Why is the crowd going to be probably 10 times more than at Kiiwtea to watch a product that isnt that much better if at all?

Quality is far too subjective and a basic rule of internet forums is that if someone has a different opinion on a subjective matter, you will never ever convince them to change their mind, no matter how hard you try (people obviously do still try).

Anyway to answer your question, its all about marketing and branding. Simple.

Without going into the obvious differences in marketing budgets, there are little things that the NZFC could fix up. For example, I'm on the fence about supporting Team Wellington, however I'm a sh*t load more interested this year because I have heard of some of the players. For fans, being able to relate to players is key for support but the player listing on the NZFC websites is absolutely shocking. A nicely laid out list with up-to-date photos and bios of the players is incredibly cheap and easy to do, and would make a huge difference to my engagement with the team.

Kiwitea Street can only hold just over 3k, but it would be good to see them sell out for most games. I bet they could do this if they did some decent advertising.

Side Question: Anyone heading down for the O-League game? Study means I have to make a choice between the two games, and because the Phoenix are a once-off I'm going to that instead, even though I would be breaking the no1 rule as a City supporter. It would be good to get 3k down there as the prize money of CWC is shared among the NZFC teams.
Some backward supporters.  I'm plenty of other ACFC fans support the nix

Believe it or not, I love our knitting circle. They might be sincere in what they say, but its always a good laugh listening to them. I'd stand up with them, but the age difference will make me stand out like a sore thumb.

And they dont always blast the Nix, they do have other chants for the other 10% of the game.

Chris, I support ACFC and the Nix, but the reason I don't get involved in active ACFC fandom is precisely because of the knitting circlers. Some people are put off organised football fandom precisely because of the exclusionary attitudes of some of the "super-fans", and the Knitters might want to consider that low numbers at ASBPrem matches might be partly their own doing rather than the machinations of that awful A-League. (They must have been so pissed off that Gareth, Rob and the rest of the Nix 9 game along.)

And no, as one of them suggested to me, I'm not going to go and support WUFC instead, because I'm neither a bogan nor a P addict and anyway Whenuapai is too far by bicycle.

PAX obviously doesn't equal actual sales.
not sure how big of a walk up crowd Eden park would get.  At least the weather is looking good.

I think the fact that people know it won't sell out is a factor in pre-sales.  They know they can just turn up and get a good seat.

Weather forecast is pretty good.  I predict 17K.

This would be a good day of football, City at 2 then trip across town for Nix at 5. May well be the option for me.
Also - agree that walk up crowd will be decent as predicted by a few already

I was a Central United fan, I was  Kingz fan, I was a Knights fan (sort of) and now I am a Phoenix fan.

It's been a while since I was at Kiwitea Street (for an ACFC game it was). One thing that's different, in my opinion, is that sections of the ACFC crowd seem (to me) to regard each other as "them"... as opposed to "us". Even with the delineation between the Yellow fever section and the rest of the RoF crowd (standing vs. sitting) it all seems as if Nix fans regard it as one big "us".

I think factionalism within a supporter base (or call it cliques, or elitistism)  is often (but not always) a negative influence that can alienate new fans and prevent them coming back.

Chants like "Where were you when we were sh*t?" for example...

I understand the herd mind, the "we're tight", "I belong", and the "I have mana because I was here through thick and thin" aspects of what is behind this. However the negative aspect of this sort of chant is dividing a united "us" of the team's supporters into a "them and us" where "we" are better than "them" because we have been here longer/are more loyal/know more/have an original shirt etc.

To me that's counter-productive. Surely all clubs, all teams, in all sports, want MORE people to become fans and come along and support the team?

I always felt like an outsider on the inside at Kiwitea Street. Initially because I wasn't of Euro/Balkans extraction. Later because I supported the Kingz prominently, and later still because I was living in Auckland and expressed support for the Nix. Even when I was going every week, and had good friends in the heart of the club I still felt like I was in a sub-group, and that the whole thing was not a collective "us". In the end it left me cold, and I stopped going.

On Fran Wilde Walk, before and after a Nix game, All I ever feel is a huge sense of "we - all together - are here to support the team" regardless of which bay we sit in. Once inside the ground there is a SMALL amount of them and us between the Yellow Fever zone and the Halfway bays, but it is minimal.

If we had a Yellow Fever AND a North End Ultras (or whatever) and there was some friendly good natured rivalry, and chants back and forth between the two groups, that COULD be a good thing. It can work, and has elsewhere... but for now having moved to Wellington 2 1/2 years ago the united sense of ALL of the Nix fans is quite noticeably. Starkly so.

A bit of tv coverage, even if its only highlights on the news, would go a long way to getting more people to NZFC games...

...and FFS this ACFC vs Nix handbag fight is just stupid. Football is a minority sport in NZ but because it is also the biggest sport on the planet (not to mention the best) the potential for growth is huge, but if the fans bicker and squabble it and it keeps people away its not helping at all. As far as I'm concerned going to any football match in NZ helps the game, and Phoenix games are the ones that get media coverage so if they get more support sponsors and casual sports fans will be more willing to back them and by extension NZ football as a whole. And if ACFC do well at the CWC then the same thing can be said for them but the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Perhaps this hasn't occured to some people but maybe some folks will go to the Nix at Eden Park and really enjoy live football and then start going to ACFC games?

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

will PAX be the official number they use for attaendance figures, or is that based on how many barcodes are bleeped on the way in??

I am embarrassed. 6500 sold tickets 3 days out from the game. It's no wonder we get no games in Auckland and don't have a professional team here. Come on you bunch of jumped up Jafas, get down and support the nix.
Word on the street is if it isn't a very good crowd it will be the last time the nix in Auckland. Will be going down south instead, don't blame them personally.

Yeah, more punters would be good, but don't panic... 6,500 was announced by the mainstream media (Radio Sport story, I think) this morning. That means it was probably the figure a day or so ago. That means it's higher than that now with 1000 odd grab one sales in a day etc.

The PAX numbers are up above 11,000 - true that doesn't necessarily means 11,000 sales, but it probably means more than 6,500 too.

But talk more people into going to the game.

The weather is mint, the pubs are sorted, the trains are sorted.

It's gonna be a good night...

Getting threatened on this very forum if you turn up to an ACFC game also doesn't exactly help the image of the competition (or at least the team) either.
