how close did NZ football come to playing you in the all whites even though they knew you were ineligible?

Who is one player who has been at the club, that you would most want to bring back? ( if their were in their prime) and why?

Daniel or Brown or Ifill although Plodder and O'Dor are tempting.

I heard you are very important on and off the field for the team and the coach.

* Why do you think are so popular amongst other players?

* How do you help new players to get settled?

* What's is your personal goal you want to accomplish this season?

* Did the "Lia, Lia, Lia!" chant on weekend made you

A: Nervous, because nobody ever chanted for me.

B: More motivated to show everyone it was skill an not an accident.

C: What chant? I was the whole game in my goal scoring zone.

What do you make of the consistent talk regarding the future of the Nix. Is it something you worry about.

Talk us through the first couple of months of the Phoenix. How'd you end up here? What was the vibe as the club started to be out together?

So the podcast was being recorded as the news was released?

Oh snap I thought it was recorded mid week.

Probably too late to ask for you guys to include an explanation on why its so hard for a NZ team to play in an Aus league because of different FIFA confederations.

I genuinely dont get why there would be a benefit to the sport in any way shape or form to do that.

Yeah it was. And we were all so shocked that we didn't do a very good job of talking about it.

We're thinking of recording another pod later this week to just cover off this license stuff.

You all did your best under the circumstances - well done.

Another pod would be good, the issue kinda almost maybe nearly justifies it too (jokes).

I'm sure we can get someone from the FFA, NZF, OFC, and of course the Nix to come on (again - jokes).

But in all seriousness - the fans are arguably the biggest stakeholders, it's important our views are heard, as are those of others (no jokes).

I think its nothing to do with the AFC, Dome said that FIFA and the AFC had told the FFA that 8-10 years is fine. Its all based on commercial considerations.

New podcast episode out now!

Vinnie Lia joins the podcast after his heroics over in Perth. We chat with him about the win over the Roar, and the upcoming game against the Victory. We learn about the Phoenix license news live on air, and get to pick ourselves back up again by celebrating the U17's beating Paraguay.

Good pod, was quite nice to be able to listen to amongst the whole sky falling down right now. I would have liked to have heard more anecdotes from Vinie about the formative moments of the club. Maybe in a future pod.

Good pod lads. Thought Vinnie came across really well and I thought you all dealt with the breaking news with dignity and grace - well,  more than I could muster anyway.   Must be a good time to get Domey on about now lol.

We've put the request for Domey in. We wanted to wait until something firm happened in the licensing issue because getting him on when it was all just speculation wouldn't have been as good.

Definitely agree. I've had the idea  of creating either a short documentary or writing about the history of the Phoenix niggling away at me for the past year or so, and the formative years would be a huge part of that. Might be able to make it into "A Complete History of the Phoenix" soon though...

It was gut wrenching.

When Vinnie arrived morale was sky high. I threw him a high five and we were all smiling and joking and laughing before we started recording. We were all so upbeat...

... then the news came through. Man. It was like we'd been hit by a bus.

P.S. - thanks for your comments. I can't speak for the other guys, but the last 24 hours have been a nightmare for me. The fact that the pod put a smile on even one of your faces makes me happy. Being made happy is worth the world to me right now. Thank you.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Brandon, IMHO the thing about you that has come through on the podcasts but even moreso over the past 36 odd hours (via twitter et al) is that you're deeply sensitive, insightful and wear your heart and passion on your sleeve.  Please don't ever lose that - those qualities are remarkable and for what its worth, you have my utmost admiration and respect.

I've spent so much time raging in the other thread I realized I forgot to comment here.

I was really impressed with how you all composed yourselves when you discovered the news. I couldn't compose myself properly when my boss asked me about its 12 hours later, so how you guys pulled it off I have no idea.

Seriously I am looking forward to hearing your takes on the whole ordeal later this week, but you guys are seriously great for pulling that off.

The real shock of it hadn't really kicked in as we were recording, that came afterwards once we packed the mics away.

I did notice a few strained voices. Plus there was a period of silence at one point that was gut wrenching to hear. You all seemed in shock, so it was impressive you managed to string coherent sentences together. I was just staring into space for 24 hours, ignoring everything around me.
