Different players are good in different leagues, and we know that some of the Asian leagues are notoriously volatile environments for players. I just don't know why you both think that he can't do the job as a second choice striker. He's a good age, and there only 9 players in the history of the league who have scored more goals than him. He's a good pick up

Opinion. You rate him I do not.

Phoenix coach Mark Rudan wanted Martins on a guest player contract and the club were willing to match FFA dollar for dollar to snare him.

I find that interesting as Guest contracts are outside the visa restrictions. That says to me we have plans for the 5th visa slot & we have given up hope that Krishna will get his citizenship before the January transfer window.

Sorry Leggy, watching him 156 times still doesn't entitle you to an opinion.

IMO, he's pants. We'd be offering him a chance to resurrect his career and handing out opportunities doesn't appear to be Rudan's thing

Depressing but back to Djite debate, this time however as our top striker

So this was said last week saying Rudan spoke to Oba and said he was keen etc:

Further to this from @VinceRugari, Mark Rudan confirmed to me tonight he’s in contact with Obafemi Martins, who he met in China last year.

“He’s a fantastic guy. He checks out really well. He wants to play. He knows the A-League. We’ll probably know more in the next 24 hours.”

And this was published today and by the sounds of this it was never a remote possibility and an intermediatry spoke to Oba:

Given that the Martins thing is dead in the water I'd be happy for Bruce Djite to come here. He's always struck me as a player who could be better than he has shown thus far, he certainly has some decent attributes. Maybe he needs someone to coach him into being the player he can be.

I'd rather give a Handy stand out a contract than bringing Djite in personally. Djite 5 years ago? No contest! But now? No thanks!

I know we can't rely on a Handy Prem player to be out 10+ goals per season striker, but I'd still prefer someone younger and hungrier than him.

Of course I'm not opposed to finding an Ifill or Greenie like player somewhere in the League 1 or thereabouts...

Rudy doesn't rate the Handy Prem though.

And there isn't really a great striking option in the Handy Prem anyway.

Djite is not who we should be going for.. It would be a panicked signing. Huge underachiever at United, what makes us think Rudan will change him into a better player?

Some of the better Handy attackers (some former)

Tade (now pro)

de Jong

Tavano

David Browne

Martin Bueno

and probably less so: Mata, Tieku, Linderboom (now pro) Coughlan, Cain, Nakamura and Kowal

De Jong isn't really a classical forward, plus he'll come back to train with the team, and possibly be added to the squad anyway, so wasn't including him in my comment anyway. The rest are basically all imports, and you'd think if you're having to go import there, you'd be looking outside the Handy Prem at an instinctive level.

Seen that suggested on Twitter but get the feeling it might be a joke about City signing ex Adelaide players rather than a real rumour tbh

Tavano is no longer an import as he has got his Kiwi Citizenship, but doubt he'd leave ACFC.

We don't need a forward - we need a goal scorer. And a boss DM. And a few other bits & pieces.

What about trying to get in Elliott Collier or Myer Bevan on loan, until say January 2019?

Either of them could be a useful squad option.

Bevan especially has hardly played the last 12 months - so still fresh.

Even Collier has had little playing time since leaving Chicago for Indy Eleven.

Nix loaned out Brockie to Toronto a few years ago. So a deal effectively in reverse, could be possible.

Sure neither will score 10+ goals but improves the squad depth, and Collier in particular could be a asset off the bench.

I know his name hasn't been mentioned recently, but apparantly Danny Choi has got his Aus citizenship and signed for a club in Portugal's fourth division

More like, the players Rudy wants from the Handy Prem think they're too good for the Phoenix / have a better lifestyle where they are.

Collier’s been really poor at both clubs, wouldn’t want to settle for him even on the bench no disrespect. Bevan would be a cool bench option though, definitely not as a starter however

Djite would be a great squaddie. Be more than happy with him on the bench behind a marquee. Too bad we can't compete with the mighty  Yuan.
