Question about women footballers in regards to mat leave. Surely it wouldn't work,  I mean if your striker wound up pregnant then before birth they would have to stop playing (as surely it's not legal to force them to play), and then they have to keep that job open for 12 months and  the mother is allowed the job back. Who would feasibly be not match fit, would they have to keep employing them?  What if their contract ends half way through mat leave? Would it be illegal to not renew?

It really seems like mat\pat leave just wouldn't work for pro athletes in a contract.

But I could be wrong.

That is an outstanding question.  I work in payroll and I have no idea how that would work, but I might just investigate and find out

I would think this would be discussed as part of the contract signing. Are you looking to have children? If so, here is the length of contract we will offer.

Yeah thats a good point.  Wonder if they would be considered contractors rather than employees.  Time to have an indepth read of the Holidays Act I think.

Of course, rules would be different in Aus to NZ, and we don't have any professional women footballers playing in NZ, but be interesting to investigate none-the-less

I would think the Silver Ferns would be a good indicator of that but then again, they are not necessarily full time all year with the same organisation. I also don't think Netball NZ contracts players and it's all done at franchise level for x amount of months.

You will all disagree, but Mitch Nichols, while being an absolute cod is actually a pretty decent player, he can be inconsistent but he can be fantastic.

Why are you asking this question Katie?

Isn't that illegal?  And then there are surprise babies and they could hardly punish you for being wrong.

I'm guessing that's a reference I don't understand.  But it was mentioned on the pod and it drove me nuts the whole walk home as I have no idea how mat\pat leave would work for pro athletes in club contracts.

Ernie obviously looking to rort the A League by playing 12 players at a time.

"... get our formation right, and I've changd it a little bit... so we can go from a 4 - 4 - 3 to a 3 - 4 - 3 easily..."

Wait... 4 - 4 - 3?

Genius!

Maybe he's gonna pull the goalie and go ALL OUT attack...?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

That is quite probably, outside of people trolling in the Arsenal thread, the best commentary I've ever seen from people who haven't seen what they're commenting on - in particular the corrections of various "facts". Perhaps you could do a five minute commentary on a game somewhere in the world based solely on twitter hashtags every week? It's class!

Keep it up fellas!

Has he sat down with Siggy to map his transition to life after playing football? Does he have any concrete plans?

On a mire serious note: Does he think the A League would benefit from another attempt of having an Auckland team in the competition?

Realistically how does he see a back 3 lining up this year and also who are the best CB options on the team if he and or Siggy get injured.

Out of the players under 30 who does he think would be a good long term captain once he retires.

If he could trade Siggy for one other centre back in the league who and why (No bull cop out I wouldn't trade Siggy for the world, Siggy is gone you have to pick someone, accept it)

In preseason who is doing the best goal celebrations and can we request more extravagant team ones during the season??

He's stranded on Matiu Somes Island for a week, he's with three people and three things; who would he choose to have with what:

          1)  A Huawei Ascend P7 (including it's awesome noise-cancelling headphones, great to block out noise)

          2)  A pallet of Carlsberg Green (and it's winter, so it's cold)

          3)  A T.A.R.D.I.S. (why don't Dr Who sponsor the become a corporate partner of Nix?)

          A)  Manny Muscat

          B)  Ernie Merrick

          C)  Benjamin Sigmund

And why?

Interview tip - always save the question most likely to annoy the subject to last.

That way, if they storm out, you still have a good interview.

Questions for Andrew Durante:

Footballers have to do many non-football things for their job; e.g. talk to media, meet sponsors, etc.

Which non-football things do you like, and hate, the most - and why?

Which opposition crouds are you impressed by or afraid of?

As a long-term NZ resident and All White, do you agree with the statement "New Zealanders are more intelligent and less racist than Australians"?

Which NZ football ground made you most question whether this whole football thing was really worthwhile?

Tell us about Shortland St - were you happy with it?
