The Phoenix team to play Miramar will hopefully answer some questions around who is on trial with the club. Understand former QPR under-23 midfielder Josh Wallen could be one of the new faces as, crucially, he follows a Phoenix player on IG -the key to all future transfer gossip

Been with QPR U-23 but was loaned out to Chelmsford City

Just watched a few bits and pieces online.

Looks Tim Payne-ish / Alex Rodrigues-y styled player. Was playing DM in the game I saw.

Looks legit. He's in Hudson-Wihongi's Instagram story - well, his name is tagged anyway...

Damn, off-topic I know, but if I were an elite sportsperson I wouldn't have social media accounts open to the public ("official" ones for marketing purposes excepted). I would be creeped out if I knew that the broad masses were carefully examining my every post for clues.

It's not. The problem some people have is with "coaching" as a cover for under-the-table payments. Shamateurism.

How much angst is there really you think? - probably best in iyts own thread actually.

Also.  Might pay to be careful we don't unfairly malign players.  If we could talk in generalisations might be better as Piney mentioned one player and assumptions have been made about who that is that could be right or wrong.

Would be poor form to lay into someone who is not in this boat.

That is true, but if Piney's story is correct - it can only be one of two players Howieson or Payne.

Apologies to Howieson if is not him.

Didnt Howieson want to quit football at one stage? Rumours his better half wasn't happy in Welly too?

Apparently both turned it down. Have to respect their choice. Also, why is it wrong for a football player to earn money coaching?

Exactly. Kiwi strategy, and we lose Ridenton, and the guys, 'just as good', won't come on trial.

TBF though, did we ask Siggie to come on trial? Manny was an injury replacement iirc.

I mean I'd like to see either Howieson or Payne at the Nix. Are we billeting them with the Durantes or getting them an apartment?

He started a PT company in England before coming to Team Wellington. Second part....well I assume ACFC offered more money than TW could.

There was a time [I think under RH that we had overseas players here on trial, it seemed to be quite a regular thing.

Maceo Rigters was the Dutch guy, not sure that he ever trialled - I think he wanted way more than we were prepared to pay and then went to GC. Don't think that Stein trialled either, but could be wrong on that one.

Rigter's story was that a princely sum was named when he was in Europe but when he got here it had mysteriously decreased by up to 50%.

Didn't Rigters play a pre-season game in Dunedin before leaving?

I saw Rigters play in Dunedin against the Brisbane Roar, first ever game at Forsyth-Barr. We got hammered 6-1 as this was vintage Roarcelona. Rigters scored the goal IIRC.

IIRC, this would have been one of the only Phoenix appearances for Lucas Pantelis??

Wait, so other than Covert Agent, any other noise on Tratt?

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Tauranga, I think. Pretty sure that's where he had his injury, too

Boca game was also a trial of sorts for Toto - don't think he was confirmed until after.

He was really impressive in that game, he seemed to lose motivation and his good eating habits whilst at GC
