All our imports that we got this year were on one year deals.

That's right, its the nature of the beast, professional sports people of this kind wouldn't be put off. In basketball for instance, most of the imports in our NZBL and our own top players might have 2 or 3 contracts in different places around the world. Prospects would be more concerned about whether or not they got paid than how long the contract is for.

nothing wrong with a two year contract for an import, if you have done your research and hired quality

I think he is past his use by date now for us.

The point is only being able to offer two years isn't going to affect our ability to attract talent.

That strategy hasn't been sucessfull recently with our imports

Plenty of players would prefer a two year contarct to one if they were up rooting themselves and talking their families half way around the world. For the right player you would also want them signed for two as like any contract it works both ways

Believe that was the reason why Coveny didn't even cross the ditch to join the knights. They offered one, he wanted two

Plus he took the City offer last time cuz of his building business and family being in Melbourne.

Possibly, but he did a pretty good job of being a one club man until he took a final bump to his pension playing for the Nix.

Strange. Ridenton would be classed as an import for Australian clubs

He's a good young player and likely rated higher by other A-League fans/clubs than fans of his own team.

By some fans of his own team. There are some of us who do rate him but feel we are a minority.

Regardless of any fans' opinion, a 22 year old kiwi who was more than a first team regular should definitely be retained

The fact that he has options is good for him and kiwi football

If he moves, you can guarantee the people that slated him will all of a sudden think he's the best thing since sliced bread.

heard the opposite, IE he wanted to re sign with the Nix but the $$$ offered were underwhelming

That's what Dome intermated on the pod, that they want Ridenton to stay but feel he's replaceable and they're comfortable if he wants to leave.

as much as I think it is crazy we are losing a 22 year old kiwi player to an a league team whom would class him as an import, he is no Rojas or even a Judas, so I am ok if he was really seeking overs

If he got it, good on him

This is the more believable of the opposing rumours.

I don't think he is that much better than other options within NZ, so not too worried. Wish him well. It opens up a spot for another kiwi.

Yet 2 different coaches chose to give him consistent game time before others. There must be something there that the many people dont see.

22 and triple digit is fair for a developing player?

He is a work in progress. His passing let him down at critical times, sometimes he just sprayed the ball anywhere and when he got in front of goal he really had no idea how to finish.

He was benched for the last game and he was not missed.

I'd be in favour of keeping him, but not breaking the bank over him. So basically not surprising news.

Dont really think he sprayed it any worse than some of the other players. Our passing accuracy has never been one of our best features and at times you would swear they have never trained together.Just dont get why he seems to be singled out before others.Reckon most wont realise how useful he was until he has gone

I would be disappointed if he was to go, he is at a cross roads, needs more time to develop and hone his skills, at least here he is with players he knows rather starting team relationships again at this point.

Getting him out of his comfort zone might be what takes him to the next level... everything is an unknown really.

A better question, who would you replace him with, Payne, Musa, Howieson, Rufer?

Speaking of young players, any news on McGarry in Portugal?

Gotta be Payne. Few years older, but still young and I think he could turn into a really solid performer at A-League level. Proper defensive midfielder too, felt like neither Ridenton nor Paracki were naturally defensive enough, both played more like central midfielders. Would love to have both Ridenton and Payne though

Iniesta could be a handy addition to the squad next year..... I reckon we could probably find a spot for him if Ridenton goes to the Ernie and the Jets. Says he wants a relaxed laid-back lifestyle. I think he'd like Wellington (on a good day).

Need a striker with Klaud looking like he's on his way out... scored some cracking headers, but ultimately not up to standard.

He's gone to China and he's definitely not good enough.
