed out that it's not a replay, it's delayed coverage from Saturday and I could understand live sport taking preference if it wasn't for the fact that they had already passed on live coverage in favour of golf highlights. Her response was to repeat live sport is always giving preference.....

I agree with you completely, however I think the issue has moved slightly now to the fact Sky are lying to us. Come out and say what you just have then I think people wouldn't have a problem but they have talked a lot of sh*t the whole way through this.

The analogy does not work. To apply the following would need to be true:
- your pub was the only source of beer in NZ
- you charged a monthly fee for people to have access to the pub but once in the beer was free

The Curling is a different beast completely, contractually they had to show that as its part of Winter Games which the government sponsors and im guessing sky put some money into.

Yeah. If SKY had come out and said. "The A League sucks and. so f you want to watch it, use the net." Then That is that.

But they have been going around promising things and then not delivering.

They promised AT LEAST two live games a week. - Failed to Deliver.
They Claim that LIVE sport will get Preference - Failed to Deliver

I do agree with a lot you say UberGunner, But surely you can empathize with that, and not except being Lied to by SKY?

Oh, so if Ubergunner was contractually obligated to sell crappy, unpopular beer, he would. Either way, the overly simplistic "what is more popular sells better" argument isn't gaining much cred.

My patience with sky is running out also.
I understand them reducing their coverage for business reasons, but when they say they are going to show a certain amount of live games by mid august when the media starts sniffing around the story, and haven't yet delivered on the promise, it gets harder to defend them.

(the reason i tend to take a devils advocate role is i have an overly developed sense of empathy)

I think they need to come out reasonably soon with an announcement of their intentions re A-league football. Do we need to be asking the sponsors why they pulled out, or is it solely down to sky, tightening the belt and trimming the fat.
The amount of angst they have created by promising to have the product available to a certain standard by a certain date and not doing so, is worse than them dropping it in the first place.

I see Sky sport are still advertising "A-League" games as part of their monthly sports coverage.

I think the Commerce Commission should make a ruling on their false advertising, because pulling their coverage of even the delayed games means they are only showing "Wellington Phoenix" games, not "A-League" games.

Let's just say 'unlikely'.

YEah I know, Im just wishful thinking really. Hoping. Praying that they (sky) keep there word and play live A-league games.

Infact I bet you if it was the still the NZ Kings (based in Auckland) I bet you the games would be live.

Frustrating thing is none of the Media care about this issue any more. SKY came out and said how they wee going to show a decent amount of coverage. Of course we know no that was complete garbage. But it was enough to ward of anyone picking up the story.

What more can we do i wonder. Emails didn't work. Tony,Terry didn't work.

The Football Kingz were by the end often the only games in the league with TV coverage so most weeks they were the only game shown and if Sky couldn't engage an Australian camera crew even they weren't shown.

Pretty sure the Knights seasons got similar coverage to what the Phoenix did the last two seasons.

Well it they (sky) are promising to play A-league games and are not then surely there is a someone we can complain too because its the subscribers YOUR MONEY at the end of the day!

If we all keep complaining then surely they will listen. Just like Cadbury choclate debarcle that was sorted out after numerous complaints. I'll be going to the next Phoenix game at the cake tin with my big banner saying "MSG TO SKY - STOP RIPPING US OFF AND PLaY A-LEAUGE LIVE U BASTARDS!!"

That banner would take up half of the wall between Aisles 22 to 24. Mind you it would look good and deliver a message.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Make sure you put it on the far side of the stadium, where everyone in the ROF can see it. Don't put it with the crowd as it will stop the broadcasters from sky showing shots of the fans in that area. you do realise sky would never show a banner dissing them on TV.

How could they not if it was at the front on the opposite side from the main camera?

they would get red badge to take it down, and someone would have another 20 page rant on these forums about it.

Sky TV denies freedom of expression!

They really need to get an Interactive service - there seems to be no reason this isn't available. So, when there are 2 NRL games on at the same time, BOTH can be on Sky Sport 1, you choose which one you want to watch by pressing the red button.

I think it's already clear there is not enough room on their schedules for everything, this would be one way of getting around that.

Stuff like that will happen Steve-O, Sky TV is always behind the times and will implement them well after Britain or Australia do it. I remember playing with my uncle's Foxtel version of MySky about 5 years ago.
