New episode of your favourite previously award-winning podcast, out now!

The pod discuss the latest preseason fixtures for the Nix, discuss the Essein rumours, and dissect the new ISPS Handa Prem draw for the upcoming season.

Technical issues (ie. Patrick messed up) mean this episode is a little late to be released. Sorry.

how can you be previously award winning? You either are or your not, the fact you didn't win this year doesn't mean you're not an award winning podcast!

Wish we could say it the same way for the 'finals-making Phoenix'

wasn't the KCU game only about 2-0? you made it sound like it was 6-0? thought it was close

The Wests keeper is Andrew Withers

from what I heard about the KCU game it could easily have been 6-0 if it hadn't been for McPeake in the Central League goal

When only one member of the pod was at the game it's hard to call each other out on our potentially outreagous claims

Shantelle Smith won Player of the Match in the KS Cup

Yoo could have done his military service by playing for Sangju Sangmu in the Korean League, had he spent at least 6 months at another K-League club immediately prior to being drafted. (according to Wikipedia, he was playing in Russia). Wikipedia says he joined Gimpo Citizen for his public (military) service. Gimpo play in the fourth tier of Korean football, in an amateur league.

I can see the new Podcast "de Jong" with the description but there does not seem to be an audio file. Is it just me or are there issues?

I briefly saw two copies of 'Late', both marked as 'unlistened' (but I'd already listened to that one). The duplicate has now disappeared, but not sure if the date on the remaining copy is from the original or the copy.

Can't see a podcast called 'de Jong' anywhere, not even here: https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts

SKY TV were not the roadblock for live streaming - that was a NZF call (unless the game clashed with a broadcast game)

Source?

It's usually the content buyers that stop other avenues so I'd be really interested to see NZF's reasoning if they were the only ones saying no.

A Sky-shaped roadblock put in place by NZF?

horses mouth - wasn't in the contract.

There were some other things in the contract about highlights not being played before the SKY package (which dosn't exist this season)

When you say no Sky package, will Sky not be doing any highlights?

correct SKY are not sending camera's to each game this year so there will be no SKY highlight package (other than of the broadcast game) - which has made NZF had to rethink this streaming thing - kind of a good result.

Having both would have been better but this is a decent alternative.

I think everyone would agree NZF bear a lot of blame for agreeing to the deal regardless.

But there were and still are a lot of first hand stories of people being advised what they could and couldn't do so no offence but in the complete absence of any one wanting to make an official on the record statement about things your info is worth exactly the same as the  info from numerous outfits and individuals that tried to stream the games and were advised they couldn't because of the Sky deal.

In the absence of hard evidence one horse will always be outweighed by many horses.

Yes they are - because NZF came back to SKY after running a tender process (SKY didn't bid) and not a single one of the other companies even came close to what SKY's cost was (SKY was significantly lower)

Yes it's not an apples vs apples comparison because the tender process was focusing on getting all games streamed - however NZF for whatever reason decided to come back to SKY.

If you think SKY is holding NZF ransom, then ok - but i think there is much more to it than that.

yes i'm not questioning that - However I have tried to find out in these circumstances if anyone was approached by someone from SKY telling them they couldn't and under what parameters or if it was someone from NZF.

We know NZF has history with this kind of thing after they said Westpac Stadium wouldn't allow Peru fans to bring in instruments for Westpac to turn around and say they were fine with it but NZF said no.

What I don't know is if there was some kind of contract term which said something like: If NZF wish for clubs to live stream their non-broadcast games then SKY TV reserve the right to withdraw the one camera highlights at each game.  And since that isn't happening this season NZF are now looking at streaming.  Honestly that's just conjecture, unless we are talking to a horse who has seen the contract (and any amendments) no-one really knows who is telling who the truth.

I'll wait to see if Southern, Canterbury, Hawkes Bay and Tasman get some more games than they are right now.

Because otherwise Southern are paying $25k for footage of one game with them playing while Waitakere, Auckland and Suburbs are paying between $4k and $5k per game.

NZ Football taking the piss a bit there.

Interesting... as I am pretty sure there was one of the best games in the history of the Stirling Sports/ ISPS Handa Prem (or whatever it is called this year) was streamed by a one of the YF moderators (sorry hate the term elite)… soon after that got a cease and desist from Sky lawyers not NZF saying it breaches the contract (more than happy to be proven wrong on this tho)

Edit: spelling

yes aware of that happening - but (and I have tried to find out) I don't know if the legal letter/approach was from NZF or SKY.  And if it was from SKY was it because there was a broadcast game at the same time (I can't remember).

my understanding is that it was from Sky (the cease and desist letter), but it related to the posting of the game on You tube after it had been streamed live

Although Sky did issue a fine to Team Wellington for live streaming (despite apparently giving them the OK) although I understand that was rescinded

There was no other broadcast game on at the same time (the other semi final was the day before)

Also believe that Sky had agreed, albeit reluctantly, to broadcast the game from Davey F but TW were unable to get a resource consent to build the camera platform in time for the game

interesting - that was season one of the broadcast deal from memory?

I'm torn because obviously SKY is my employer and I have gone to some lengths to get as much info as I can about this deal - I had an hour phone call with someone very close to this whole thing the other day - but at the same time as a football fan I want the best for the competition and those two things don't always align.
