Don't worry, there's still the chance for a heap of new signings today.

New episode out now (stop nagging me, Rori!)

In a seemingly uneventful week, both NZF and FFA ended up having major developments. FFA congress reform is happenings, we discuss what this means for the Nix and the A-League. Back home, Pip Muir delivers her report into NZF, making 22 recommendations for NZF.

Can a Friday night get any more exciting? Plus news of a clandestine game of football in Melbourne going our way. The world has turned upside down.

excellent pod guys. I think you covered the key aspects of each event really well. I'm still not sure that its plain sailing for the nix with the alternative A league, but thats coz I can't believe anything like this would go our way.

Whats the catch 22 the title is referring to?

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

A bit behind on listening at the moment, but Rudan told Piney that the club did make enquiries about Essien before going after Martins.

IIRC, their chat was on the day the Martins rumours came out.

Fielding a call from an agent and looking at signing a player are very different things.

Seems to me it was barely entertained beyond that call given the club was telling the NZ media "we aren't signing him" while an agent was busy in Aussie telling everyone he could for the next few days that they were in "talks" and the "Nix are considering signing him".

There is also the angle that Fox would be a part funder, so clubs have to contact them about these players. But Fox is also a news agent so this stuff leaks.

Same problem with the FFA media team - things get sent to the FFA for approval, and people in their separate media branch overhear them and report them as rumours. Think Sydney FC got stung by this a couple of seasons back.

Or the FFA accidentally publish a drafted news release like happened with us and WeeMac.

From memory, Rudan had talked to people at Chelsea & a couple of other places about Essien, & got positive feedback about his character, but couldn't nail down much about his current fitness. Sounded like he'd done a bit of due diligence after the approach.

Certainly sounded like more than the flat denial the club gave - although the timing of the rumour/announcement might have been after they'd decided to move on.

Yes, I saw maybe the same interview, and Rudan certainly said there was active pursual as you say.

Frostie, Cam and Dave cast their eye over all ten A-League clubs ahead of the start of the new season, discuss which teams have strengthened their playing squads, who is most likely to make the playoffs, and some sure to be terrible predictions about where the Nix will finish.

So we beat Victory pre-season and therefore we've won the League already?

Just listened to Catch-22 & Out of Date in last couple of days. Both really good listening & informative. Great work guys.

Notwithstanding the subsequent signings of Burgess, Mandi, & Elliott, my 5 signings would have been:

- Starting Right back (hopefully Tratt)

- Right back squaddie (I like Fenton, but would rather see him further up the pitch)

- A really, really good number 9 (probably too late now, but I look forward to him being signed at Krishmas, once Roy's a Kiwi)

- A local no 9 (if this is a 'Plan B' then we need cover). You had my hopes up when you announced Gameiro had left Roar, then dashed them later. Very Nix-like of you

- Another midfielder. (already done).

I also tip the Nix for 1st. Then again, I got relegated 3 times in RR's tipping comp last season, largely due to picking the Nix to win every week.

He's suppose to be on this week, but looks like a late change means he'll miss it

We did have someone booked for this week, unfortunately they were double booked so we will move them to next week

Yeah, sorry my bad.  I was even looking at the Spanish Flag beside the name and still said French.  Much parenting, little sleep, talking hard

The A-League season is finally upon us, and the Nix are taking on Ernie and the Jets. We preview the game, talk about who we think the 11 players to line up for the Nix will be, and discuss the best way to extract three points from the start of the season.

With our one competent sound person not having been around for three weeks I think you can safely assume the rest of us have been slowly breaking everything. It's not you.

It gets a lot better after about 3 minutes. Dave still sounds a bit like he's phoned it in though. Sorry!

They're here already - they both played on Sunday - Rudan said they are eligible, we only have his word for it at the moment.
