Thing is, if Rossi was wanted by Sydney, the FFA would have already written the cheque out but because those Friggibng New Zealanders are trying to save their own arse and get in someone half decent, we won't have the money. However a Bullett dodged too. J.E-T would be a good fit for us. Although lazyish, for our style of play he would be a good fit for the crossing.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

He's incredibly lazy on AND off the pitch, shark attitude (been through 9 clubs in his 10 year pro career) and has a fairly average goal scoring record. Yeah he has good feet and monster shot, but if clubs with millions of pounds can't make a player out of him, he's everything we should be avoiding.

Injuries and overhyped. Ruptured his ACL and was out for 182 days.

Is this Babalj? If so, 182 days isn't bad considering an ACL injury usually takes 6-9 months to heal. 182 days is just over 6 months.

Given his age, pedigree and ability (remember him fondly at MCY) I'd bring him over in a flash.  He's just the type of player we need IMHO.

Apologies if it has already been discussed on here but it appears Djite turned down Adelaide so would be highly unlikely he'd come here (if we ever wanted him):

Maybe he is worried about global warming and Adelaide summer can be brutal.

On the other hand, Wellington summer...

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Here's an idea...

End Kopa's loan immediately. Sign Harris on a short term contract and play him as a 9, which we need. In the meantime, search for another DM to come in during the January transfer window.

If Harris does well, sign him full time when Krishna gets residency.

Part of this based on the idea that marquees should we sign one do not count against the quota right.

Your right... but he wants to go pro and this is a chance he may never get again. How much does he back himself?

Or he could go on to have a quality education, and still have a chance to turn pro after that if he wants.

And in the past I have advocated this route instead as to avoid a case like Joel Stevens. But what is his financial position like, are his parents wealthy, could he afford to go to uni here and stay at the NIX longer in hope of getting a contract whilst still getting a degree.

Each case is unique. This kid clearly has talent, and by many accounts is more of a stand out than Singh - throwing it out there as an idea, nothing more.

Whose accounts are these? Not trying to be an asshole here, I just haven't seen/heard people say this.

Definitely far more chat about Singh as he came through the academy than there's ever been about Harris

I haven't seen anyone say Harris is better than Singh, just that they haven't seen the kinda x-factor Harris has since they watched Singh.

Eg

I've read it on the forums before... whether true or not I don't know as it would be based on players either in the squad making comments or someone who has watched them train due to him not being allowed to play.

I must say I've seen limited footage of Harris, but the few highlights I did catch impressed me a lot!

This being said, it sounds like the kid has made up his mind, and so have the Nix according to Dome's comments in the press release that came out when Harris said he was going to the States.

you blocked me then? :-)

TBF while I have raved about Harris I haven't really made any comparisons between him and Singh

All I would say is that I'm more excited by Harris than I was by Singh

Nothing says this kid should be signed.

How hard is it to give an opinion on a player, beyond "I don't think he's good enough"? No rationale, no nothing, and when challenged you immediately move to insult the person who challenges you.

Wow - that's great for the lad.

Really wish we'd sign him as I thought he was better than Fenton (whom I don't mind btw).

I wonder if Rudan and or Tratt himself thought it best for him to stay put in Aussie to have family support etc. Don't want to start speculating again - but if he's signed for SFC his mind is definitely on being a pro footballer!

makes the most sense, being in Sydney he's close to family I assume, he'll do well there hopefully just not against us.

Rudan on not signing Tratt, from the Mandi signing announcement (emphasis mine).

I made the decision in Sydney. Jacob was in for a long time and wasn’t an easy one for me. I’ve got a personal connection, a relationship with the player, having coached him and been there for him off the field as well, but none of my decisions are based on emotion, they’re based purely on what’s best for this football club and we came to the conclusion that he didn’t do enough, which was disappointing and was hard for me, because i’ve got that connection with the guy.

It’s the hardest thing for a coach, telling someone that it’s just not going to happen. He was emotional but so was I. There may be this thing with the way you perceive me, but I care for my players, they’re human beings, and we’ve got to show that side of us as well. You probably don't see that behind the scenes.

I’ll still stay in touch with him, just to make sure he’s going okay.

anyone whom was very comfortable about not signing a number nine because there was always money in the kitty to buy a gun in January want to stand up like a man or woman and say they were wrong yet?

If you want me to trawl through the threads and name and shame I will but nows your opportunity to have some self respect

What would the point of that be? Anyway it's obvious the club was trying. As Ernie said the guys who are proven goal scorers are expensive.

Dont seem to recall there were many people posting they were happy we hadnt been able to sign a proven goal scorer. Still waiting for someone to enlighten us all just how we are meant to sign some of these players when they dont FKN want to come here.

We do have a Number Nine.  His name is Louis Fenton but for some reason he is masquerading as a Right Back. Actually isn’t it possible to get a Number Nine now, such as Bruce Djite if he isn’t playing for another team?

Great clarification, thanks Andrew V!

Well, I personally believe Rudan's got this one wrong.  I think Tratt would have been perfect, given our style of play and his ability to both defend and bomb forward.  Basically, he's a better version of Fenton...

This being said, I think Fenton is doing well given the circumstances - and if he doesn't get injured and returns to peak physical form, he can be valuable.

But recruiting a better RB (Franjic, Tratt etc) would have been the right move in the off-season for me.
