Just an update on where we are at.

We are waiting for FFA to release the fixture so we know how many Home games we can get. If GCU stay which they will we will have 15 home games. One definitely to Christchurch and we will see if we move another - maybe a midweek game or a clash with the Stadium.  Mid May is targeted to commence the selling of memberships

.

Well I may be the only one, but that is awesome, another weekend down there will be tops. Can't wait to find out when the date is so we can start sorting that out.

Mean.

Na, so, so mean. Vodka bar and $50 hands of Blackjack at 530am, I'm quivering with excitement. That's right, I just used the term quivering.

Great, so you're keeping the prices the same as last year! That should bring the membership numbers back up....

ps Whereever that Microsoft Office sh*tML is coming from, please stop posting it. It breaks forums and the internet in general.

Whats wrong with having a game or two away?
Christchurch is an obvious choice becasue of the revenue.
And if say, Metallica play at Westpac then they'll move again.

I've already gone on record as saying that I'm fine with the ChCh game -but would prefer it during the summer school hols so I can feebly justify a family trip down there.

Less keen on another home away from home game but will wait and see what the choice is.

Really looking forward to the Chch match, well gutted I missed last season, plan to sort my sh*t out in advance so I can go.

Hope the second match is in Napier. Auckland shouldn't be trusted with a regular season match just yet, they should get a preseason though. If not Napier, maybe New Plymough, but preferably something accessible to Wellington and a larger regional population, and not rhyming with "Falmerrston North".

Tony any chance we could get the heads up for the CHCH game so then we can get the cheap flights to New Zealand's favorite South Island destination.

A midweek game away from Wellington sounds a rubbish idea. Even more difficult for the regular fans to get to.

Accessible to Wgtn?

New Plymuss and Napier would be the only two other than the city with the stadium whose name we dare not say.

Edit: If the objective is to increase revenue then Napier might be worth a shot. Otherwise I guess the venue will be further north. And further away from my budget (with the ChCH travel already accounted for).

Yeah I wasn't very clear - I was meaning Napier and NP would be preferably because of their proximity not that there are other proximal locations that can be considered. I mean, we COULD put a temporary stand at Whanganui's stadium, but then we'd have to play under the name of Wellington Poenix

I think he was implying that one game may need to be moved to a midweek game, or be moved to a different city.

When the draw comes out then you'll have plenty of time to organise flights.  The draw is due out soon, and the seasons doesn't start until august IIRC

Honestly, some of you guys are acting like babies. I'm just pleased we have a professional team to support - who cares if we play one game in Chch a season? Really, really not seeing the big deal here. Terry recently reported a $1.5m loss. How can you question this?

I'd rather it was mid-season rather at the end of the season like last time, though.

No playoff revenue.

I agree with everything you said though. Who cares if we ahve a game in chch. I'd rather the financial stability of the club than more home games. It might work both ways too.. I mean if we have too many games in Wel then some fans might turn away but if we have a 2-3 week gap in between wellington games then the next week is bound to be a big crowd.

Id rather TonyP give a consistent explanation as to why we're having games away tbh.

I agree.

I also think it's better for the Phoenix to work on filling up Westpac Stadium on a regular basis, than organising road trips.

They had Rueben Wiki at Hutt Park a few weeks back running skills sessions, and there were kids everywhere.
Do the players get out with kids/clubs to run skills sessions?

Visiting shopping malls and hospitals doesn't do a heck of a lot IMO (though it looks nice for a photo in the paper).

And I realise that there is no sponsorship deal with Vodafone, but sponsors getting involvement with promotions works for the Warriors and Wellington Lions.

I've been to Wellington Lions games with groups of people based on Vodafone promotions; get a drink before the game, trip to the game, ticket to the game. Trip back to the pub afterwards.
Maybe Sony/4Kings would be interested in running some along those lines.

There is a lot that can be done to promote the team within Wellington to get 10,000 regularly to each game, to avoid the losses. And pick up the rest with exhibition matches and finals revenues.

Maybe I should have applied to be on The Apprentice :P

Tim Brown and Leo Bertos attend trainings for the school teams that are named after them at their old school Wellington College. But yes, some good points made above.

I also think it's better for the Phoenix to work on filling up Westpac Stadium on a regular basis, than organising road trips.  I think attendance after season ones initial yay we have a football club, lets check it out has been very results driven so far. Word of mouth would have been the next biggest tool. I dont think taking two games away will adversely impact on this too greatly. The most impact this will have will be on season ticket holders- and even then, losing 100 (I doubt it would be more) season holders because of this is worth it for revenue generated from having an extra 10,000 attending (as in the Chch game).

They had Rueben Wiki at Hutt Park a few weeks back running skills sessions, and there were kids everywhere.
Do the players get out with kids/clubs to run skills sessions?  Do the odd thing here and there- Daniel has been to visit a few schools. Kids are generally viewed as key to getting their parents along, but I dont think crowd figures have jumped to greatly in days where we kids have gotten in free (not a 100 pc on this though).

Visiting shopping malls and hospitals doesn't do a heck of a lot IMO (though it looks nice for a photo in the paper).  Photo in the paper is advertising- the photo itself will do more for publicity than visiting the hospital.

And I realise that there is no sponsorship deal with Vodafone, but sponsors getting involvement with promotions works for the Warriors and Wellington Lions. Yeah, interesting point, it seems a lot of sponsors advertising is directed to those already attending the games- although I noticed they steered away from this somewhat last season. Good promotion with the 24/7 with the Phoenix 11 a couple of years ago- was a cool promotion- be interesting to see what the cut through was with this after the promotion. Also noted that many of the sponsors are reasonably stand-offish with their promotion. It could also be the nature of them though- not in your face like Vodafone.

I've been to Wellington Lions games with groups of people based on Vodafone promotions; get a drink before the game, trip to the game, ticket to the game. Trip back to the pub afterwards.
Maybe Sony/4Kings would be interested in running some along those lines. Could get a few more. These peeps are likely attending though.

There is a lot that can be done to promote the team within Wellington to get 10,000 regularly to each game, to avoid the losses. And pick up the rest with exhibition matches and finals revenues. Finals revenues- gotta get the FFA to hand over a decent chunk first. Exhibition matches- profitability is difficult- as you have to pay for the team to come over first- likely to have to share gate takings etc etc. As seen in the exhibition thread- its a fine line between likely having to pay too much for a team (the big fours)- to not actually getting interest in the game and losing moolah.

Personally- a good start to the season, that sees us in the top four from the get go is key. If I was looking at the draw, youd want a couple of reasonably easy games to start with for sure, if people see the Nix winning then youll get greater attendance from the get-go. When momentum picked up last season the numbers increased.

Kids free day usually one of our biggest attendances of the season.

Away game in ChCh is sh*te.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
