Sad result, poor discipline partially resulted in a red card, Bertos back to his form of last year [woeful], missed goal opportunities, apart from all that I like how we look. I'd even go as far as to say that this is the best we've looked at this stage of the season since we began. It won't take much to get us up to scratch - we're just missing a target man and need to bench Bertos.

I say target man because we put a lot of balls into the box but don't really have someone who can compete for them.

a target man isnt just a big bloke who is good in the air, Greenie had a brilliant game, he occupied two defenders all game, held the ball up and hardly gave it away. what we need is a direct nippy striker to run into the holes he creates.

tho at the end of the day if the sanchez header had fallen to brown and the brown blaze over the bar to sanchez we would have been two up game over.

Didn't see Greenie win one in the air all day- except off a throw in.

and while I'm here....

ARRRRRGH Siggie!

was having a great gamemartinb2011-10-30 20:41:48

Seemed to get out-jumped a lot getting his head to the ball from goal kicks?

I lost count of how many headers he won. He's not going to win them all (look at his build) but he does incredibly well considering.

I liked the referrees assistant flagging for offside from a throw in and the crowd going wild...

Yup - I think Greenie has made a great start to the seson, and tought he was very strong tonight. Along with Sanchez and Siggies first 35mins there was some very hard work out there. And that includes Daniel too.

Nicky Ward needs to find his first touch if he is tomake starting X1 (if that, is, we don't have 6 players out due to suspension)

Just going to make one bagging comment (hopefully first and last).  Siggie's penalty had it's genesis in Tim Brown giving the ball away around the middle of the field and then trotting back.  That was the most disappointing part of the game for me.

I thought the team did well with ten players on the pitch.  Nick Ward should try passing a bit more rather than line up for a shot and allow the defence to take the ball off him.
Other points of note:

1. Kewell is a c*nt - must be a special rule for him so that he dosen't receive any cards.
2. Thompson is a c*nt.  Otorahonga - birthplace of a f*cktard.
3. Rojas got owned today - by the YF (he isn't a c*nt but he's still a little judas pr!ck).

Salty dogs on Friday.  Hopefully back to winning ways.

If they're going to be consistent they should give him the week off for coaching. He also got the offside decision for Thompson's not-goal wrong.

I'm not so much disappointed at the performance as I am frustrated at it. I think that match sets the record for the most number of Yellow Fever fans with their hands on their heads after we fluffed chances across the whole game.

As someone has pointed out....we must be the unjammiest club in the A-League. Crap off season, thin squad, serious injuries, dumb suspensions and when we comepletely dominate sides we can't get the ferkin ball into the net..

The second half against Perf and then first half against Melb we have played some real nice football....and we get zero points out of either game. You could see Melbournes confidence rising as the game went on....if we had banged in a couple of those early chances they would have folded.

Pleased with the reception Rojas got....but boy is he a freakishly talented player. Comes on beats players and just about every cross is bang on the button. Pleased he's a kiwi coz he will do great things in an AW's shirt. He's still a C**t though. There was a nice touch when Rojas came on prematch and walked passed Rickie. Rickie shook his hand and then ruffled Rojas's hair.....when I saw him raise his hand I thought he was going to eye gouge the kid!!! Pity

We really need Ifill back....he would have a had a field day today coz Victory are a very ordinary side. Ifill in for Bertos(who's crosses were crap) and Killen up front and we would kick asrse in this comp!!!!

Yup, think the team is a good goalscoring forward and a good attacking wide player short of a very decent team, chequebook out for the striker and Ifill back on the wing and we are sweet

Actually *cough, cough* um, it's not just Brown's fault.

Errr, you see... well, *big deep breath*

I wore my new eychart t under my stripey today.

God I'm so sorry Ricki and the team.  I've let the team down, the fans down, my family, but most of all myself.

Sorry.

That's the issue, everyone (including Ricki) knows we need a striker, but the overlords are refusing to buy one.

And what was the deal with Red Badge not letting the yellow banner from the first game back into the stadium? Afraid we were going to use it as a weapom to murder Judas?

Well we can't sign any of the potential european ones as we have no spaces left for a foreign player.

I understood why we needed to bring a defender on when siggie got sent off but not sure why it was Alex smith.....Bertos would have been a better choice...did nothing, or Tim brown apart froma couple of fluffed chances strolled around getting rid of the ball almost as soon as he  got it...Time for Ricki to do away with his love children and give others the chance...... whatever others we have left of course

Linesman flagging for offside from that Victory throw-in. The very same linesman who ruled Archies goal offside when he was well onside. LOL.

He was just starting to get the hang of those little backheeled flicks too, give him another few months and he might get an assist...

This. I understood why we clapped them in the last game, because neither red card was deserved. However today, it was a clear red card, and in no way something we should be applauding.
Siggy was immense up until his two mistakes. He gives more than most on the pitch so maybe that's why his FANS were applauding him? Just a guess.

This completely. Was a stupid red card to give away, but Archie was going to score anyway. Prior to the incident Siggy was looking like the MOTM for me - he made a number of key intercepts and challenges.

Watched the game mid-way through the Australian Beer Festival and with the sound turned off, so my perception of events was probably even more skewed than normal. (Didn't need the sound on to be able to see the words "Judas, Judas" being mouthed though).

First half I thought we had plenty of chances, and even looked dominant. Victory didn't seem to be getting much change out of challenges and we looked to be hungrier throughout. But you just knew Thompson was going to get a chance like that at some point and make us pay. I swear he does the same thing to us every season.

In regards the incident where Greenacre hit the post and Daniel put it in illegallly, were there grounds for a penalty for Greenie being taken out? If so, that'd probably just cancel out Thompson's dodgy offside call. Regardless of how good or bad individual performances might have been, I liked the fact we still gave them a game being 2-0 down and down to 10 men. Right until the end I genuinely thought we had another goal in us.

The way things are going, I'm prepared for a season without the dizzying heights of the past couple of years. It appears we won't be getting any new signings so I wish the best from the squad we have. The strength of character of the players seems good and they do appear to be working for each other. Current form suggests we won't be crushing opponents by several goals, but if we can catch a break with injuries and they can stop playing poker with the refs and getting cards dealt out all the time, I reckon we'll trouble plenty of teams home and away (except Brisbane - they're class).

It's not that I don't wish we were top of the league but, given the pre-season ownership shambles and the current diffficulty in assembling a team with 22 fully functional legs, I'm unusually accepting and realistic about the way things are. That being the case, bring on the next game!

Ultimately the winner tonight, and the one that inebriates the loss, was Holgate Temptress Chocolate Porter. Unfortunately, in a cruel twist of irony, it's brewed in Melbourne. Damn them.

Our dizzying heights were two seasons ago.  Last season we did well to scrape through to the play-offs.

We are doing well considering the challenges that we are facing (and of our own doing), but other teams have improved so it will be a struggle for us this season.

Still - impossible is nothing.  And an Ifill-Greenie sandwich with a dressing of Sanchez could be a real hunger buster this season.

As much as commentators say it the daniel goal was a goal.  The rule is that the gk must have two hands on the ball, it doesnt matter if they have one hand in ful control, it has to be both.  ?Yet last season a victory player kicked the ball out from underneath matt ryans two hands and got a goal.  Not right at all.  i think this decision changed the whole outcome of the game.  Daniel gets that goal its 1-1 which means dura wouldnt have pushed up leaving the gaping hole in the defence that archie ran through and SigmUnd pulled him down.  The amin reason for losing isnt that though its our failure to convert.  As people have said we need a striker.  Killen would be very nice if we can get him.  Greeny does well but isnt they type of striker who plays as the lone man up front.  Very frustrating!
