Im very proud of the boys. Its been an awesome year. Tonight was a downer but hey, thats life. Sydney were obviously the better team tonight. But we had some very nice moments where we looked like we were going to score. We just couldnt finish in the final quarter. Lets try to be mature about the whole Paynegate thing.

Take the Sydney hat off please.

I've never shouted so many expletives in my life. f**k being mature, he cheated hundreds of Wellington fans that travelled over (great work btw) out of a fair game.

Ricki saying similar right now. Good on him.

What im saying is, Be mature about it and reflect on the season past.
Take that attitude in the 'thank you' thread. In match thread- be as f**ked off about the match as you want.

Big up's to the NIX. Great season even though we played like crap tonight. And yes Payne you cheating bastard. You have to be angry with that, but then again that's just football.

To be honest with all of you. A Melbourne v Sydney grand final bores the crap out of me.

Anything A-League that doesn't invlove the nix bores the crap out of me.

Pity to end the season on such a downer but that lads and ladettes is Football. You win some. You lose some.

Thanks for the season. It's been a blast

You get cheated some.

Remember all the sh*te and backlash regarding Henry's handball goal against Ireland.
Cheating is cheating no matter what spins put on it by our Aussie cousins. The 3rd goal was off side as well. Silence was deafening from the very biased Aussie commentators. t**sers.
Anyway the Phoenix players and fans can hold their heads up high for an excellent season.
We all knew, deep down, we were not going to be allowed to progress to the final as this was never in the Aussie A League plan. Warriors/Phoenix...........issues of bias robe both teams.

Disappointed overall.

2nd goal, disgraceful. How it wasn't spotted by 4 officials, I will never know. Cheated.

However, we were the architects of our own downfall in many ways. Ifill, I thought, had a real nightmare. Lost possession at every opportunity, and was culpable, along with Lochhead at the first goal. He lost possession easily, and Lochhead was brushed off the ball like a little school kid.

3rd goal, Durante should have nailed him on the edge of the box with a sliding challenge. Even a penalty and/or red card would've been better than 3-1 at that stage.

Bertos was terrible and Daniel should've been on at half time. I cannot fathom why Bertos is unable to produce a decent pass or final ball on 90% of his attempts. It is simply not good enough at this level.

Alas, it's been a great season and just a pity we could not have taken it on just one week longer as I fancied our chances against Melbourne, more so than against Sydney as has been proven.

Certainly that hand ball goal made it difficult, and changed the game, unsettled us I thought and we rushed too much from then.

Bout time the games officialdom did something about it.If you cheat like that and claim a goal, and it  can later be proved  as an offence, then there should be a decent punishment, like a 6 month suspension

Sydney were better than us around the goal area, that made the difference to me. I am hoping we learn from playing all these big games and start strongly with that experience next year

been a GREAT season

Just back from the Palmy Speights Ale House

In the end tonight I'm proud of the lads. Yes tonight was not the best of nights of football, but we got this fa. And the handball did change the way we played the game. Pushing forward, three attacking subsitutions, we were always goig to leave ourselves vulnerable at the back.

Oh well. Next priority, re-sign McKain, we have a solid core to build on, another good stirker and bring on next year. Thanks for this season boys, I look forward to the next one

Indeed, was terrible.

I don't even think we should've even had to play Sydney, the format of the finals is a heap of pish!!! Sydney lose a semi final, but get to play in another semi final. Nonsensical.

Ifill was obviously injured....the gossip from the Wellington physios was a medial ligament strain. He might have had a needle just to get on the field. Tim Brown was carrying a knock too.

We should not blam them for underperforming when injured. With them subpar..there goes our two best goal scorers.

I wonder where they stored the cattle that were grazing on the pitch just before kickoff?

Sorry, but if players are not match fit, they should not play, no matter who they are. Ifill was chosen to start so he is fair game for criticism.

He's had an amazing season, no doubt, but he was distinctly off form tonight and never found a Phoenix player all night.

I think it is a great finals system. The top 2 teams get rewarded for their seasons efforts and the next 4 get a decent chance to get through.

Must be the only knock out competition in the world where a team who has been knocked out still ends up in the final anyway.

agree with the comments about the pitch - was it specially prepared wet and cut-up?

Next season we better make sure the RoF is in similar conditiion so the guys get used to playing on bad pitches.

Lia, Lochhead, Greenacre, Hearfield, Brown - all anonymous and crap today.  Can't afford to have that many players doing so badly.

Would add Dadi to that list but for his goal.

And Ifill - he was crap, despite his great season.

Greenacre has been crap 90% of the season. Simply not good enough IMO.

Sack Greenacre...or find him a permanent partner at least. He cannot play up front by himself. Why we are still attempting this tactic 30 odd games into a season, I will never know.

Yeah, Greenacre was close to the golden boot, scored a barrowload.
